21.01.2022 On the 17th and 18th of October Yongergnow hosted the inaugural ‘Malleefowl Muster’ put on by the WA Malleefowl Recovery group. WHAT A DAY!!! So many speakers with a world of knowledge in their fields. 17.01.2022 Last week one of our staff members, Stevi, ventured up to Mt Gibson to join the National Malleefowl recovery team in carrying out their annual monitoring of Malleefowl mounds. Of over 300 mounds monitored we found 15 that were active- meaning they showed evidence of being in current use as an egg incubator. Numbers were similar to those of last years which is a positive result for the population. Malleefowl have been described as one of the world’s hardest working birds, spending up to 300 days a year digging and maintaining their nest mound with their large and powerful feet. Nest mounds can reach dimensions of over 1 metre high and 4 metres wide! 01.01.2022 POSITION VACANT Acting Centre Manager (Maternity Leave Position) Starting mid-January 2021 39 hours per fortnight (3 days at 6.5 hours per week)... An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and highly dynamic person to lead the team at the Yongergnow-Ongerup Community Resource Centre (CRC) & Yongergnow Australian Malleefowl Centre. The primary role of this position is to manage the Ongerup CRC & Yongergnow Centre and report to the management committees. The successful applicant will possess highly developed computing skills in word processing and desktop publishing, excellent office and human resource management skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Duties will include (but not limited to) implementation of current and future action plans, adherence to current and future government funding contracts, grant writing, and the supervision and training of staff. Compensation starts at a base rate of $27.74 per hour but may be adjusted to reflect qualifications and/or experience.
