24.01.2022 Pet’s get sunburnt too! As the Riverina warms up for another scorcher of a summer it’s important to keep your pets sunsafe too. This can mean providing ample shade, avoiding walking your pet in the high UV times and applying pet-safe sunscreen. We’d love to see how our owners are keeping their pets sunsafe. Share your photos in the comments for your chance to win a pet-safe sunscreen stick! Winners will be announced Friday

17.01.2022 This little guy was found at Owen Toyota now in our care at Yoogali Vets. Let us know if he is yours.

17.01.2022 Dr Kim & Dr Michelle went out pregnancy testing some beautifully kept cows recently, one decided to steal the show. #Raceready!

17.01.2022 Christmas time is meant to be enjoyed with family and friends and not at the vet. Here's some ways to keep our pets safe this Christmas - Keep Christmas sweets away, - chocolate toxicities don't just happen at Easter! - Mince pies & Christmas puddings contain sultanas which are toxic to our pets... - Do not feed cooked bones, these can splinter and lacerate or block throats, stomachs & intestines - Avoid feeding fatty foods; crackling / cold cuts/ turkey skin / cheese etc can upset our pet's pancreas and cause a painful condition called pancreatitis - Onions ; similar to sultanas / grapes are toxic - Heat stress ; ensure ours pets stay cool this festive season to minimise heat stroke - Noises ; it's not just fireworks that can upset our pets, loud family members can do the same! Ensure noise-sensitive pets have somewhere quiet & secure they can escape to. A collar with a contact number is a wonderful investment in case of an escape! - Stressed cats ; cat's are often sensitive to change so a sudden increase in activity or people in a household can cause stress related diseases such as bladder inflammation. Minimise stress for your cat by ensuring they have somewhere quiet & private to escape to with their food/water bowls & litter box handy - Minimise risk of ingestion of foreign objects; tinsel, Christmas decorations & gifts are often very interesting to our pets and can end up causing obstructions if eaten. 16.01.2022 How many puppies? When breeding dogs it's recommended to do a radiograph after day45 of pregnancy to count how many puppies are due to be born. If the litter is small, birthing issues and even caesarian sections are more likely, allowing the owner & the clinic to be aware. This mumma-to-be came in, can you guess how many puppies were born (later that day!!!) Answer will be in comments tomorrow.

16.01.2022 Last chance to enter our sunsafe pets competition! Winner announced tonight

15.01.2022 Ollie was so brave today and went home two stone lighter after being desexed! #responsiblefurparent

13.01.2022 Ear infections What a pain in the ear! A lot of our dogs suffer from ear infections. Signs include: - Shaking their head - Scratching at their affected ear/s - Rubbing their head along the ground/walls ... - Build up of brown waxy discharge in their ears - Smelly ears - Crying when you touch their ears Ear infections are painful and very irritating for our dogs! They often occur when ears are moist (for example, from swimming in rivers/dams), if there is foreign body present (like a grass seed) or if their ear canals are narrow (conformational). Recurrent ear infections are often due to allergies which require ongoing management. If you notice any of these clinical signs in your pets, please come to the vets to get it examined. See more

13.01.2022 Bee careful! With the flowers coming out, the bees are out and about. Our very curious pets can get a little too close for a bee's comfort and get stung. The bee sting can be painful (and your pet will often vocalise). Other signs of a bee sting include, swollen sting site, vomiting, hives, restlessness, drooling and itchiness. Whilst bee stings can be scary, they are easily treatable. For first aid, if you can see the stinger, remove it and apply a cold compress to the area. Call your vet and they guide you over the phone for appropriate further actions.

12.01.2022 Hump day funny. Horse owners, if you’re lucky (?!) enough you may even see one of our own vets do their own rendition.

12.01.2022 Dr Michelle & Nurse Sam recently enjoyed meeting some new equine patients during a routine dental. To allow a thorough & safe dental examination, each patient was given a full health check and lightly sedated. Sedation allows every nook & cranny to be inspected using a mirror & probe. Every mouth checked has something interesting about it, and this gelding was no different! A food pocket was found between the palate and the back of the upper incisor teeth. Food packing can ca...use havoc to the delicate tissue surrounding teeth and be a cause of infection. Who knows how long that food had been stuck there! Some mild gum recession had occurred and the gum was inflamed & bleeding; a sign of infection. Dr Michelle & Nurse Sam cleaned the area free of food with a probe and mirror and thoroughly flushed the gum and between each tooth with a medicated rinse to aid gum healing. We have no doubt this beautiful horse was appreciative and is feeling much more comfortable not having food stuck around his teeth. The girls were also lucky to have a very cute assistant supervising every move. See more

11.01.2022 We're always improving our ability to provide gold standard to animals. This is our most recent addition to our facilities, a horse crush (under shade!) with adjustable heights for a tiny little equine patients and an adjustable anchor point for our dental halter for equine dentals.

10.01.2022 **Winner*** of our sunsafe pets competition is Nox owned by Kerry Orellana We love the use of petsafe sun screen, shade AND being water safe! Please pop by the clinic this week up to pick up your prize of rollon petsafe sunscreen. It was a tricky decision with some inventive ways of keeping cool! Thankyou for all getting involved! ... We hope everyone is staying cool and sunsafe this hot weekend!

10.01.2022 Our nurses go above and beyond for patient comfort. Wes was induced to vomit up something he shouldn’t have eaten. Nurse Tayla didn’t hesitate to use her scrunchie to tie Wes’ beautiful ears back so they didn’t get messy. Wes went home 10 minutes later feeling and still looking great!

08.01.2022 Going to the doctor can be scary. Soft voices, cuddles, liver treats & roast chicken make it a little bit less so. Stumpy is a kind boy who will do anything you ask as long as he always has a gentle hand on him.

07.01.2022 Spring cleaning? If you have any old unwanted towels you don't know what to do with we can take these of your hands for bedding for our patients. We also take old newspapers and blankets.

05.01.2022 We hope you are enjoying your Labour day long weekend!

05.01.2022 Rat Bait Over the last couple of months, we have seen a large number of dogs & cats with rat/mouse bait toxicity. Mice and rats are breeding rapidly and are expected to reach plague proportions. As a result, baits are being laid in many places. Despite packaging there is no ‘safe’ bait to have around your pets. Poisonings from eating poisoned rats/mice are just as dangerous as eating the bait itself. ... If you suspect your animal has eaten a bait, or a poisoned rodent, please call the clinic on (02)69641999 as quickly as possible. If presented to the clinic within 2 hours of bait/rodent ingestion the risk of toxicity is reduced significantly. Some signs & symptoms include, Pale gums, or small pinpoint bleeds Reduced appetite Lethargy Bleeding from the nose, bladder, vulva Vomiting &/or Diarrhoea Coughing &/or laboured breathing. Treatment will depend on the severity of the toxicity & time of ingestion. In some cases, a blood transfusion is required.

04.01.2022 Congratulations to our most recent Puppy Preschool graduates :)

02.01.2022 We love our equine dentistry at Yoogali Vets. Flic came in for a routine equine dental after she was noted dropping feed, eating slowly and most recently flicking her head and resisting the bit when working stock. Flic was found to have sharp enamel points on all teeth, profound hooks, food packing around one of her molar teeth and a grass seed that was starting to track up into her gums. Equine dental veterinarians have the skill and legal ability to safely sedate horses f...or dentals. This allows thorough examination of every nook and cranny in the mouth by hand, feel, mirror and probe. It also allows a safe tailored and treatment to be performed, all whilst keeping the horse comfortable and relaxed. Sedation also allows us to get little extra things done a lot easier; sheath cleans, vaccinations, microchipping or in Flic's case a new summer hair do and a neat bridle path! See more
