22.01.2022 OVER $1000 FROM RM 17'S SMALL BUSINESS EFFORTS! The children in Room 17 planned, organised and ran their own small businesses as part of the Economics and Business learning area. After pitching their business ideas to Mr Wright and getting approval from Mr Lockyer, the children ran their small businesses over Week Five and Six this term. The businesses included; face painting, nail painting, car washing, brownies, cupcakes, pizza, lemonade, milo, slushies, spiders, tea and coffee and some raffles. The children needed $650 to afford a bus to go and visit their pen pals in Ellenbrook. They exceeded expectations and raised a huge $1006.15. Thanks to everyone who supported Room 17’s small businesses. Well done Room 17!

20.01.2022 ‘Be You' Day 2020 As part of York District High School’s commitment to supporting mental health and wellbeing, we will be hosting ‘Be You’ Day during WA Mental Health Week, on Friday 16th October. ‘Be You’ integrates programs aimed at promoting social and emotional health and wellbeing for children and young people. Our aim is to build supportive community networks, fight stigma against Mental Health and encourage help seeking behaviours. Students are also encouraged to ‘Wea...r Blue for Be You’ on this day for a non-compulsory gold coin donation. This year, ‘Be You’ Day will provide students the opportunity to learn about wellbeing, participate in games and activities that promote social and emotional wellbeing and resilience. There will be a petting zoo, rotational activities, friendship skill building and wellbeing awareness raising. As part of the day’s activities students will also be given the opportunity to have a sausage sizzle lunch however, they will still be required to being their own recess. The ‘Be You’ Team’s vision is that it will be a fun and inclusive day for all, and encourages everyone to learn how to support their own mental health and wellbeing. If you have any queries about ‘Be You’ Day, please contact the school on 9641 3100. #strongertogether

16.01.2022 YEAR 9/10 ESCC KALBARRI CAMP DAY 2 Our Year 9 and 10 Cadets arrived safely in Kalbarri yesterday after a long bus trip. We spent the evening settling into our accommodation and then took a walk along the Murchison River. Today was our first day of activities. The Year 10 Cadets spent the day hiking into the gorges to then canoe in the river through the amazing scenery. This was followed by a very steep climb out of the gorges and a visit to Nature’s Window. The Year 9 Cadet...s also went to the national park to abseil in the gorges. They attempted a 4-meter, 25-meter, and a 35-meter abseil. Everyone will be sleeping well tonight! Ms Kimberley Bell ESCC Unit Leader

03.01.2022 YEAR 9/10 ESCC KALBARRI CAMP DAY 3 Wednesday in Kalbarri was a very hot day! The Year 9 Cadets spent the morning cooling off in the river, choosing from a variety of non-motorised water craft, such as canoes, kayaks, and peddle boats, to make their way from one side of the river to the other. In the afternoon they then completed a 8km walk along the scenic ocean cliffs south of the Kalbarri township. The Year 10 Cadets went trail riding on horses along the river, and either... took part in a charter boat tour that took the students crayfishing or whale watching. The whales were impressive and came fairly close to the vessel, while the crayfishing group assisted in pulling 12 crayfish pots and we were able to take home 24 crayfish. Year 10 Cadets then enjoyed a dinner out at a local restaurant, while Year 9s enjoyed parmy night made by our master chef team. We also managed to fit in some more fishing time at the jetty. A fantastic effort on this day by all of our Cadets! Ms Kimberley Bell ESCC Unit Leader

02.01.2022 YEAR 9/10 ESCC KALBARRI CAMP DAY 4 Thursday was a really busy day, particularly for our Year 10 Cadets. They started off by feeding the local pelicans, and then had a quick paddling session using the canoes and kayaks on the Murchison River. The Year 10s then headed out to the recently opened Sky Walk in the Kalbarri National Park. What a great photo opportunity! In the afternoon the Year 10 students visited the bird park and life size maze, followed by a sunset river cruis...e. The Year 9 Cadets had the opportunity to horse ride today, all really enjoying the experience. Once again the Year 9s fitted in some fishing and swimming. A dinner of crayfish for entree (freshly caught the previous day) and main of beef curry was followed by the annual dormitory inspection competition. Sabotage was rife this year, with the students being more competitive than ever, however the Year 9 girls dorm came out as our winners. Well done girls! Our Cadets are packed and ready to leave Kalbarri at 7:00am tomorrow, with an expected return time of approx 4:00pm. Updates will be posted during the day. Ms Kimberley Bell ESCC Unit Leader
