25.01.2022 A BIG DAY AT THE YOSEIKAN-RYU HOMBU DOJO. Mitchell Durham achieved is 2nd Dan (Nidan). Mitchell commenced his karate journey on 16/03/2004. That’s right 16 years has already passed since his first lesson. Mitchell is a second generation karate-ka. His father, Jerome Durham, also started karate as a child. He is still going strong. From memory Jerome was 9 years of age. Jonathan Staynor achieved his 3rd Dan (Sandan). Jonathan started Yoseikan-Ryu Karate 23/08/2008. He original...ly commenced his karate training in the UK. When he moved to Perth he continued his training but not with us. It was through tournaments that he decided to join Yoseikan-Ryu. He has never looked back. The rest is history. Christopher Houghton also achieved his 3rd Dan (Sandan). He started Yoseikan-Ryu Karate 16/04/1999. He commenced his training as 7 year old. Chris is a dedicated instructor who always gives his best. He is an exceptional young man who has always made his parents and fellow karate-ka proud. I can't speak to highly of Mitch, Jono and Chris. It is instructors like them that make Yoseikan-Ryu Karate what it is today. Well done to you all. Also thanks to the grading Panel Jerome Durham and Owen Blockley.

21.01.2022 The black belt grading is such a special day for Yoseikan-Ryu Karate. Sunday 13th June was the day that 4 members decided to have a go. Three succeeded. The grading commenced at 9.30am and finished about 3.00pm. Yes its a very long and challenging day for the participants. The successful participants were pushed to their physical and mental limits. The sense of euphoria once they succeed is there for all to see. Emotions run high when parents see and are amazed at what thei...r children can achieve. Many a parent sheds a tear during the day. At the conclusion it is tears of joy. Congratulations to Michael Dolzan. It was amazing to see what Michael, a 57 year old, achieved. It has not always been easy for Michael. What you have to admire about Michael is his resilience. Michael started karate 09/03/2016. Jana Van Niekerk did an exceptional grading. Like Michael she has survived adversity at gradings and did not quit. Jana commenced her training on the 03/09/2014 Finally Callum Terry gave every thing he had. This young man has been a pleasure to teach. He has a great sense of humour which always livens up the class. Callum commenced his karate training 10/06/2011 What is worth noting is that if you want to achieve a black belt in Yoseikan it will take you a while. Branco always reminds students and parents that in spite of the fact there is no grading free, the grading is not free. You must work hard and be deserving. Finally thanks to the panel Adrian Koelewyn and Owen Blockley. Also a big thanks to Rebecca Bartlett for her medical expertise, Fortunately she did not have much to do.

10.01.2022 Yoseikan-Ryu Karate achieved outstanding results at the State Championships. Before I acknowledge athletes and their results I think it is important to acknowledge the unsung volunteers behind the scenes. 10.01.2022 Saturday 21st November was our first Senior Black Belt grading for the year. The grading commenced at 9.00am and ended at 3.00pm. Seven people started out 5 made it. This has been a very interesting and in many ways a challenging year for everyone. The Yoseikan black grading is the most important day in the year for us. The participants always walk away with a sense pride in their outstanding achievement. Branco always reminds the students that even though there is no fee for... the grading, the grading is not free. If you are not ready you will not make it. Yoseikan is about resilience and not giving up, if at first you don't succeed try again. Congratulations to: David Herriott Russell Harlow Tegan Forrest Colin Nullmeyers Roanne Young. All the successful participants will tell you that it was the most difficult challenge they have faced in their lives. Its not for the faint of heart. My thanks to the grading panel, Jerome Durham, Adrian Koelewyn, Jonathan Staynor, Melisa Hodzic and Owen Blockley

10.01.2022 Some great action shots from our Junior Black Belt grading. These young people have worked their hearts out to achieve this goal. Tarou Barron started his karate journey on the 6th August 2013. That's right it has taken him 7 years to achieve his goal. He always gives his best. Apart from traditional karate he enjoys the competition side. David Young is a second generation Yoseikan member. His father Bruce Young was a member of the National Junior Team. David joined Yoseikan... on the 14th July 2015. Its been 5 years of dedication. Flynn Mahony started his Yoseikan journey on the 22nd May 2014. In all the years I have trained Flynn I have never had to tell him to work harder. Even though the 5 hour grading was exceptionally difficult none of the participants looked like they would give up. Chelsea Pizzino is also a second generation Yoseikan member. Her father Joe used to train at our Girrawheen Centre. Her sister Chantelle also achieved her black belt 3 years ago. Chelsea was training 6 days a week in preparation for her grading. Her desire to succeed never waivered. As you can see we don't give black belts easily. It takes many years to achieve. Thanks to Arshia Gerami for the photographs.

09.01.2022 NO MORLEY CLASSES September School holidays Closed Monday 28th Sept to Thursday 8th October inclusive Morley resumes Monday 12th October... 07.01.2022 Nicole Bridgeman took an excellent training session today at Malaga. To date she is WAs most successful kata competitor. Thanks Nicole we look forward to you taking many more sessions. Your expertise can only benefit our elite kata squad.

07.01.2022 LIFE MEMBER - 20 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE Congratulations to Sensei Vidas Ridikas on being presented His commemorative plaque for life membership with Yoseikan after being a member for 20 years. Sensei Vidas is a dedicated instructor who loves passing on his Karate knowledge to all our students. Well done Vidas. Hopefully many more years to come!

07.01.2022 Our very popular elite kumite session. This is a highly motivated group of Yoseikan athletes. They all work well together.

06.01.2022 Well done Keira and a big thank you Owen Blockley for your support.

06.01.2022 Another big weekend at Yoseikan's Hombu Dojo Malaga. Nearly 200 students tested for their next belt. As usual there was triumph and in some cases disappointment. In most cases students who get disappointed learn from their experience and return with a vengeance. These students are an inspiration to all. My personal thanks to all the instructors who sat on the panels. Adam Camuglia , Lita Bromwich, Art Comiskey, Mitchell Durham, Tegan Forrest, Sam Lloyd, Kevin Chalklin, Xavie...r Lilleyman, Adam Pride, Jonathan & Anita Staynor and Maryanne Harper. Your dedication and commitment to Yoseikan-Ryu Karate is appreciated. Lastly thanks to Tracey Durham and Olivia Stead for their administration support. And finally Nives Bratich who makes the show run.

05.01.2022 DEDICATION, COMMITTMENT & RESILIANCE. While many of us are just getting back into training, or may have been doing a few sessions over the Covid break, Keira Sanft has been an exception. The shutdown over Covid presented Keira with an opportunity, which she grabbed with both hands, the advent of on-line Kata Tournaments.... The tournaments are run online and competitors from all over the world compete against each other in a one on one knockout style competition, with a max of 32 players per event. To date Keira has competed in 6 tournaments, including the Adidas Karate World Open Series & Spotrdata E-Tournament World Series, entering both the Female Cadet & under 18 Female category. Keira has so far achieved four 3rd places and two 5th places. Points are awarded depending on Event prestegue, number of rounds won & overall finish place and go towards a World Ranking. With result like these it is easy to see why Keira is currently ranked 11th in Cadets & 10th in Under18 Female divisions. Keira who has been training for over 10 years, also has multiple State, National & International Titles to her name.

03.01.2022 The latest schedule for the Yoseikan hombu ( headquarters)

03.01.2022 The West Australian Karate Federation annual awards were held last night. Yoseikan was well represented in the award presentation. In fact since last years awards night was cancelled due to covid. This was really the 2020 and 2021 awards night. Well done to all of you athletes. Keep up the good work. Also lets not forget our club coaches Owen Blockley, Jerome Durham and Rudi James for your dedication to their training. WE are proud of you all.

03.01.2022 More history. Three of Australia's top female competitors, Jessica Bratich, Karie Marriot and Kellie Shimmings. Nationally competing in the women's team event they were unbeatable. There is also a great shot of Nicole Bridgeman doing a very effective takedown. Her mother was scoring at the time on the ring that Nicole was fighting. Unfortunately she was looking down at the time and missed the action.

02.01.2022 Another Perth Kyu grading completed. Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th. Not all the higher grades made it, which is to be expected at this level. The most import issue for the instructors is that students don't see it as a failure, but as a guide as to how much work you have to do to achieve your goal. RESILIENCE IS WHAT WE PRIDE OURSELVES ON AT YOSEIKAN. My thanks to our panel of judges. Art Comiskey Tegan Forrest... Chris Houghton Mark Shapiro Jono Staynor Jerome Durham Anita Staynor Melisa Hodzic Maryanne Harper Adrian Koelewyn Sam Lloyd Chris White Owen Blockley Chris Houghton Also a big thankyou to Tracey Durham and Olivia Stead for their administration support and of course thanks to Ethan Stead who helped with organising the belts. 02.01.2022 We have been running our very popular senior black belt kata session for several weeks. I was pleasantly surprised how popular it has become. Today I taught the basics of the Bo. Everyone found it enjoyable and in some cases challenging. Melisa Hodzic took the training to the next level when she did some creative weapon training with the broom. I particularly enjoyed the sweeping part. Saved me doing it.
