22.01.2022 Headstand is about finding balance between the front and the back, the left and the right. If you are unfocused and tensed, you won’t be able to do it, you will panic and then lose balance. Follow each step slowly and do not rush if you get stuck somewhere. Rushing is what will likely get you injured and ultimately set your practice back. Make sure you warm up before attempting to do a headstand: warm up the spine, back, core, and neck. ... Go to @yoshimatherapy YouTube page for a 25min Headstand class, where we work the body in a particular way in order to get you focused and stable into headstand. Common mistakes: Elbows too wide apart -- this will make it harder to drag your feet towards your face and too hard to balance once your legs are off the ground. "Walking" your feet forward instead of "dragging" them. If you drag your feet (tops of feet have to be on the mat) then you will activate your core. If you walk them forward your core is not being activated at all. Keep practicing to drag your feet until you can manage to bring your hips on top of your shoulders. This will make the next step easy (lifting the legs up). Kicking the legs/feet up because you don't have the core strength to slowly lift them up. This is super dangerous and can get your neck injured over time. Pay your dues now and avoid long term injuries. Be patient and your practice will last forever. Be impatient and you will end up with a bad neck, which is much harder to fix (and also much more expensive!). Lifting the knees/legs too quickly aka rushing the legs up. This will make you lose balance and just shows lack of control in the pose. Start by keeping the legs bent. Then over time and with practice if you feel good and stable, slowly straigthen the legs. Once straight, squeeze inner thighs together, lift inside ankles, engage your core and tuck the lower ribs IN. DON'T arch your lower back. This is a stress reaction from the kidneys. Which is why working the spine and back is very smart and beneficial before getting into headstand. Enjoy the process and stay safe. #yogatherapy #5elements #yogatutorial #headstand #headstandpractice #meridianyogatherapy #myt
