21.01.2022 Think on These Things Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4: 8, KJV Focusing our minds on good, positive things, takes effort and perseverance. Why is this important and how can you do it? Click the Learn More button above to read the blog.

19.01.2022 I love poetry and have begun writing my own. I plan to write 101 fun limericks (have already written nearly 50) and would like to know who would be interested in buying such a book and what youd be prepared to pay. Am also looking for an illustrator - a simple line drawing for each limerick which captures the humour. Any takers?

19.01.2022 Writing any poem with rhythm can be a real challenge but writing a limerick which has a couple of very short lines that rhyme, can be downright frustrating. See How to Write Humorous Limericks by clicking the Learn More button above.

19.01.2022 My new limerick book is progressing well.Phil Judd, the Brisbane cartoonist who is illustrating the book, is now up to the inking stage. Im thrilled with his art work and am looking forward to seeing the illustrations in colour. Its hard to explain the pictures you have in your mind to someone else, but I think Phil has captured my thoughts very well. Exciting stuff!

18.01.2022 It was fun writing 101 limericks. They are not easy to write as the rhythm pattern is pretty demanding. Rhyming is an easier skill and so is counting syllables, but to find words which express your thoughts with the correct rhythm for a limerick is tricky to say the least. However, its a great feeling of satisfaction to complete one. Organising them for a book was an even bigger challenge - a subject for another post. My book will be published soon. Will let you know when.

18.01.2022 Setting SMARTER goals Do you go to the supermarket without a shopping list and hope that you will spot items you need as you wander up and down the aisles? This... may be fine for those who shop everyday as items forgotten one day may be purchased the next. Most of us, however, dont have this luxury and find preparing a list beforehand makes for more effective and less stressful trips to the supermarket. The same is true of goal setting! 17.01.2022 Time Management Important? How important is time management to a hairdresser? I asked. Very important, was the reply, especially in a busy salon like this with so much going on. I glanced around quickly at the seven or eight clients all at different stages of hair treatments and the hairdressers hovering about them. The client beside me sipped a cup of coffee and flicked through a magazine while waiting for her timer to go off.... What happens if a hairdresser doesnt have good time management skills? I continued. Click the Learn More button to read the full blog and for some hints on teaching your child how to manage time.

16.01.2022 Whoa! How do you feel when friends give you honest feedback on something you have spent hours (and days) writing? Its hard to put your work out there to be analysed and criticised. Actually, my friends who read my "101 Lively Limericks" were very gentle. One suggested I forget about alphabetical order and group similar limericks together, a suggestion I took on board. From another friends feedback I realised some limericks did not work so well if they were read with different emphases to the way I read them myself. This meant rewriting lines and phrases so there could be no mistaking how they should be read, and this was important because limericks are meant to be read aloud!

16.01.2022 It was a blessing to receive encouragement from Corinne! Her enthusiasm and caring for people are amazing. We wish her well as she fulfills her responsibilities of MP representing Mansfield.

15.01.2022 Learning Times Tables Without Pain Mrs A stands at the front of the class, pointing stick in hand, demanding all eyes to the front while she points to each line of the three times tables chart while students chant each number fact. Meanwhile in another classroom, Mrs B moves from group to group of students who work with brightly coloured counters arranging them carefully in arrays (rows and columns), counting them and recording the number facts for themselves. ... Which teaching method do you suppose is the more effective? Which method is more likely to produce positive attitudes towards Mathematics on the part of the students? 15.01.2022 How do you go about laying out a book? From a Word document with 101 limericks and four to a page, and not in the order I wanted, how should I reorganise them? Starting a new document was my first thought but instead I printed out my file, cut up the pages so each limerick was separate and pasted them onto blank A4 paper folded in half like a booklet. As I wanted illustrations, it was important to know how many, so I could place them in my pasted up book. Contacting a cartoonist for an idea of costs helped me decide to illustrate every third limerick which meant that on the left page of the open book there would be two limericks and on the right page there would be one with an illustration above it.

11.01.2022 How do you organise 101 limericks on a variety of subjects to make them easy to find in a book? As I wrote them it soon became clear that some were about people and others were about animals, so that meant two sections which I named Peculiar People and Animal Friends. Soon I discovered that some did not fit easily into either category, so they became Miscellaneous. I began playing around with the wording of Nursery Rhymes and challenged myself to turn them into limericks, thus another section was added to my book. Within each section I organised them alphabetically by title, that is, until I had written all 101 and then posted them off to a few friends for some feedback. What happened next will be the subject of my next post.
