22.01.2022 It was great to return to Dakabin State High School today and welcome a new cohort of senior students to Australia's youth-led mission to change driving culture. As always there were some insightful exchanges afterward, with many students promising ourselves and each other to #protect their #families and their #community by taking personal #accountability for their #choices as passengers and drivers. Well done #Dakabin! It was important to hear from one young man that he was ...terribly worried about the driving habits of his older brother. If that student takes the same emotional #authenticity, #vulnerability and #honesty to his #brother, he may well save the whole family from a life of #grief. Amazing to discover that road safety - and fixing our broken culture of 'luck' - depends on LOVE. Fantastic leadership... Here's what Teneal had to say: Today Melissa from you Choose Youth Road Safety came to Dakabin and shared her gut-wrenching story of Jordan’s tragic death. I sat and listened as my stomach churned. I imagined my family in this situation. I couldn’t comprehend how that would feel. I appreciate Melissa so much for coming out and telling her story. She’s inspired me to drive safely and remind others to do the same. It was honestly amazing seeing the reactions coming from the cohort I’ve known for so many years. Again, I thank you so much for choosing our school to come to. #dakabin #dakabinhigh #dakabinstatehigh #youchoose #youchooseyrs #youthroadsafety #ownthechoice #ownthechoiceowntheoutcome #roadsafety #towardszero #love #family #empowerment #lovefamilyempowerment #youthempowerment #teenroadsafety #drivesos

22.01.2022 Earlier this month, the amazing Postle family ran a magnificent Bunnings Brendale sausage sizzle fundraiser at #Brendale north of Brisbane. Commemorating their beautiful daughter, sister, niece, cousin, friend, #Alyssa, who lost to her loved ones and her community so needlessly in August last year. Live4Lyss and YOU CHOOSE Youth Road Safety are inspired and humbled by the empathy, generosity and big hearts of the #Moreton district. Every dollar raised is critically important ...to uplifting teens around the country to join Australia's youth-led mission to change driving culture. Thank you to everyone who contributed...you have made a practical impact on protecting your families and your communities from the preventable misery of youth road trauma. We'd especially like to acknowledge Cindy Postle, whose energy and determination is a very moving tribute to her treasured neice, Lyss. #live4lyss #alyssapostle #bunnings #sausagesizzle #bunningsausagesizzle #youchoose #youthroadsafety #famiky #love #empowerment @

22.01.2022 We were humbled and honoured to receive the Australian Road Safety Award for School Programs today from Road Safety Minister Scott Buchholz MP at Parliament House, Canberra today. Thank you to Russell White and team from the Australian Road Safety Foundation for the tireless work on the Awards and on every aspect of making safer roads for all Australians. We're also very grateful for the camaraderie and support of Darren and Debbie Davies of the Get Home Safe Foundation. Most... of all - any acknowledgement of the YOU CHOOSE Youth Road Safety is shared by every student, every parent, every teacher, every police officer, every council road safety officer and every awareness campaigner who carries Australia's youth-led mission to change driving culture on their shoulders. The YOU CHOOSE mission is truly a community owned asset. LOVE. FAMILY. The EMPOWERMENT of CHOICE. #ownthechoice #owntheoutcome #australianroadsafetyawards #australianroadsafetyfoundation #arsf #scottbuchholz #towardszero #roadsafety #youchoose #youchooseyrs

19.01.2022 On Thursday this week we engaged with a group of 40 Year 12s at Lutheran Ormeau Rivers District School (LORDS). This school is situated very close to Jordan’s crash site; and these students often drive past Jordan’s victims’ memorial sites without knowing who the crosses commemorate or what took place. It now means a whole lot more knowing that the four innocent young adults had their life taken from them due to one person's selfish and reckless behaviour. A senseless and w...holly preventable tragedy. A poignant reminder for the LORDS community that every teen can play their part in Australia’s youth-led mission to change driving culture. It was great to have Darren and Debbie from Get Home Safe Foundation attend. They especially flew all the way from SA to see the presentation. We at YOU CHOOSE Youth Road Safety very much look forward to collaborating with them. Thanks also to the young man who carried my bags and walked me out of LORDS. He shared a story about a friend who was moved to tears about a mate who lost his life in a motorcycle crash. This student knows first-hand how shattered his mate was over losing a loved one. A new YOU CHOOSE campaigner who will never allow this to happen to anyone he cares about. Here's what Mack had to say: "Thanks for coming in and sharing the story of your son Jordan and the impact that his death had on you, the families of the victims in the crash, your family, friends and the community. Thank you for the wake up call. Our class needed it." #lords #lutheranschools #lutheran #ormeau #gethomesafefoundation #youchooseyrs #youchoose #pimpama #roadsafety

17.01.2022 There is no mistaking who the school captains are at Upper Coomera State College! On a billboard as you walk into the school are the faces of 2021 #UCSC Captains. Larger than life! What a brilliant initiative to update this billboard each year to honour these fine young teens and - indeed - the whole college community. ... Earlier this year, Year 12 Assisi Catholic College reached out to neighbouring schools after seeing YOU CHOOSE including UCSC. Thanks to the USCS captains who then organized with their Year 12 co-ordinator to ensure that Australia's youth-led mission to change driving culture came to their school. This is what YOU CHOOSE Youth Road Safety is all about. LOVE. FAMILY. EMPOWERMENT OF CHOICE. YOU CHOOSE is a community-owned asset. And it's in fantastic hands at UCSC. Over to you! Here is what two students had to say: Zane: During the last video of everyone going off into the surf, I saw you walk over to the side and so carefully fold up your son’s senior jersey. The amount of care and gentleness you put into folding that jersey really hit me. It was obvious you had so much sorrow and it meant so much to you that it made me consider if that was my very own senior jersey, and it was my mum that was put in your place with my jersey to remember me by. I realised I never want to see my mother in that position. It really hit me hard, and completely changed my perspective on how I should act on the road. I drove home from school today, and ensured I stayed under the speed limit the entire time, and I will try my best to continue this. Thank you, I know for a fact you’ve changed at least one person’s perspective today." Zinedine: "I loved your presentation and I have been waiting to get home so I can tell you. I connected so much with the grief you and your family have been through for different reasons and I just can't make it my family in these circumstances. I am going to do everything in my power to spread your message throughout my family, throughout school, because your voice needs to be heard. I appreciate you coming to our school and as part of the leadership team I will be attempting to raise awareness for donations as well thank you." #uppercoomera #coomera #uppercoomerastatecollege #ucsc #youchoose #roadsafety

12.01.2022 In 2012, YOU CHOOSE founders Melissa and Peter McGuinness’s 18-year-old son, Jordan, was speeding and under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he drove his car into stationary vehicle. His choices killed four young victims in the other car and also himself. The YOU CHOOSE mission is to inspire a genuine social movement for changed driving behaviours. Presentations are designed for profound cut-through to teenagers; while School Leader and Scholarship programs uplift youn...g people to protect their families and their communities through collective peer advocacy and personal accountability. YOU CHOOSE Youth Road Safety is acknowledged, supported and advocated by Police, Educators, Transport Departments, Parents and Young People around Australia.
