25.01.2022 Like this giant snail that I came across this morning, Lego snail gears makes everything move just as slow!

24.01.2022 Love the passion this teacher put into teaching children in a visual and fun way!

22.01.2022 As our home Lego bricks quantity grew steadily over the last many years, it has become difficult to store and maintain them. We went through draw string bags, and now they are just sitting in a large tub. My children are not keen to build at the moment because sifting and searching through the tub is not fun. So I seeked help from some wise OZLUG members. Everyone was so helpful giving me ideas how to catalogue and store Lego and this morning, I spent a small investment into ...some cool storage compartments by Akro-Mils A lot of the easier options is to use storage and food containers from Bunnings or Kmart. But what I love about my choice is that these trays make it more compact and they DON'T have a lid. Can you imagine the kids needing to open 10 lids to get the different pieces they want, having all the lids lying around on the floor as they build, and then they need to close each one of those lids at the end when they're done? Hence my final decision to go with Akro-Mils stackable storage compartments. Looks like it will be our Christmas project to catalogue all our Lego inventory . 21.01.2022 Kindergarten children at Eastlakes Public School are learning all about the purpose and importance of conveyor belts today. Lots of hands on exploring to build a working model and extension challenges to test their creativity. How many different places can you name that have conveyor belts?

17.01.2022 We had a blast this week at Sutherland North Public School studying how we could make BeyBlade out of Lego. Not only did we do this, we also built a Lego version launcher. The 2 worked together because they utilised gears to create a double speed increasing transmission, something that allowed the BeyBlade to spin very fast while only twisting the launcher by a fraction. Children looked at how gears worked together to make other components move. One of the important aspects of winning a BeyBlade battle is understanding momentum. Momentum is the strength of moving objects, which is made up of speed and mass. One of the challenges was to improve the BeyBlade stamina (more momentum).

17.01.2022 Everyone learns differently. Writing, hearing, building, experimenting!

17.01.2022 We have talked about robots replacing jobs in some of our incursions. Here is a bit more insight for the parents. Fear not. Even though repetitive, and low-skilled jobs are on the way out, the skills that can never be replaced will be the soft skills, creativity and innovation. https://www.industryweek.com//its-time-to-embrace-the-jobk

16.01.2022 How to race a Lego car: 1. Turn the motor on clockwise so it drives forward (not backwards) 2. Follow after the car as if you're walking the dog 3. Do not tug the car as a way to get it to drive faster 4. Modify the car to maximum gearing to win the race... #youngengineers #iteachstem #problembasedlearning #kidsinengineering #primaryschool #STEMmatters #ILoveSTEM #projectbasedlearning #curiousminds #racecar #legocar #lego #howtorace

14.01.2022 We love it when children can recall what they have learnt. Learning comes in several points of contact: - Listen - Repeat - Try ... - Error - Fix Why is STEM so well received? The children love being involved in hands on learning. It gives them time to ponder and tinker over that new idea. See more

13.01.2022 Teamwork teaches kids important skills and life lessons, but like any other skill, allowing them to flourish in a suitable environment is a critical aspect of the process. Give the team a problem to work on and the children will increase their social skills, persuasive skills and self-confidence. We help children develop into happier adults.

12.01.2022 Family Fun event at Flying Swallow was a winner! A lot of excited children who saw their creations come to life and hearing "can we do this again?", shows just how much fun they had. Hopefully we will see you soon!

12.01.2022 Having heard about Lego Braille last year, we are so thrilled to hear that Lego will be officially releasing Lego Braille Bricks in 20 countries around the globe. What a clever way to engage children with vision impairment to learn to read and write. The ability to learn through playing is so powerful that it can fast track skills and social development. Thank you Lego, for looking out for all the children in the world.... https://www.lego.com//aboutus/news/2020/august/lego-braill

12.01.2022 Some light enjoyment. How cute are these creations?

11.01.2022 The children at Menai Public School are very happy to see us back in the classroom with them to complete the program that we did not get to finish in term 1. Here are some happy Young Engineers discovering the educational aspect of Lego.

06.01.2022 We spread joy in learning! Camdenville Public School

06.01.2022 The life of scales evolved since 2000BC, from balancing scales to spring scales and now digital scales. Through STEM, children learn new terminology that allows then to physically experiment with different weights, determining whether something is heavier or lighter, what it means when the lever is horizontal and how to make a scale balance. We were thrilled when the children recalled words like "fulcrum" and "lever" from earlier lessons. That's why we love teaching STEM!!

05.01.2022 From contacting Young Engineers to a finalised and booked school incursion that supplements the class curriculum, all in a record time of 24 hours! You won't beat a record like that!! See you soon Holy Family Catholic Primary School.

03.01.2022 I am so grateful that NSW has an operating economy and that Young Engineers is out there making a difference to the lives of children in this difficult time in global history. I love seeing the children in class and the amount of knowledge they have gained from class. Today, students at our Sutherland class stretched their skills and competently increased the speed of a kitchen mixer by making clever choices in gear sizes. Consequently they also fixed the gapping problem to e...nsure the gears remained engaged and provided transmission. Loving your work and your curious minds! 01.01.2022 We extended on last week's conveyor belt model which helped post office workers sort out 1 million parcels a day. Today it was understanding how heavy objects can be lifted and moved around in an experiment with a multi-pulley system. But what was really amazing was seeing children applying the knowledge they had last week and applying that in today's build with a customised Bronte School Post Office system: Combining the conveyor and pulley!
