24.01.2022 Heading to the #HilltopsRegion for cherries this weekend? Here is the updated who and where of #Cherryseason in the region Not all orchards are open yet so make sure you call ahead

21.01.2022 I am #nocelestebarber. I am however amazed and humbled by our community of Young and people’s generosity and the trust you have put in us. The stories coming o...ut of the fire ravaged areas are horrific. I have heard stories of a bloke who painted his mobile number on his horses and let them out in the Dunn’s Rd Fire (Batlow/ Tumba). A friend who’s home burnt to the ground on the South Coast and he and his wife and two children headed home to Young. A cousin who had fire burn to their fence and managed to save their home. An aunt and uncle who sheltered on the Eden wharf. A fellow IGA owner at Batehaven who’s house burnt down and has no trade due to power loss but isn’t complaining. These people are amazing. The resilience and determination of those in these catastrophic fires amazes me. We have collected : $27000 ( as at 8/1/2020) $16,000 in goods (approx) We have donated the following on behalf of our community MORUYA $2000 food and water that was taken by Tom and Jane Douch. Tom working at the hospital and Jane at the evacuation centre. Jane and Tom added approx $400 to this load themselves. TUMUT (Dunn’s Rd Fire) 4 pallets of water - two donated by our store and two by Metcsh 6 pallets of food and care packs Approx $8000 $5000 in IGA vouchers COBARGO 3 pallets of water - one donated by SOS Downunder and one by Metcash and one by the Cowra Community. $8000 In groceries - some donated by Cowra community $1700 in IGA vouchers 2 generators donated by a customer We purchased locally undies, sleeping bags and work clothes spending approx $1500 in town. A shipping container of clothes collected by Rachel Douglas and Lisa Cooke Photos to come - very appreciated delivery. LOCALLY We donated a pallet of water to the local RFS and we are providing snack foods for those local trucks heading into the Dunn’s Rd Fire area each day. TUMUT OPERATION CENTRE (Dunn’s Rd Fire) A pallet of water and other needs will head over to assist the RFS and volunteers in the staging area. This has all been possible because of you our community. We are still taking and packing donations and will have a load into Tumut this weekend for fire effected people in the area - the delivery will go Sunday. Again THANK YOU YOUNG. #community #dongesiga #sohumble #nocelestebarber

11.01.2022 A note from Moruya, South Coast, New South Wales, Australia. To our city cousins in Sydney, Canberra, Newcastle, Wollongong, Facebook friends in Asia, Britain, ...USA and Europe, expat Aussies and Aussies holidaying overseas - if you feel helpless during our bushfire crisis and have not found another site, please consider donating to the Donges Supa IGA Fire Appeal. Australian friends 02 6382 2443 International friends 00 61 02 6382 2443. Robert and Wendy and their grocery store staff are in Young, the same Timezone as Sydney. Wendy has direct contact with one of the Department of Communities & Justice team leaders who is on the Moruya site every day. Wendy also has the help of two local Young trucking companies Dorman Transport and Douglas Transport and the logistics teams of their IGA National chain of stores to make sure every single donation of either gift cards or goods, is going to where it’s needed. This is REAL, THIS IS NOW. IT WILL GO TO THOSE WHO NEED IT, WHEREVER THEY ARE. I can make this guarantee because I have been helping for 3 days at the Evacuation Centre here at Moruya. Moruya is to where Tom and I drove $2,000 of your water, food and toiletry donations and unloaded it into a secure place on site. Whilst people were free to choose donated clothing and bedding, I have witnessed the supervised distribution of donated foodstuffs and personal care items. Oversight of all operations has been by the AMAZING staff of Michael Coutts-Trotter. Michael is the head of the NSW Department of Communities and Justice. I’ll say it again - an AMAZING team, from this Department have been at the Moruya Showground Centre from Day 1, with ready smiles and a compassionate ear. Eurobodalla Shire Council staff were here. Mayor Liz Innes may indeed be immensely proud of her staff. My husband Tom and I will continue into the future to holiday in this Beautiful Shire and I had the ultimate privilege of working under the direction of Kathy Arthur and Kim Bush these last few days. I also know that outdoor Council staff saw to garbage removal, and that sewage lines and water for showering and porta-loos were kept open with the concentrated numbers at the Showground. The Salvation Army served meals and Anglicare, Red Cross, St John’s Ambulance, local chaplains and priests -all were present. Volunteers helped feed 115 horses, hundreds of dogs, a show pavilion full of chickens, birds and rabbits. Apologies if I’ve left out anyone. Donated chocolate has been given to the ED Department at Moruya Hospital, RFS Fire Management Centre, Moruya Ambulance Centre and today I will deliver to the Moruya Police Station and Moruya Fire and Rescue. Up to yesterday, up to 8,000 people have sheltered in the Evacuation Centres of Batemans Bay, Narooma and Moruya. The weather has eased, people were allowed to leave but to keep vigilant if they had a home to go to, but yesterday afternoon we could still see billowing smoke to the North and South. One man I gave a care pack to yesterday was alerted to imminent danger by a radio message from his car and fled from his home after seeing a 20metre wall of flame outside. As he prepared to leave felt he could have reached up and touched Elvis the aerial water bomber, it flew in so low. These people and our brothers and sisters around the country have seen, felt, heard, smelt so much and recovery will be a long long road. That and the ongoing danger is why the Centres remain open. *Today the heavens are raining on Moruya and surrounds. I Am - You Are We Are Australian Please consider giving to the Donges Supa IGA Fire Appeal 02 6382 2443 or Intl 00 61 02 6382 2443. Jane

07.01.2022 We love a country town get together! The annual Irish Woolfest in Boorowa, NSW, boasts an unusual competition: 150 sheep storm down the town's main street, an...d punters can try to pick a winner. It's the highlight of the town's calendar - and it's no mean feat to set up either! : Donal Sheil via ABC Central West, drone footage courtesy of Phil Stone

06.01.2022 Thunderstorms are possible today. Sufferers of asthma and hayfever should be on alert.
