25.01.2022 THE QUIET ACHIEVER David has only been with us a very short time and I firmly believe this little guy will be a quiet achiever. This is why I always express that the white belts do really matter in the Dojo. You just never know who these white belts are going to grow up to be like in the dojo. ... I love to embrace the beginner Kyokushin practitioner because one day after time and some good solid attention they may turn out to be one of the best fighters, technicians or leaders within the dojo. That would never happen if they are not embraced the right way. Admittedly, some students leave for whatever reason and we never really get the opportunity to embrace that side of a student, however life does go on and where one door closes on a student another door will open and a blank canvas has yet again presented itself for me to start my fresh piece of artwork. Check out this artwork in the making hands are up, trying to turn the foot and navigating through getting his body to deliver power. 22.01.2022 GUIDE AND LEAD Both Fatima and Hamish looked like they were going well guiding their little group of students today in class while I looked after Sara and Harry. Some sessions I like to separate the class and utilise Hamish and Fatima to help teach students. ... I separated the grades and they all had the opportunity to go over their own grade requirements under our guidance. Sara and Harry worked perfectly well under my guidance and from what I saw throughout the hour it seemed Fatima and Hamish had things well in hand and in control, guiding their groups through grade requirements etc. Thank you both of you kids for taking the time away from your family to help lead others through this tough discipline known as Kyokushin. You are both serving your community well by doing this and I am sure many of these kids and their parents will be appreciative of your time, help and guidance for their loved ones. Well done everyone, this is how a family should operate when working as one. No one family member is above another. We are all walking the same path. Yes some may have more knowledge and experience to date, however we are all one in the same, striving to be better at Kyokushin and learning all we can in order to help each other become stronger, more capable human beings. We are simply using Kyokushin as the platform to do this and I am proud to say I feel we are all doing a fabulous job. 20.01.2022 PRE-TEENS WORKED HARD Kihon, weights and Kata for these 3 kids today in class. If you check carefully you will see a very red and very sweaty Hamish lmao ... I know it’s evil of me to laugh at the pain they all went through Building tough little spirits in these kids and while it hurts at the time, they still laugh it off. 19.01.2022 CORE & BALANCE These kids received a random and rare fun balance moment after giving me a good warm up Tuesday afternoon. Going through the 3 stages by count and they definitely had way too much fun. Given it was their first time I shall most certainly have more discipline from them next time we do it ... You will see some little kids really giving it a good go, others just saw fun education at this age is super important on why these types of warm ups and drills are important for agility in training. 12.01.2022 BEGINNER TAKES ACTION Young Colin worked really well today in class. I was impressed by Jonathan who was also prepared to lead the way and show Colin how things are done. I’m pretty sure I actually heard Jonathan say to Colin Don’t worry, I can show you when I was getting these bag work drills done hahaha ... We definitely have a leader in the making with young Jonathan. He was tenacious on the bag today and showed some rather good self discipline (Had a couple of moments of silliness) but I can confidentially say 90% of the session was a solid effort. 12.01.2022 QUIET IN THE DOJO Was rather quiet for a Monday today. The 5pm squad were excited about the strength training as per usual. Little Abby freaked out at the thought of using the ladder, but of course after her first go, realising I had her back and that I was not going to drop her, Abby said That was so fun and keen to go again. ... Lesson learned....As long as we do genuinely have their back there is nothing a child can’t do. It may take a bit, but their self belief with improve 10 fold. I made Abby look me in the eyes and said Abby, I will not drop you, I have your back, I will not let go. Little Abby had fun then being pushed on the prowler, of course she had to push it herself but the rewards for her hard efforts was fun, as you can see in the image with Chloe hahaha Awesome job today from those who trained. 03.01.2022 BECOMING A MAN All you young boys, please be patient, train hard regularly and have faith. Your time will come when your body will change and develop. ... You will go through some very frustrating and confusing times, not really knowing who you are or what type of man you want to be. All I can advise which are the very wise words of Sosai, is to keep your head low (stay humble) and eyes high (Ambitious, passionate). Through these times when you are trying to work out who you are and what type of man you want to be, you will search for someone, something to be inspired by and sometimes if you don’t have the proper army of support and guidance, you may find your choices could lead you down a bad path. It must be difficult during the technology age to stand up and own your own story without others having a dig at what you are doing. All I ask is that you have faith in your abilities. Train hard to filter out all that negative noise, because truthfully that’s all it is, it is just noise. Don your Gi, put your energy into being faster, fitter, stronger more conditioned of the body and mind and be gone those who do not know your worth or value, be gone those who do not have that mental capacity to understand why you are following the Kyokushin Way, own it, deliver it hard and be super proud. If you need reassurance and support, I will always be here to remind you who you are and where you have come from. Never forget your journey and the highs and lows that it took you to get you to where you are today. I got your back Here is Stuart, becoming a young man and a very strong one at that. 01.01.2022 TAKE YOUR MARK, GET SET, GO! The race is on with these cheeky munchkins from Thursday class. The damn Duck waddle ... Caned my upper right calf/knee area and it gave way on me, and yep some of the kids caught me up and took over Well done kids for giving this exercise a go. Last school term I would never have even attempted this exercise because of the pain I was going through that was surrounding in and around the right side of groin, inner thigh, knee, calf and instep areas did not make it possible for me to attempt. Now look at me busy getting stronger. Even when I did have a wee drop in the right leg, I gathered my thoughts and continued on. 01.01.2022 CERTIFICATE OF IMPROVEMENT Congrats to you Stuart for making some solid changes and never giving up on working through many changes this year. Becoming a man no doubt has its challenges and I cannot speak from experience and many older men most likely forget what it truly felt like trying to become young man.... I know there have been times I was not well liked but I hope you know I have always had your best interest at heart and always will. You see Stuart, you already have your friends, you already have your parents and you have me as your Kyokushin Instructor, so it is important that I do my job in the best way I now how and keep you on track to achieve the goals you may set for yourself. When you grow older our relationship will change again and hopefully a strong friendship is what will come from all of this, but for now you need me to be your Kyokushin Instructor and this is what I shall be.
