25.01.2022 Recently our toddlers have been exploring transport! We have been enjoying exploring our imaginations using all kinds of materials, like IKEA’s iconic blue bag, which we upcycled to turn into boats. The children had so much fun exploring their social skills, imaginations and learning about recycling.

24.01.2022 Nursery Two is currently learning all about transport and construction! The children have enjoyed participating in many experiences including dress ups/dramatic play and arts & craft, along with sensory experiences.

23.01.2022 The children at Young Academics #Canterbury participated in a Magic Milk experiment - the idea was to teach the children that every action has a reaction. In this experience, we used dishwashing liquid, milk and food colouring to learn about this type of reaction. The little ones were fascinated with the outcome, as they watched the patterns swirl and the colours form.

23.01.2022 Today at Young Academics Early Learning Centre we had a very fun session with Coach Costa! Starting with stretches, we then ran warm-up drills, building up the children’s energy while running from one coloured cone to the other. Coach Costa then spiced it up with some crab side sliding, that the little ones found funny as they clicked while running from side to side. The session then followed with an obstacle course and goal kicking. ... Thank you for your weekly visit Soccajoeys - these sessions are excellent at enhancing children’s gross and fine motor skills, as well as focus and listening skills.

22.01.2022 This week at Young Academics Early Learning Centre, we had some very special visitors - DINOSAURS! We were able to learn all about different types of species, where they lived, what they ate and their family groupings. Children were also able to further explore through hands on activities like digging for their own fossils, painting their own dinosaurs and even getting to pat some life-like robots. The robots moved and interacted with the children as we learnt all about their scales, strength and sounds. It was a truly an exciting experience!

20.01.2022 Our toddlers have been working hard on their transport project whilst also looking for ways to recycle. We created a giant boat entirely made of recycled/upcycled materials! The children were able to explore their imaginations whilst also engaging in social and role play learning, and learning about the benefits of sustainability.

20.01.2022 As an extension of the children's interest, this week we focused on farm animals. Educators provided the children two separate sensory activities, in which they were exposed to different colours, contrasts and textures in which they had to identify. This was then complemented by the different sounds and physical qualities of the various farm animals.

19.01.2022 Sparking interest down by the seaside... This week's fun activity furthering the little one's interests involved a cardboard cutout of a shark and fish, enabling them to develop their fine motor skills and sharpen their pincer grip. This was also a clever way to develop social interaction, coordination and creativity.

17.01.2022 During Science Week at Young Academics Early Learning Centre our toddlers enjoyed exploring nature and colour through sensory experiences and scientific methods. Our toddlers were able to investigate a wide range of materials, experiment with mixing materials together, hypothesise and use trial & error methods to solve challenging problems and explore measurements, as we scooped and poured, while recycling. Putting the Little Scientists Program into practice, our educators facilitated further learning through understanding different scientific terms in group discussions, while encouraging children to research and experiment on their own.

12.01.2022 It was all smiles during National Dental Health Week at Young Academics Early Learning Centre The children participated in a variety of experiences that promoted oral hygiene and fostered healthy habits. By also building on self-help skills, independence and taking responsibility for their own health, these activities were in alignment with EYLF and our tailored educational programs.

10.01.2022 In our Preschool room, we continue to build on the children’s interest of dinosaurs, providing them with opportunities to explore, investigate and discover many aspects, through sensory and imaginative play as well as creative experiences and meaningful group times.

10.01.2022 Forming healthy habits at Young Academics Early Learning Centre Canterbury As we continue to focus on 'Healthy Eating', we have decided to branch off into the learning avenue of 'Oral Hygiene'. After the preschoolers brainstormed healthy food options for growing teeth, we discussed how we can protect and keep our teeth and mouths clean and strong.

06.01.2022 Multicultural Week at Young Academics Early Learning Centre #Canterbury! Besides being a sensory experience, it also broadens their horizons by fostering an understanding and appreciation for the diversity in our world, and what makes our communities all the more special

05.01.2022 Happy Feet Fitness at Young Academics Early Learning Centre is always a hit! Last week, the session with Miss Beti started with a few stretches, making sure the children were energised and ready for some dancing and learning. One highlight was Miss Beti discussing road safety with the little ones. This included talking about what pedestrians should do when crossing the road, what traffic lights symbolise and how we can stay safe when travelling in a car. ... This learning experience is linked to Early Years Learning Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing and take increasing responsibility for their own health and wellbeing.

03.01.2022 The children in our toddler room have been experimenting with their senses as part of our Young Academics Discovery Program, exploring the human body! The children were able to enlighten their sense of touch, sight and smell through this messy play experience exploring oobleck - a form of slime. The toddlers discussed together how the slime felt and were able to also enhance their language and social skills throughout this experience. Ensuring the children's voices are heard during our learning experiences is super important - here the toddlers were able to select the colours used and the location of the experience, allowing us to explore decision making.

03.01.2022 This is what National Dental Health Week looked like for our Preschoolers Across all classes, our dental-focused activities allowed children to explore different elements of oral hygiene, including what foods are encouraged to be consumed and avoided for healthy teeth, healthy gums and healthy mouths... and let's not forget, big smiles!

03.01.2022 Baby shark, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo... Extending on the children's interest in the song 'Baby Shark', the children were invited to participate in an ocean-themed sensory experience. The children were provided with a tray of yellow dyed coconut (representing the sand), two different tones of blue jelly (representing the ocean) and pictures of different sea animals. They were invited one at a time to sit at the table and to explore the different sensory elements. The children enjoyed playing with the cold jelly and rubbing it between their fingers, as well as exploring the texture of the coconut. This play-based learning experience allows the little ones to explore their senses and ignites creativity.

01.01.2022 The children in our nursery were invited to explore the sensory tray filled with jelly. They were encouraged to grab the different objects - from coloured shapes to Legos and pompoms. Besides exploring different textures, it assisted in furthering their understanding of different colours, objects and shape, and correctly recognising each of them.

01.01.2022 Recently our toddlers have been super interested in using pegs through play experiences, they have also been observing educators hanging washing during the afternoons and asking so many questions. Fostering this interest, we explored our Young Academics Wellbeing program by engaging in a life skill based learning experience, learning how to hang washing on our own! The children were able to explore how to follow specific steps in order to achieve a task, all on their own. Our educators provided the children with the materials needed to complete the task, the toddlers then hypothesised and used trial and error methods to find the best fit solution to hang socks on a line. Throughout this experience we were able to engage our cognitive skills and fine motor skills, all whilst learning a lifelong skill.
