09.01.2022 Dear friends, families and supporters of Young Adelaide Voices It’s no understatement to say that 2020 has been filled with challenges. The restrictions on gatherings necessary to control the spread of COVID-19 caused havoc across Australia’s arts industry, with all performances having to be cancelled for most of the year, and major impacts in our ability to sing, rehearse and perform together. ... Despite these challenges, YAV has found ways to adapt, support each other, and bring as much of the musical experience of singing in choir as we can. We have maintained the focus on what YAV is all about: building a strong community, making high quality music, and transforming young lives through music. Your ongoing support for YAV has helped us through these difficult times. What we have done, what’s coming up YAV has had the opportunity to participate in a number of projects early in the year, including a significant bushfire fundraising concert, but our highlights have included some Covid silver linings, like Zoom rehearsals with pre-eminent English composer Bob Chilcott, 2CC and MVG recordings for ANCA SA’s Southern Stars, and for Aurora’s involvement in creative developments for The Pulse with Gravity and Other Myths, for the Adelaide Festival. An auditioned group from Inters, 2CC and 1CC also make up the Fairy Chorus for Britten’s opera A Midsummer Night’s Dream, also for the 2021 Adelaide Festival. We look forward to picking up our concerts, commissions, and community in 2021. YAV in the North Thanks to the generous support of our Giving Circle members and donors, we have been able to establish a new choir for year 4 students at Elizabeth Vale Primary School this year. The choir has been rehearsing after school on Tuesdays, with on average 15-20 students. Christie and Suri Umapathysivam had a wonderful time working with and getting to know the students in this new program. The COVID restrictions this year have limited rehearsal numbers and our ability to extend to multiple primary schools. But we are proud to have a made a start, and look forward to growing the choir with the addition of some new members starting year 4 next year. We remain committed to our vision to build a high quality YAV in the North and creating opportunities for children from a very diverse range of cultural backgrounds and family circumstances. Staff at the City of Playford share this vision and have been working very hard to help us achieve it. We encourage you to have a look at some of the wonderful photos from this year, on our website: https://youngadelaidevoices.asn.au//yav-north-giving-circ/ Thank you again for your support. On behalf of the staff and the board of YAV, we wish you a safe and festive holiday season and look forward to seeing you in 2021!
