12.01.2022 Sarah, 28, lives at home with her grandparents Margaret and Phillip. Born with Holoprosencephaly, Sarah has been defying the odds from day one! Sarah is described by her loved ones as being social, happy and an incredibly healthy young woman. To keep Sarah at home with her grandparents, the family required an accessible vehicle large enough to accommodate Sarahs wheelchair. Sarah received funding through Youngcares At Home Care grants for a suitable van, allowing her to get out into the community! For Sarah, the car is her life. As guests of MJD Foundation, we were welcomed to meet locals who have Machado-Joseph Disease (MJD). The eye-opening experience demonstrated the importance of the Aboriginal community, country and culture, and taught us ways that Australia can better support them to stay in their homes.
