22.01.2022 Dear Competitor, Earlier this week NSW Health made some update to the Community Sport COVID guidelines, which included ceasing sporting activities that resulted in the mixing of participants and officials from different regions and ceasing any activites that result in overnight stays. NSW Health left it up to each State Sporting Organisation to make the regions for their sport. Equestrian NSW announced on Thursday the regions we are to follow will be the NSW Health Districts... and Young Dressage Association lies within in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District. Unfortunately, our committee, judges, volunteers and members come from 3 different districts, Murrumbidgee, Western NSW & Southern NSW Local Health Districts as well as ACT. With 8 of our committee, a big percentage of our judges and competitors in different districts to the YDA grounds and unable to attend the event we have had to make the sad decision to cancel our August 30th Members Training Day. As these extra restrictions are in place for 6 weeks, we will also have to cancel our September 13th Competition. We are very disappointed as we are sure you are too, but we will plan to have an event early October as well as our November 8th Official Competition, pending COVID restrictions. We hope you will be able to compete at some other clubs’ events before then, it is just a shame about our location within the districts which prevents members who live 15 minutes away from the grounds attending. All competitors will receive a refund of their entry fees less Nominate admin fee. We will ask Nominate to start processing the refunds on Monday but please be patient as I expect they will be working on a lot of cancelled competitions Stay safe and we hope to see you all very soon. Kind regards, Megan Bryant President Young Dressage Association Inc.

20.01.2022 REMINDER STEWARDS. With competition resuming it is important that all stewards (inc. clubs conducting events and people acting as gear checkers) read the Covid Guidelines for Stewards. https://www.dressagensw.equestrian.org.au//2020%20Stewards

20.01.2022 Somewhere in the world, the 2028 Olympic champion is a foal out in a field. He’s ewe-necked, sickle-hocked, downhill and shaggy, with a club foot and a chunk of... mane missing, because his buddy chewed it off. Somewhere in the world, there’s a young horse that everyone says is too short to make it big. In three years, he’ll be jumping the standards, but right now he’s fat and short and no one is paying him any mind. Somewhere in the world there’s a 7-year-old who can’t turn right, and a 10-year-old who has not shown the ability to put more than two one-tempis together without losing it, and a 14-year-old who hasn’t yet reached his peak, and all of them will be at the next Olympic Games. Somewhere else in the world, there’s a rider who is thinking of packing it in. Maybe the bills are getting out of control, or she’s killing herself to get enough help in her own riding development because she’s having to spend all her time riding and teaching to make ends meet and change needs to happen, and she’s wondering if it’s worth it. She’s thinking it’s time to just give up and be a local trainer, to shelve her dreams of international competition. And then she’s going to shake off the doubt, double down, and make a team in the next 15 years. Somewhere in the world, one of the next great team riders is 9 years old and couldn’t tell if she was on the right posting diagonal if her life depended on it. Somewhere in the world there’s a future team rider who just got told that she’ll never make it because she’s too chubby, because she’s too short, because she’s too late. There are horses who will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars that will never amount to anything, and there are horses who will be touted as the Next Big Thing only to be never seen or heard from again, and there are horses who will fly under the radar until suddenly they’re setting the world on fire. There are riders who will win Junior and Young Rider competitions only to quit riding completely, riders who will be touted as the Next Big Thing only to get stuck in their comfort zones and never come to fruition, and there are riders who will make their first Olympic team at 50, at 55, at even older than that. And yes, there are the horses that will be brilliant from day one, and there are the riders for whom success both comes early and stays late. But more often than not, history has shown that the unlikely story, the horse who was passed over in favor of his more expensive stablemate, the rider who no one saw coming, is the more likely path to greatness. 19.01.2022 The 2020 edition of PSI Dressage & Jumping with the Stars has become the latest event cancellation due to Covid-19, with organisers forced to pull the pin due t...o Stage 4 and Stage 3 restrictions across Victoria. The event, originally due to run in March, was rescheduled for 7-10 October however the latest restrictions, which extend until at least the middle of September, posed significant barriers to planning this year’s event. 19.01.2022 Young Dressage Association recently commissioned a memorial for Life Member Win Beer, who passed away in 2017. Win was a tireless worker, participant, and supporter of Young Dressage over many years. As well as being a judge, she was a committee member for many years and spent many days and hours helping with working bees at the grounds as well as organising pencillers for our competitions. The club commissioned a beautiful handmade wooden bench seat, made by Terry Howe of Ha...rden to which a brass plaque has now been attached. The seat has been much admired and will be in use at all our competitions. It is sure to be enjoyed by all who attend as we all remember Win and her contribution to Young Dressage and her enjoyment of our club and our sport over many years. Pictured with the memorial seat are Win's husband, Doug Beer - who has also contributed so much work to our club and grounds - and Vice President Jenny Bryant.

19.01.2022 It has been announced that horses competing in FEI events will no longer be able to have their whiskers shaved from July, 2021. The FEI Online General Assembly,... which took place on 23 November, voted in a range of new rules and regulations - one of which was the banning of trimming a horse’s sensory hairs. The rule, which forms part of the FEI veterinary regulations, will apply to horses across all disciplines competing in FEI events.... 18.01.2022 Horsemanship... What people see vs what they don't see. It's so easy to look at others' social media posts, or see them winning at a show and think 'they are so... perfect...' In reality what we are seeing is their highlight reel. The tip of the iceberg. As horsemen and women we all have challenges to face, no matter how successful we become. But don't we become much better people for it? See more

08.01.2022 TSS FOR HORSE MOVEMENTS Transported Stock Statements (TSS) were introduced by NSW Government Local Land Services in 1990, partly to assist Police to trace stole...n stock. Equestrian NSW has been made aware that enforcement of TSS's, to move horses on public roads, has increased in recent times. Currently, exemptions apply when horses are being transported to or from any agricultural show, exhibition, gymkhana, pony club meeting or similar function. Members feedback is needed about your enforcement experiences, so we can formally apply to have the regulations changed to include more common and low risk movements (eg travelling to get a lesson or exercise your horse). 05.01.2022 DRESSAGE | Simone Pearce Dressage has broken her own Australian Grand Prix record riding the stunning stallion Destano at the CDI3*-W Brno (CZE) with a pheno...menal score of 76.26% It was also the first international victory for the combination. "WOW today was a dream. Destano just gave me the most amazing ride to win the Grandprix here at CDI-W Brno with 76.26%! It’s our first international win and we have smashed our previous personal best score, but above all of that I had the best feeling yet in the arena, I really can’t believe how much he’s improved in the last six months. "I’m just simply proud and so, so thankful to this amazing horse. A big thanks of course to the amazing team making this possible, his owners Gestuet Sprehe, Sabine Rueben my rock Emily Reudavey and of course the world's best trainer Oliver Oelrichs, feeling blessed!" says Simone. Congratulations to Simone, Destano and his owners and the entire team! Full results can be found here: https://zawodykonne.com/zawody/50/live The competition continues tomorrow with the Grand Prix Special. 05.01.2022 You may already know that the Dressage Directory is a great resource for learning dressage tests. It even has versions to go movement by movement through your m...obile phone. But did you know that there are also diagrams of the different arena figures - many of which you won't find in a dressage test, like the four leaf clover!. They provide excellent exercises for riding and coaching. Check them out at http://www.dressage.net.au/australiatests.html Which arena figure are you practicing this weekend? See more

04.01.2022 When it all gets taken away... the competitions, the shows, the ribbons, the pressure, the schedule, the lessons, the comparisons, the plans, the expectations...... 02.01.2022 MOWING MORNING: Tuesday 12th January from 9am. We would love a couple of helpers to assist with mowing and whipper snippering around the arena's (BYO equipment). If you can lend a hand it would be much appreciated. We will hold a larger scale Working Bee before the February Competition, on a weekend, where we will ask all Members available to lend a hand (so don't feel that you will miss out ).

01.01.2022 It's time to hang up the top hat! The FEI’s new rule requiring Dressage athletes to wear protective headgear at all times at FEI events will be enforced from 1s...t January 2021. The FEI’s commitment to upholding the rule which was voted in at the FEI Generally Assembly 2019 was evident this week, when the FEI Board officially declined a petition to discuss maintaining the option for riders to wear top hats in senior international competitions at the 2020 FEI General Assembly... 01.01.2022 Para | Although our Para-Equestrian riders are not currently in Tokyo competiting at the Paralympic Games they have decided to reflect on what might have been b...y dressing in their competition attire and riding their Tokyo tests at home. Amelia White Equestrian, who is based in Germany, and her striking Genius 60 looked all class as they took to the arena. "It was great to prepare as if we were at the Games! I have been lucky enough in Germany to commence some open competitions over the last few weeks, and so the competition gear was not too dusty. But honestly, I really started to prepare Genius like I would have for the Games. I plaited him at home, started my show rituals and I felt a little nervous actually! "We warmed up in our indoor like I would at a show; my groom was there helping and then when I was ready we went outside to the 'competition' arena and really rode the test like we were in Tokyo! I had the support of the stable, and a few of the workers even cheered when we finished. "To some, maybe it seems a bit silly but for us all - including my groom and support team from afar - I think it gave us all a nice feeling. In one way, I compared the test video to only a few months ago and we could really see how far we have both come. I think this was also important as it shows we are on the right way " explains Amelia. #Para #Dressage #TowardsTokyo #AusEquestrianTeam #Tokyo2020 #HighPerformance Australian Paralympic Team
