17.01.2022 Great news to access the National Archives in England during this time.

14.01.2022 Every year on the 1st of January, hundreds of records are made public as part of our annual Section 9 openings. Under Section 9 of the Public Records Act 1973, ...files of a personal or private nature are closed to prevent the violation of personal privacy. Some of the stories you will find amongst this year’s records include the 1945 capital sentence file of 19-year-old Kevin Joiner, the criminal trial brief for what is often considered to be Victoria's 1st mafia murder, and a 1921 extern case book containing handwritten entries by Royal Women's Hospital midwifery interns. Take a look: https://prov.vic.gov.au//infamous-prison-escapee-and-first

11.01.2022 Hi, thanks for accepting me as a member. Was reaching out for help with my research of a photo. I'm trying to establish the origin, as i don't know if he is Aus...tralian, American or maybe from England, and also the era the photo was taken. Some factors that could help, would be the gentleman's clothing, (especially the hat), the gun, the fact the negative was taken on sheet film, and the type of camera that would have taken this photo. These, plus other factors that experts might use, could help me in my research. Maybe, someone might recognise him. All I have to go on, is that I picked up the negative at a jumble sale in Kiama, and that the negative is approx 6 x 9cm in size. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ralph Murdaca See more

10.01.2022 $17,000 MICROFILM READER-PRINTER It’s a fancy bit of kit, but worth every penny with the Young and District Family History Group Inc now able to enjoy the b...enefits of this specialised, game changing piece of equipment. Thanks to Emma Coburn and founding member Margaret Hall, I’ve seen first hand how this newly arrived $17,000 machine, thanks to the NSW Government, has transformed the way people can do their family history research. The group was incredibly worthy of the grant they received - they help bring our local history to life, and their new equipment will benefit the entire Young community. I’m so pleased for President Carmel Price, Emma, Margaret, Kaye and the team who will now be able to more easily help people from around the corner and around the globe find the local records they are after, dating back to the 1850’s. Well done everyone! It was wonderful to see your new reader in action! Sx Anyone looking to get in touch can email [email protected] or ring 63824050 for more information.

10.01.2022 Today Mark Speakman and I announced historic reform that will give an important choice back to children that have been adopted and lift the veil of secrecy even further. This announcement builds on our nation-leading reforms to adoption processes in NSW.

10.01.2022 Another photo that needs identification, could it be again connected to the Tunney Family ?

03.01.2022 We have just started loading some newly digitised archives to our catalogue from the early 19th century. These records relate to Aboriginal people and cover the... dates 1832-1835 and 1837-1844. The records are ‘blanket returns’ which are lists of Aboriginal people who received blankets from the colonial authorities. The records are broadly arranged by locality and include both Indigenous and European names for each person as well as their age. These record series are, and always have been, an incredibly valuable source for people tracing family and personal history. http://ow.ly/KRtZ50Cijs9 #NAIDOCweek2020
