24.01.2022 Steves Clubsport Tourer back in for some more Harrop Engineering parts. This time we are fitting up the Pro-Extreme exhaust system. Car now has a deep idle note to match the H02 camshaft we fitted some time ago and is still quiet enough to cruise in top gear with out any annoying drone.

21.01.2022 A couple of jobs in on Friday, first we had Sams 2014 SS-V wagon in for a speedo calibration after he had a set of 3.7 diff gears fitted, then we had Marks 2017 SS-V sedan in for an OTR and tune upgrade.
21.01.2022 Harrop Engineering have just announced a nice upgrade to the FDFI superchargers. A fully integrated 110mm throttle body to suit the 2300 and 2650 superchargers for high horse power builds where existing throttle bodies cant flow enough. This 110mm throttle body cover is an integrated throttle, ETC motor and supercharger cover which replaces the standard inlet cover and GM 90mm, or aftermarket throttle commonly used on Harrop FDFI Superchargers This front cover will fit dire...ctly to the 2300/2650, using a varying trajectory throttle bore helps achieve small throttle opening/airflow progression while also opening up fully to 110mm. This current setup using a LS3 style throttle motor and connector. A cable variant is being developed and assessed. See more
20.01.2022 Steves VE SS getting boosted with the Harrop Engineering FDFI2300. Having already done a VCM7 cam sometime ago the next step was boost. Two dyno runs in and it was discovered that the factory fuel pump wasnt up to task, so we fitted the ZL1 pump upgrade to solve that issue. Back to the dyno to finish the calibration saw a 35% gain in peak power and an almost 40% gain in torque. The cars base figures of 402hp/300kw and 347Ftlb/472NM were replaced with 546hp/407kw and 473FtLB/641NM

19.01.2022 GM V8 that makes 864kW - What would you put this into??? US engine builder Katech released their new LT5 track attack crate engine earlier this month which makes 864kW (thats 1159 horsepower in old money), and 1441Nm. For the Track Attack, you can choose between two different blowers to sit atop the V8 a Magnuson TBVS 2560 supercharger, or a CNC-ported unit of Katechs own design.... Displacement increases to 6.4-litres, while compression has also gone up from 10.1:1, to 10.3:1. Also helping turn fuel into sweet, sweet horsepower are Diamond Pistons and Competition Valves. 18.01.2022 If the prospect of a powerhouse rear-drive, V8 sedan with a stick and three pedals has your interested piqued, then HSV could well deliver exactly that. Just not in the short term. Cadillacs CT5-V Blackwing has some engineering thatll certainly have a familiar ring with traditional Holden customers. A 6.2-litre supercharged V8 lump and a six-speed manual transmission is a mouth-watering combo. When thats marshalling some 484kW, its time to get stoked. You may know this ...engine from the Camaro ZL1. They look exciting, admitted HSVs Chris Polites of the Blackwing models, clearly having to bite his tongue. Thats all I can really say about them at this point in time. Theyre not in our immediate term plans, he explained. We just launched the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 today so thatll keep us busy for the short term. The Blackwing version of the CT5-V is set to rival the Mercedes-AMG C63 and the BMW M3 and will be offered in the US with a choice of six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmissions. Rather confusingly, there was a 410kW 4.2-litre twin-turbo V8 Blackwing engine developed by Cadillac for this car, but thats purportedly not going into the flagship performance model Post VFII Commodore, these two cars would appear to make a good fit for HSV. The company has earned its spurs with the mothership back in Detroit due to the quality of its re-engineering work with right-hand drive Camaro. As HSV morphs into GM Specialty Vehicles, its hard to think of two cars that better exemplify that title. We might well have to wait, but delayed gratification only makes whats to come that much sweeter.

11.01.2022 How a Holden ute was used by GM as a C8 Corvette mule!!! Theres irony, and theres a sad irony. The fact that Chevrolet has rolled out Blackjack, the mutated lovechild of a Corvette C7 and a Holden VE ute, at the C8 launch in the US this weekend, is definitely the latter. Blackjack is an intriguing card game of skill and chance. A rather apt name, then, for the Holden ute testing mule that helped spawn the most radical rethink in Corvette history. Built using a VE Holden SS...-V ute well, parts of one Blackjack was created in 2013 to help GM wrap its head around how to engineer a mid-engined performance car. The result is arguably the coolest Holden ute ever created. Stretched, flexed and bewinged, its V8 engine is housed in an extended tray and those flared arches concealed wider tracks. The fuel filler has been moved to the B-pillar. The cab-section is from a C7 Corvette (the Holden nose and rear end were simply grafted on) and inside, Blackjacks cabin is test-mule crude. Although Blackjack still retained a functioning wiper, taillights, a horn and a working demister you know, to be street legal. Beyond acting as an early test bed for the powertrain, Blackjacks key role was in developing the Corvettes new aluminium structure and the set-up of its multi-link rear suspension. Born almost seven years ago, the cost to make Blackjack is almost impossible to estimate. The rails and engine mounts, for example, were CNC-milled from huge blocks of aluminium, and the data recording equipment it carries in its Spartan cabin is worth millions.Underneath the glossy black paint, CNC-milled aluminium rails and mounts allowed engineers to fit a GM V8 but Blackjack wasnt designed to test engines or transmissions. Its function was to test the basics of the chassis layout; suspension hard points, engine location, centre of gravity and the like. Besides the relocation of the engine from in front to behind the driver, the C8 also runs conventional coil spring-based suspension, rather than the oddball composite transverse components fitted to the C7. It lived a life of secrecy, too, hidden away in a swipecard-protected warehouse in Warren, Michigan, while its drive team could stop the car, whip out a tarpaulin and cover the car in about five seconds in case an errant snapper was lurking nearby.Its remarkable that the mule has survived so long. Engineers by nature are not especially sentimental, and Blackjacks job as platform verification prototype was pretty demanding. Once the job is done, a mule is usually sent to the crusher, living only as petabytes of data in an engineering database.

08.01.2022 Tell us what you think. Would you pay $114K for a big hunk of American-sourced pick-up? Interest in American-sourced pick-ups is growing and Aussie buyers are willing to pay for it. Pricing for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ Premium Edition launched in March has been detailed, with the single variant coming in at $113,990 as long as you opt for Summit White paint. All other colours are an additional $1250. Included in that price is the cost of converting the Silverado... to right-hand drive, which is carried out by HSV in Clayton, Melbourne. The initial batch of converted American pick-ups is due to land in HSV dealerships by April 20. According to HSV there is strong interest in the vehicle, with dealers already holding orders. The company says demand has increased since the Government announced its changes to tax treatment for vehicle purchases, which ends June 30. So what do you get under the, ahem, hood for your $113,990? The Silverado 1500 LTZ Premium Edition is endowed with a 6.2-litre V8 petrol engine producing 313kW and a substantial 624Nm. The EcoTech3 bent-eight comes with cylinder deactivation and returns a combined fuel consumption figure of 12.3L/100km. To put the $113,990 figure into perspective, the Ram 1500 starts at $99,950 and punches out 291kW/556Nm from its petrol V8. The twin-turbo diesel four-cylinder Ford Ranger Raptor serves up 157kW/500Nm via its 2.0-litre donk from $76,490, and the $72,790 Volkswagen Amarok Ultimate 580 offers 165kW/550 from its 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel. Despite tipping the scales at 2588kg the 1500 shifts, with the 10-speed auto offering smooth and intuitive responses. Power is sent to all four wheels, and there is also a two-speed transfer case and a heavy duty locking rear diff. HSV is offering upgrades to the Silverado 1500. There are between 30 and 40 accessories you can ask to be fitted to make your LTZ look even tougher, but performance isnt being overlooked. An air intake and a 3.5-inch exhaust system will up the outputs by 9kW and 10Nm. HSV is also working on its own bespoke suspension set-up, but its yet to be signed off. However, buyers in this market want towing capacity and the Silverado doesnt disappoint with a braked towing capacity of 4500kg. The gross combined mass is 7160kg and the maximum payload is 712kg. Safe to say that while the 1500 might be the smallest in the range, its still very capable.
