20.01.2022 "Do not be silent. Tell your stories. Stories are powerful." Ina May Gaskin What is your birth story?

19.01.2022 What does research tell us about upright labor and birth? . According to the Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth Group, a respected international organizatio...n that defines best practices based on research, the use of any upright or side-lying position, compared with supine or lithotomy positions (lying on back, legs supported by stirrups), is associated with the following results: shorter second stage of labor; a small reduction in vacuum or forceps-assisted birth; fewer episiotomies; less chance that the woman will report severe pain; fewer abnormal fetal heart rate patterns; a small increase in second-degree lacerations (in the upright group only); and an increase in estimated blood loss, although there was no evidence of serious or long-term problems from the extra blood loss (Gupta, Hofmeyr, & Smyth, 2004). Upright and gravity-neutral positions are safe during pushing and are often more comfortable than lying on your back. Following your own urge to push is less stressful for your baby than directed pushing. Pushing when and how your natural urge tells you to gives you the best chance of preventing tears and muscle weakness in your pelvis after the birth. : @breedownes_doula_photographer on IG -Reposted fromHome Sweet Homebirth

10.01.2022 2016 the year I started and the reason that I have such a passion for photographing strong beautiful birthing women. 29/11/2016 Logan My first baby boy, Bec and Brad worked so well together to bring Logan earthside.

09.01.2022 I asked a few mamas tonight about their experience with me and birth photography I am so humbled and will share shortly.

09.01.2022 After having my first son Phoenix, I realised how fast you forget labour and the birth and I wished I could remember more or have more photos so I decided then I definitely wanted birth photographer for our second. I chose you Gerry after a Google search your pages and prices looked great, and then you were always fast to respond to messages and when we met for coffee you were great and I could really feel your passion for birth photography Daniel agreed we needed photos for... me to remember better this time and fully supported the idea, he was thrilled afterwards to hear you stayed a while post birth for more photos and family meeting him We looked through our photos on Parker's first birthday and I enjoy going back through them at times Yes would definitely do it again!! Beautiful comments by Karley Gelston

08.01.2022 Happy new year! I’m offering one mum to be the gift of birth photography. My absolute passion is to support birthing women. Birth photography is a unique beautiful way to have those memories of support, love and bubs first moments captured forever. Birth photography is not about crowning and images you would prefer not to see, it’s your birth, your baby and your choice. ... It’s about the moments your partner holds and supports you through one of the hardest things you have done. It’s about the moment you hear and see your baby for the first time and know from that point unconditional love. In addition I support you from the day we meet and all through your pregnancy and birth. Do you know a mum to be? Tag her If you would love to enter, please do the following. Essential birth valued at $500. 1. Let me know your due date. 2. Like this post. 3. Share with pregnant mamas. For births jan-sep 2021, drawn 20/1/21 This post/promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administrated by, or associated with, Facebook. Not redeemable for cash, not transferable.

08.01.2022 Here are the basics: cervical checks are done to gage labour progress by sticking two fingers into the vagina to see how open the cervix is. They are consid...ered standard of care and, by many, are considered the be-it-and-end-all in terms of measuring progress. But they are NOT an exact science. More like an educated guess that can vary between care providers. Due to an increased chance of introducing bacteria into the vaginal canal, there are limits to the number of times cervical checks can/should be performed in X number of hours (that number may vary between care provider). You CAN refuse any or ALL cervical checks. This will likely take some self-advocacy. If this is your wish, put it on your birth plan + tell your CP ahead of time. Expect some pushback, depending on provider. Cervical checks can be a real buzzkill if the number isn't what we hoped. Ask yourself: what do I want to gain from this info? Is it med options? Then yes, it's worth knowing. Is it just because you're feeling tired and you want to know how much longer of "this" you have left? The cervical check won't change how much longer you have left. If it is a timeline you're fishing for, you might be barking up the wrong tree with a cervical check. Dilation can be slow for a bit. Then speed up. And repeat. It really doesn't do a good job painting a picture of how much longer we have left. It might just create a false narrative. . Be honest. If you think you might feel disheartened if the number isn't what you expected, think twice about it. Or tell your CP not to say the number outloud. It's 110% possible to give birth without a single cervical check (and many do!) By just observing the birther, a skilled care provider (+ doula) will be able to gauge which stage of labour the birther is in. - Reposted from The Birth Hive

07.01.2022 Reports for 2018 have been released. I’m shocked that we have 46.6% induced births of selected women (low risk)

03.01.2022 Thank you Monique Lown this fills my heart. Why birth photography? It has been something I always wanted done with all my babies, but its a memory that we are able to keep with us for the rest of our lives, something no one else can really give us.... Why Gerry? I was actually added to your group I believe as I was talking to other mums how I really wanted it done and you had a competition going and I won. Once I got to meet you, I new straight away it was you that I wanted there to photograph a special empowering moment in my life for us, as Because even tho I won i was still nervous about it all but you made me feel so comfortable. Your a kind lovely person. Very caring. How did Hubby feel before and after? When I told Jack I had won a birth photography competition to photograph the birth of our son he was so over the moon. Afterwards he was soo happy with the photos. we get so emotional (happy tears) when we look back on the photos. Do you still love looking at your photos? Yes absolutely YES! I still look at them on a daily basis! Something I never had with my last 3 babies and wished I did, Because I don't have many to look back on with them where as I do with Hudson. Would you do it again? Most definitely. I think all mums should look into getting them done, even if its not the actual birth but fresh photos of their new little baby.

03.01.2022 thank you Tarsha Kock Why birth photography... Well I never got to see any of my previous children born so it was a great chance for that along with the memories. Why Gerry. Where do I start? She just makes you feel so at home and so relaxed it's like she's always been around. And is also a great contribution to your support team as she looked after me as well as doing the photos ... Hubby wasn't too sure on it but said it was my choice but is now soooo glad we did it. Do you still love looking at your photos.... YESSS at least every month I go back through them and relive it as my little girl grows. It's an amazing memory to have. Would I do it again . If I was going to have anymore yes but I'm not haha I do highly recommend it for people to do though X

02.01.2022 Beautiful words from Ashlea Costello I wanted to make the birth something to look forward to and look back on after having separated from the children’s father. I chose Gerry as she was kind and warm, someone I instantly felt a connection with and also felt comfortable. ... I feel fantastic having done them, having the memories of the room full of women and feeling so empowered is something I will never forget and something I can now enjoy looking back on through the gorgeous photos.
