13.01.2022 Yes, so much this. I remember all 3 times of birthing my babies, being in a very altered state, and not even comprehending that they had left my body. Part of me felt that sweet release, but the other part was somewhere else.

11.01.2022 Witnessing your child coming into the world and your partner giving birth, can be a very challenging and emotional experience.
11.01.2022 Some of us on remote learning could really do with hearing this today.
10.01.2022 Celebrating all the mum bodies. Our bodies go through so much to grow and feed our babies.

10.01.2022 Wow!! What a gift.
09.01.2022 As someone who used to offer Hypnobirthing I can only agree. Some useful tools, but definitely can set women up to feel like they didn't nail it, and increase disappointment and trauma.
09.01.2022 Sharing wise words from my mentor and friend Pam England. #pamengland #ancientmapformodernbirth #birthstorymedicine
09.01.2022 Today is the beginning of World Breastfeeding Week, a week of celebration for every woman who has ever given her baby so much as a drop of liquid from her breas...ts. I am so incredibly aware of how emotionally charged this week can be though. You see when 96% of women want to do something that they deem as important, and expect it to happen, yet for one or more reasons, most frequently a lack of support or poor advice, only around 15% of women manage to do so for a short time frame. If this percentage was related to walking, wed all be appalled. If this percentage was related to mens health, funding and an answer would be sought ASAP. However, because its about breastfeeding and because theres an alternative way to feed your baby, women far too often are told Its fine, All that matters is your baby is fed, Not everyone can breastfeed, Now your partner can help, or Your lucky. For some women, they cope well with the change from breastfeeding. However others dont. Many others dont. It causes a level of guilt, grief and trauma as women process the fact that they didnt get to not only feed their babies how they anticipated they would, but that their bodies didnt function as they should, they werent supported for their bodies to function as expected, they grieved the way they expected to mother and nurture their child, how they pictured their relationship with their baby was no longer the same. This isnt everyone but there are many women who suppress these emotions because if they dared to be open and honest, they wont hear Im sorry you werent supported to feed your baby as you expected to. That sounds so hard. How are you going?, theyll hear Well arent you lucky you can feed your baby another way. So in light of World Breastfeeding Week I want every mama to know that its not about judgement, its not about guilt or shame. I know ever mama does the best she can with what she has at the time. I am unequivocally sorry if you didnt receive the support you needed to meet your own goals. You arent alone in your emotions and every single one of them is valid. You deserved more than what you received. So I celebrate you and every other mama who gave to her baby with the sincerest heart and the best she could. You are incredible. Let this be an opportunity to unite in one voice and say this isnt good enough. Professional lactation support is an essential service. You deserve to be supported to feed your baby however you want. Your body should be supported to work as it was designed to function. Anything less is a chop from your rights.
