23.01.2022 What happens to our brains when we exercise? We know that exercise has benefits for all sorts of reasons and has been shown to help with diabetes, depression, Alzheimers and everyday well being but how does exercise make us feel good and help release the feel good endorphins in the brain? Well... when we exercise the Brain perceives that the body and brain are under stress and to help protect the brain a protein is released called BDNF Brain derived neurotrophic factor as well as endorphins. Endorphins, make us feel euphoric, minimise pain and the discomfort of exercise. In the last post I talked about skiing and absolute feeling of euphoria that is hard to describe. So get exercising in anyway you can and see how you feel. Its got to do you good. Angie YDE

21.01.2022 A very interesting week. So much diabetes up here in Halls Creek. I am working with the Halls Creek Supermarket as they are interested in helping people eat more healthily. So posters going up this week showing how many teaspoons of sugar are in soft drinks. A good start.
19.01.2022 Scientists have developed the first ultra-thin, flexible device that sticks to skin like a rub-on tattoo and can detect a persons glucose levels. The sensor, reported in a proof-of-concept study in the ACS journal Analytical Chemistry, has the potential to eliminate finger-pricking for many people with diabetes.

17.01.2022 1922 The scientists went to a hospital ward with diabetic children, most of them comatose and dying from diabetic keto-acidosis. This is known as one of medicin...es most incredible moments. Imagine a room full of parents sitting at the bedside waiting for the inevitable death of their child. The scientists went from bed-to-bed and injected the children with the new purified extract - insulin. As they began to inject the last comatose child, the first child injected began to awaken. Then one by one, all the children awoke from their diabetic comas. A room of death and gloom, became a place of joy and hope. Photo Credits- Library and Archives Canada See more
14.01.2022 Changing your mindset makes all the difference. It takes about six months to change a behaviour. You need to make yourself exercise everyday. You know you have changed a behavior the day you dont do it and miss it
10.01.2022 Skiing Hi everyone, I am away skiing and what a sensational 2 weeks it has been for my well being and my fitness. While America has an obesity problem and its very hard to find food that does not have added sugar or fructose, obesity doesnt seem to be a problem in the ski fields. You need to be fit to ski and many skiers are exercise enthusiasts all year round. If you learn to ski young and love doing it you will be motivated to stay fit. Even though I wasnt hugely fit w...hen I arrived and had whole of body ache after the first day, I feel great 2 weeks later. its an effort getting dressed and clomping in boots to and from the home base (unless you get a ski in, ski out apartment ) and then skiing about 6 hours but you feel so good at the end of it. Thats 6 hours of constant exercise. Skiing is also about pushing yourself to achieve and at the end of the day you feel euphoric and gloriously exhausted. The ski fields are a very positive place and it doesnt matter where you come from, everyone chats on the lifts and help if you fall or are lost. I cant think of a better healthier friendly holiday where you go home having achieved and maybe lost some kilos in the journey. See more

08.01.2022 Actually, I have found a great way with carrotts. Slice 100g carrots (about 2) slice thinly and dry in oven for 45 mins at about 180 degrees. Once dry and crispy sprinkle with cinnamon. A great low calorie snack. No fat.
