23.01.2022 Are you organising an event and wishing you had a checklist that was actually useful? I.e. gave more guidance than 'pick a venue'? Or perhaps you're resposibile for choosing a supplier and don't know what to ask or check for? Have a look at the checklists & templates I've created - https://youreventcoach.com.au/checklists-2/ ... Better yet, get all three in PDF and Word, so you can brand & edit them to use as your own!

21.01.2022 Thinking of arranging your own flowers for your wedding or event? A lot of money can be saved in arranging your own flowers, just don’t underestimate what a big job it can be. Having arranged flowers for a number of weddings & events, including my own, here are my tips if you’re considering giving it a go!... Expect to pay anything between $300-$500 for enough flowers, bought from the market. Take cash! Prepare to get the markets by 6am and bring a trolley! Best days to go are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You’ll need to give yourself the day prior to purchase, prepare and store the flowers. This is where you may save money, but not time! I love this step but others may find it overwhelming you can spend anywhere from 8-12hrs on this, depending on the size of your event. Check that the flowers you want are actually in season. You won’t get beautiful peonies in April! Have a think about the style of bouquet/arrangement you want and be honest if you have the skill & patience to make it. Maybe research some less formal options if not. Make sure you have a list of everything you need to make bouquets, button-holes, centre-pieces, flower crowns. Have the extra supplies on hand to arrange - green floral tape, wire, sharp scissors, stem strippers, string, vases. Don’t put the ribbon/string on your bouquets & button holes till the day otherwise they will get wet in the water you store them in! Finally, have fun with it! Arranging your own flowers can be a really rewarding job and a great way to take a breath and have fun with friends and family. Although if you hate the idea of early mornings, rose thorns & fiddly work maybe consider a florist!

10.01.2022 Restaurant or in-home caterers? If you're planning a big celebration, you may be weighing up going to a restaurant versus having caterers cook in your home. Choosing a Restaurant... Arrive with the room & table set & ready for your guest arrivals You can be assured that the food will be tasty & timely (venue pending!) Provide any dietary requirements to the restaurant to cater for Don't need to worry about cleaning the entire house or making sure you have enough bathroom(s)! No cleaning up or dishes to worry about once your guests leave All glassware, crockery, cutlery & linen will be provided by the restaurant You may be restricted on what menu items you can choose, including beverages There may be additional fees for cakeage (cutting & serving of your cake) Set arrival & departure time for you & your guests You'll likely be sharing the restaurant with other diners Often impractical or difficult to have & entertain young children Choosing Caterers Full flexibility over the menu and how the food is served Specify when your event will start/finish - giving your guests greater flexibility to attend & kick on Beverages can be supplied by you or BYO by your guests, helping you monitor your expenses Hosting your guests in your home often means a more relaxed & private event Young children can be catered for & entertained more easily Unless your cater can provide, you may need to hire additional glassware, crockery, cutlery, linen Depending on the style of food service you want, you might need to hire additional service staff Your caterer may not provide a full clean-up & rubbish removal service (they should, so check!) You likely have the added stress of cleaning & decorating the house on the day of your event Your caterer may be restricted on what menu they can provide, based on your kitchen set-up & appliances I love hosting events at home and planning all the details and I also love finding great venues where I don't need to worry about all of the logistics. Choose the best option for the type of event & feel you want.

04.01.2022 Organising a fundraising event? There are some keys things you should look at, to ensure your event not only raises as much funding as possible but is safe and legal! Media: Make sure everyone knows about your event! Approach local outlets like The Leader, create a Facebook event and print out flyers for local cafes/shops to display. Don't rely on word of mouth alone. ... Tickets: Are you selling tickets? There are numerous platforms you can use which are free or take a small processing fee. Check out this handy list of options from Event Birdie https://bit.ly/2v4DHiu Rides/Entertainment: Make sure you secure reputable suppliers/vendors for your entertainment or rides. Have proper contracts in place and ensure anyone operating equipment has the appropriate qualifications & safety checks. MC: Hosting a school dinner or trivia night? Getting a good MC is a must. A quality MC will ensure everyone is having a good time and more importantly, will spend more $$. Don't skimp on your expenses by getting uncle Bob to do the trivia. Food: Make sure you plan adequately for the amount of food & drinks you need. Countless public events hit the news because queues are too long and food has run out. An experienced and reputable caterer will do the math and advise you. Creating & selling good food packages can help you earn more money! Alcohol & games: These are a great tool to raise funds! Check that you have the appropriate license for the boozy auction dinner or casino night you're planning. With a huge focus from the NSW Government on events, festivals and safety - make sure you're covered. Check out which license you might need here: bit.ly/2PdOlgs Risk Assessment: No, these are not just for construction sites. Make sure your event is safe & protected and you are well prepared with an event-specific risk assessment. Need a template? bit.ly/2ImpW7v Venue: Is your venue or location safe and accessible? Can prams or wheelchairs get around easily? Are there enough toilets or parking spots available? Get a comprehensive checklist here: bit.ly/2ImpW7v If you want to keep costs low by organising the event yourself, but get some professional advice on key steps & processes, PM or email me for more details. youreventcoach.com.au/contact/

03.01.2022 Who is Your Event Coach? Having worked in the events industry for over a decade, I have planned conferences, exhibitions, film-premiers, gala events, sporting days and private celebrations including weddings & parties. I love offering advice to people who rarely or never organise events, because I understand just how daunting & time-consuming it can be. Organisations, not-for-profits and associations often have the workforce and skill to plan and manage their own events, however need short-term coaching on key processes, templates, suppliers and strategies. This is where I come in!

01.01.2022 Ever organised or worked on an exhibition booth for your work/company? I've seen so many exhibitors waste their money, put zero effort into their attendance, then complain they had low sales. These are some of my tips to make the most of your exhibition:... Have a plan for what promotional material/AV/signage you'll have - a plain booth is a boring booth. Likewise, don't fill your booth with so many posters that you can't work out at a glance what you're selling. Its overwhelming and people will walk past. Think logically about your furniture. If you want people to come in and talk to you, don't block the entrance with a big trestle table. Make sure the staff who have working want to be there! Don't expect people to come up to you if you're head down, checking emails. If you can, choose a booth location near food, seating or other popular exhibitors. Avoid ones that face a wall. Have snacks or treats! People love giveaways and food is always a popular option, whether it be confectionery, coffee or juices. If you want some help planning your booth or designing an exhibition, give me a shout! Www.youreventcoach.com.au
