25.01.2022 How to store our family heirlooms and records is always a challenge. Listen to this FindMyPast recording for some tips and tricks. :-)

22.01.2022 Something different to try from Ancestry.com. :-)

22.01.2022 MyHeritage has free access to its 57 immigration and travel record collections until 28 June 2021. https://blog.myheritage.com//journey-to-the-past-with-fr/

20.01.2022 While we certainly feel for our fellow researchers in London following the announcement of new COVID restrictions, it probably means continued free access to their online records for those of us who can't visit anyway due to the tyranny of distance. Thank you National Archives.

20.01.2022 My Heritage is offering free access to its In Colour and Enhance Photo features between now and 10 September 2020. This is a great freebie if, like me, you like messing with your old photos and documents. For further details see my blog post. https://www.yourfamilygenealogist.com//My-Heritage-Enhance

19.01.2022 How is this for an interesting statistic from the UK's National Archives? I love to see the neat and tidy shelving units though. I wonder what they contain? Maps perhaps?

19.01.2022 One of my favourite Findmypast record sets is the Royal Household Staff 1526-1924. I updated my blog post on this topic from 2018. I suggest you read it at https://www.yourfamilygenealogist.com//british-royal-house then check in the Findmypast database if you had any ancestors who served royalty. :-) #friendsoffindmypast

18.01.2022 I love this vignette about the wonderful domed reading room at the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne. Well worth a minute of your time IMHO. :-)

16.01.2022 This week's big news is that RootsTech 2021 (the world's biggest genealogy conference) will be totally online and FREE!!! For more details including where to register for the virtual 3 day conference see my latest blog post: :-) https://www.yourfamilygenealogist.com//RootsTech-2021---To

15.01.2022 Tips on breaking through a brick wall are always welcome. My favourite in this list is No 3. Try Name variants. And don't forget to use wildcards. I recently found a missing family for a client through the use of a wildcard. Their name had been mistranscribed as Aonsling instead of Aousling. Checking the original image of the record I could see it was definitely the family I was after. :-) https://www.findmypast.com.au//help/family-history-brick-w #friendsoffindmypast

12.01.2022 I love this composite photo. :-)

11.01.2022 If you can't wait for the new series to arrive in your locality, then dont' fret. You can usually find Who Do You Think You Are? episodes on YouTube. :-)

08.01.2022 Loads of new English Catholic parish records at Findmypast this week. Parishes include Birmingham, Middlesborough and Westminster. I'm also excited to see their newly-released WW1 Soldiers’ Medical Records. :-) #FriendsofFindmypast #yourfamilygenealogist

07.01.2022 Wow! What a great story. Worth a minute of your time to read it if you haven't already heard about it. :-)

07.01.2022 See my comment in the previous post about this Findmypast dataset. :-) #friendsoffindmypast

05.01.2022 A very useful roundup of marriage records to be found on Findmypast. :-) #friendsoffindmypast

05.01.2022 Just a reminder that digital records which normally incur a cost are still free to download at the UK National Archives while they have restricted access to their research and reading rooms at Kew.

04.01.2022 If, like me, you're attending the world's biggest genealogy conference, RootsTech 2021 from 25-27 February, you will be interested in the Schedule which is now available to download. It's not too late to register and don't forget this year it's 100% virtual and free! For more info including where to register & download the schedule, read my very short blog post. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. :-) https://www.yourfamilygenealogist.com//rootstech-2021-the-

02.01.2022 Good to see the daily Last Post ceremony has returned to the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium. Lest we forget.

02.01.2022 Lest we forget.

02.01.2022 Good news story for the day. If you have family/ancestors from the Isle of Mann, this should be in your family history research toolkit. :-)

01.01.2022 What have you done this year during Family History Month? I've spent much of it decyphering old wills from the early-mid 1600s. It's been a challenge to say the least, but it's been very rewarding resulting in me smashing through a couple of brick walls for clients. It's not too late to look at some new resources. I recommend taking a look at some of PROV's material. In my experience, they are one of the better State record offices in Australia when it comes to accessing Family History records. See their FB post below. :-)

01.01.2022 The National Library of Australia has scheduled a free webinar on 14 October which is probably worth watching on the Australian Joint Copying Project (AJCP) records. Anyone who has British or Irish ancestors (including convicts) in their Australian heritage in the 1700-1800s should have these records in their sights. The NLA has been digitizing this amazing collection for some time and they are now available online (and free). To register for the webinar click on: https://us02web.zoom.us//register/WN_m6fXv19PQiWB-mPaaM7wNw :-)

01.01.2022 There's a load of new Irish court records, some Scottish census records as well as British and Irish newspapers just released today as part of Findmypast Friday. I can't wait to check them out. https://www.findmypast.com.au/blog/new/irish-bill-books
