17.01.2022 The vegetable that our delightful volunteer Pavani is brandishing is called kangkung, or Chinese water spinach. Often found growing in swampy marshy places, kangkung is one of those funky vitamin packed veggies that do all your usual cancer prevention and eyesight improving stuff. A humble vegetable, it is the subject of folksongs in Malaysia encouraging honsty and humility, and it is considered uncouth to serve it to esteemed guests in Indonesia. 14.01.2022 To all our Food Co-op Family and Friends, while it was a sad decision it was also an easy and necessary decision: in response to COVID-19, the food-coop will no longer be open and serving food, as of tomorrow. We love our little community and were just getting started for this coming semester with many plans, a lot of old and new faces behind the counter and at our dining table and it breaks our heart that in times of crisis we won’t be able to provide a welcoming space to al...l of you. But we also believe that as a community we need to protect the most vulnerable members of society and that it is our responsibility to take all necessary precautions in order to stop spreading the virus further. We might be closing our kitchen for a while, but we are currently assessing whether we can continue providing our range of bulk food products, and will keep you updated on potential opening hours. Tomorrow’s collective meeting is still going to take place with lots of things to discuss, going forward. For anyone interested, we’ll be on Concrete Lawn outside of Union House from 2.15pm onwards. Feel free to come along, or shoot us a message and we will happily provide phone access so people in self-isolation can still attend. Let’s stay connected, watch this page for any news on upcoming (digital?) events, meetings and an update on when we will be open again to welcome you for our beloved chai. 09.01.2022 Even though our doors have closed during this time, we still stand strong with our community and are so excited to have worked with the Rapid Action Taskforce Against COVID-19! There are 170 Wellbeing Packs stocked with staple foods and easy to cook meals too. Additionally, there are 45 Menstrual Health Packs for those who are in need. It is community solidarity, kindness, and support that will get us through these difficult times, not hoarding and creating a false scarcity. ... All of this will be distributed via the Information Desk at Union House. If you have accessibility issues please feel free to contact the relevant department (disabilities, queer, or international), so we can make sure you're looked after.
