14.01.2022 Government funded flu vaccines have arrived. We received 1000 government flu vaccines (600 for those over 65 years, 200 for ages 6 months to under 5 years and 200 for ages 5 - 64 years). We have flu clinics scheduled during the week at all practice locations. We have Saturday and Sunday flu clinics at YourGP@Crace to provide a low risk environment. Please only come in for a flu vaccine if you do not have any cold and flu symptoms. We expect to receive approximately 400-500... new vaccines per week from ACT Health and will open more bookings as we receive more stock. If you cannot find an appointment that suits please check again in a week or two. Who is the government vaccine for? All patients 65 years or older (stronger dose flu vaccine which covers four strains this year). Pregnant women Children aged 6 months to less than 5 years Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over Patients aged 6 months and over with medical conditions predisposing to severe influenza such as: heart disease, lung disease or moderate/severe asthma, diabetes, renal failure, chronic neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis and seizure disorders, immune compromising conditions including HIV infection, or who are aged 5 to 10 years and are receiving long-term aspirin therapy. When? Anytime from now. Peak flu season is usually June to September in Australia, usually peaking in August. What is in the 2020 vaccine? The vaccines are quadrivalent, covering two influenza A and two influenza B strains expected to be circulating in 2020: - A (H1N1): an A/Brisbane/02/2018 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus (new) - A (H3N2): an A/South Australia/34/2019 (H3N2)-like virus (new) - B: a B/Washington/02/2019-like (B/Victoria lineage) virus new) - B: a B/Phuket/3073/2013-like (B/Yamagata lineage) virus (included in 2019 vaccine). The vaccine does not give protection against COVID-19. Please book online at yourgpcrace.com.au, yourgplyneham.com.au or yourgpdenman.com.au. YourGP@Crace has the best availability. There are four flu clinic appointment books at Crace - Flu Clinic Government Funded A to D. Flu clinic bookings are billed to Medicare. These appointments are for the administration of the flu vaccine only. What about children? Babies can receive the flu vaccine from six months. Children under five years are eligible for the free government flu vaccine. This year for the first time the flu vaccine from age six months is as strong as the adult dose. Children aged up to and including eight years require two doses, at least four weeks apart, in the first year they receive the vaccine. We recommend all children receive the flu vaccine.

13.01.2022 If you have even mild symptoms of a cold, please get a COVID test! We offer free testing by GPs at the YourGP@Crace GP Respiratory Clinic. Testing is quick and easy! Some folks don't get a COVID swab if their symptoms are mild as they feel like a 'fraud'. ACT Health is asking anyone with even mild symptoms to come in for testing. COVID symptoms can be mild, but it will still be contagious. Don't be the superspreader! If you have symptoms such as runny nose, fever, sore throat..., diarrhoea, cough or tiredness, we recommend you come in for a test. We can also do an examination such as looking in a child's sore ear or listening to that tight chest. We can offer a medical certificate and write a script if needed. We see all ages. Appointments are available daily, including today. Waiting time to be seen is usually less than five minutes. Don't assume it is just a cold, get a test! gprespiratoryclinic.com.au or call 6109 0000.
