25.01.2022 This is not a political post but from a mental health perspective based on my experience, what I've observed & what's been shared with me from my clients & loved ones. I was listening to the Govt announcement advising whether the 25 km travel limit would be removed so I could travel to regional Vic for a much needed holiday & get-away. A pretty "small" thing compared to the much larger impacts that myself & other Victorians have faced as a result of this & previous lockdowns.... Nonetheles, my cortisol levels began to rise. It was so noticeable. Hot, heart racing...I could literally feel the adrenaline in my body. It's easy to see how big stressors can wreak havoc on our nervous system & health, but when small stressors also accumulate over 15 months & you multiply that by 6.5 million people...what you have is collective stress & trauma. An increase in stress sends a signal to the bodies Autonomic Nervous System which produces physiological changes e.g our adrenals create more cortisol and these peaks can trigger a flight or fight response. The flight or fight response is meant to be protective & short, allowing us back into a 'Rest & Digest' state once the stressor has subsided. Our bodies cant tell the difference between physical danger vs emotional stressors, therefore produce the same physiological reactions whether we are in danger or not. Prolonged periods of stress & being in the flight or fight response can cause significant impacts to hormones, immunity, physical, mental & spiritual wellbeing. Examples of circumstances that could trigger a flight or fight response: *Delayed medical surgery & barriers to early detection/preventive care *Small businesses being forced to close *Perpetual uncertainty & social isolation *Families inside home with perpetrators of domestic violence *Parents home schooling kids *Capped numbers on funerals, impacting the ability to grieve in own way *Cancelled weddings *Childrens development impacted from isolation & being away from school *Constant fear mongering by politicians & the media *Landlords having properties vacant for months due to banning inspections & housing not being deemed essential I would like to share some things that can help change our state from fight or fight back into rest and digest and I will do that in posts to come. However for now it felt important to name what I have noticed and experienced and simply hold space for that. Oh so much space. Sending you all so much love Trace x

19.01.2022 This has been such a spacious weekend. No alarms clocks, no set plans and taking each moment as it comes. I'm in the Winter phase of my cycle (currently bleeding). Feeling very introspective, soft, restful and cosy. Contrary to what we are told, slowing down by choice is not 'weak' or unproductive. It is powerful, so so needed and truly honouring of our inner cycles and seasons How have you created space this weekend? ... Trace x . . . . @gili_eliyahu_adler

08.01.2022 First ever hoop performance at the Brewers Feast festival was such a great experience! It was a surprise to find out on the day we were performing main stage rather than a small little stage like what my imagination leading up to the day was picturing haha. The nerves ramped up just before we went on but man oh man when we were up there dancing it was a lot of fun I made a few mistakes but you just gotta roll with these things. Add this to one of many beautiful shared ex...periences with my hoop gals and the Hoops, Thighs & Buttocks community. Thanks again to Jade and Sooz for organising it all and for your support

07.01.2022 Hi everyone! Happy Monday! Please give this video some love if it resonated with you. Thanks for watching! :) Trace x

06.01.2022 To the BIPOC here in this community, this message especially is for you. There has been a lot of recent white supremicist hate and violence towards BIPOC both globally and locally. As we continue having the hard conversations and moving towards liberation, the insidiousness of racism proves to show exactly how woven it is into the fabric and every crevice of society. Yes, I am also very much talking about Australia. These are not easy times. But I hope this reminder can pro...vide you with some ease and grace. Go gently and kindly, especially towards yourself . . . . @deen.aesthetics See more

04.01.2022 I saw a post from @ayana_therapy that encouraged POC to ask potential therapists at initial client intake to share their thoughts about the psychological impact of white supremacy/racism/oppression. This resonated with me so deeply. Something that's been surfacing for me is how frequently I am subjected to casual racism & microaggressions (I actually hate these terms as casual racism is still racism & microaggressions are aggressive regardless of intention). The painful truth... is these situations are not when relating to strangers, but with health professionals and people I know. In general day to day conversations and when speaking about my LIVED experience of racism in Australia, I have experienced gas lighting, questions about "are you sure that was their intention?" & on some occasions centering what feelings my experiences evoke in THEM, leading to fragility, defensiveness and helplessness "but what can we do?"questions that only seek to extract emotional labour from me about what I think the solutions are, without any commitment to change or pro-active effort on their behalf. When discussing the BLM movement with a previous health professional, they appeared confused & actually asked me "what do they want? they are going about it in intense ways, what are they actually seeking?". When speaking to another health professional about my vision for BIPOC liberation which I believe is inevitable, I was reminded that progress is slow - the idea that progress must be slow is a load of shit and only benefits the oppressor and manipulates BIPOC into feeling "grateful" for crumbs of "equality". Just because someone is "nice", does not necessarily mean they are a safe space & exempt from causing harm to others. To the BIPOC here, a reminder that the onus and burden is never on you to educate others on racism nor offer solutions. You do not need to justify or explain yourself to people that are fundamentally invested in denying your reality. You aren't responsible for the feelings that arise in others when discussing your lived experience - that is their soul work to do on themselves & not yours to carry. Thank you for reading Part 2 coming soon
