24.01.2022 HEIGHT WITHOUT THE FRIGHT As we shop to accessorise our NYE dresses, it's all about the shoe. And it's official: a prominent mens magazine has said (I'm paraphrasing) those shoes that look like hooves are a turn off. Apparently we look like camels that can't walk. And after a big night, we really may not be able to. So choose wisely ladies, the type of shoe can either make or break your outfit, night and possibly ankle. Happy Shoe Year!

19.01.2022 When doing a wardrobe purge, do so in the relevant season. Ie Winter during winter, summer in summer. Keep in mind most of us wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. So mix and match, then purge what you don't need. Hand it to your local church or charity, not just leaving it in front of the shop/bin.

Yes there have been hits and misses, items that are timeless and those that we wear a few times and throw. ... 12.01.2022 APRIL 2013 SKIN IS IN (Welcome to the most controversial post in YMC history). Perhaps Hannibal Lector was onto a good thing. Leather, whether we like it or not, is one of the most durable and breathable materials that can be worn from head to toe and everything in between, including accessories.... Having bought leather pants 2 years ago and invested in leather jackets and skirts 7 years ago, I wear them to death (yep, pun intended) over the winter because its warm, somewhat air tight and will continue to so until the seams come apart. And when they do, Ill mend them and keep on wearing them. I know there will be vegetarians/vegans who will deem this as overkill (yep...), but isnt the whole point of their cause conservation to prolong resources for longevity with regards to both the environment and ourselves? I believe leather has this capability. If we use the animal for meat, lets use the whole thing = no waste. If I were to spill something on my pants/jacket/skirt, I would wipe it clean in seconds = no washing, saves water. If I were to purchase something once, to last at least 10 years = less manufacturing strain on the environment. My first decent leather purchase was a $600 Ralph Lauren bag, 8 years ago. Although, I still use it as an everyday work bag, an overnight bag and as carry-on luggage, I have never had an issue. Excessive purchase or wise investment? 06.01.2022 Welcome to YMC February 2013 To Shake or Not to Shake. Youre standing there, about to do or finish business. The person beside you shakes but do you shake too? In that moment of hesitation you could feel: embarrassed, self-conscious, awkward or un-business like or hope no one noticed. So when is the right time to shake and who ought to initiate the shaking of hands?... Hand shaking originated not as a gesture of harmony and good will, but more as a precautionary measure. Back in sword-wielding days if you wanted to approach one amicably, both would place down their weapons, face each other with open hands and clasp right hands. Why the right? It was to ensure that you disabled their preferred fighting hand in case they tried to reach for their sword. In business, if you are proposing the meeting, you ought to initiate the shake (at the beginning and at the end). If mutually meeting, instinctively both would shake. However, in that moment where neither shake, kind and professional parting words could be exchanged establishing the expectation for the next meeting. It is vital to note that in some cultures, touching of any sort (business or casual) is forbidden whereas in others, its customary to kiss on both cheeks and this is acceptable. As with most things, business or pleasure, trust your instincts and if you can, leave nothing for misinterpretation. The next worst thing to being misunderstood, is not being understood at all. Because you can wear Navy to the office and being Spring, to the races. And almost every colour goes with Navy for men and women alike. ... Gentleman, you can wear any colour shirt or tie (or hat/waistcoat/cravat) with Navy. If, for example, you have a Ruddy complexion avoid wearing purples and pinks and definitely red. Ladies, if you have a contrast colour such as a belt, jacket, shirt, top etc, dont match it with the shoes. This will draw the eye to the contrast top and bottom and shrink you. Navy will go with pink, yellow, silver and gold and everything in between. How you wear it and what you wear it with depends on your occasion and colouring. 01.01.2022 August 2013 - IN THE NUDE Halfway through August means halfway to Spring. Dresses, shirts, skirts, shorts, jeans and accessories are returning in fabulous colours and bright whites. But which shoes do you wear without looking like you ate ...the cast of Cirque Du Soleil and vomited on yourself? The nude shoe(s). Over 10 years, my collection is complete. The most expensive about $350 (Thanks to an awesome sale at Bergdorf Goodman where it was me vs an NYC socialite competing f...or that last pair of Manolo Blahnik's) all the way to $5 Uggs from the local school fete. ALL pairs are leather and I intend on wearing them until the I die. Shoes are an investment. The longer you have them, the more valuable they are. Not to mention the versatility.
