23.01.2022 Spring content ideas to help you nail your content this season
13.01.2022 Today like many of us I had multiple meetings both in person and on zoom. But one particular zoom meeting was really special. As I mentioned previously, I am a part of the Adweek Executive Mentorship group. And today we had a Happy Hour session. The difference being that everyone else was in the US with a wine after work, and I was in my office rushing back late from another meeting at 10 am. I considered a wine but I didn’t. Promise! The reason this was epic on many leve...ls was because of the connections and the people that I met from NYC to LA to NC. Chatting with some incredible minds behind the marketing campaigns of #Marvel & #Disney & other agency owners was incredible. But also because I was asked a specific question I’d never been asked before.. Atif said, Niamh from living in all these different countries, upping and moving your life/career away from family and what you’ve done up until now you seem to take a lot of risks, how do you do it? I said, I honestly never really thought of them as risks, until now. So I guess they are... I think so many of us don’t take risks because of fear. When I started my business fear was of course an overarching pullback and still is at times, but honestly my motto is ask yourself, what’s the WORST that can happen if I fail? If it’s not death, I do it. It got a chuckle. Heck, I had a chuckle as I never said it out loud before... But it’s true. I’m not boosting here about moving etc I genuinely don’t see it as a big risk etc thousands do it daily but I am saying next time an opportunity comes knocking, ask yourself that question.
11.01.2022 I turned off my phone for three days. Here's what happened. *Obvs, I lived to tell the tale.* Who had an A-MAZING looooonnnnggg overdue weekend? I did! By Friday, I was that excited you'd swear I was going overseas on holiday! I know you all know THAT feeling as small biz owners... You know ... Anyways long story short. I didn't answer any emails. I didn't go on social media. I actually didn't take my phone to places. I didn't reply to any texts. I didn't call anyone. And you know what? It was fecking amazing. And I would urge everyone to do it! If you are right now thinking of lots of excuses as to why you in particular can't do it, then you're probably addicted to your phone. As an advertiser this is obviously great for our clients but for your mental health, it's not so good and you should honestly really consider doing a digital detox. For me I thought I wasn't necessarily addicted to it. I was just on it for work. But when I sat down to have lunch and my partner got up to take a phone call I just about grabbed my phone and then I consciously thought oh gosh I am addicted. It's so funny how we can't even sit still for one minute without grabbing our phones to get that hit of dopamine. It's actually pretty scary. And of course, ironic you're reading this on a screen. So every time I go away/go on holiday, I always come back with a new 'thing' that I'm going to implement. This is what my mum does and I've taken it on as well. So my new thing is that I'm going to be more conscious with my screentime. For ex, rather than reply to a comment on a client's page while I'm waiting to get my coffee. I might just smile and pet the nearest dog. Ps, we had a little #staycation and it was FAB! Do that too, and see our stunning city #Sydney in a new light. . . . . #sydneyaustralia #royalbotanicgardens #mytravelgram #sydneysider #fourseasons #travelgram #springflowers #spring #operahouse #sydneyoperahouse #blueskies #harbourbridge #harbourbridgesydney #sydneyentrepreneurs #smallbusinessowner #irishabroad #irishinsydney #digitaldetox #visitnsw #shoplocal #staylocal #nsw #socialmediaagency
04.01.2022 Morning routine part two So after I do all my reading and journaling etc I will pop on my exercise gear that I have laid out the night before and I will grab my bottle of water or whatever else I need that I have laid out the night before and I will do some exercise. These days I’m doing a lot of CRONULLA BOOTCAMP. But otherwise it’s a run. Exercise makes a huge difference to my day. If I don’t exercise I don’t feel like I have enough #energy throughout the day to do what m...y job needs. I also feel a lot more irritable if I don’t have my exercise done. It gets a lot of stress out and I feel so much better for it. I really enjoy group #exercise, having spent my youth playing team sports. I love the #fun I have with the guys! Don’t get me wrong there are days where I don’t want to go if I’m really tired or have worked late the night before but most days I can’t wait to get out and see the sunrise. I haven’t worked-out inside for a long time. I couldn’t think of anything worse than working out inside a gym right now when we have the beautiful #Esplanade on our doorstep and summer is just around the corner. After exercise, I #meditate. So I have been meditating most days now for eight years and it has changed my life. I won't go on about the benefits but if you have any questions about it please let me know and I will be able to help. For me meditation has changed my outlook on life. It allows me to grow. It keeps me centred. It keeps anxiety and worry at bay. Some days I will miss out and on those days I really feel so much more agitated and stressed. So that’s part two and I will do part three tomorrow. I have had a lot of questions on part one so after part three I will maybe do a little Q&A and answer any questions. As I said having a morning routine has changed my life. Maybe just start tomorrow by reading a book. Then maybe the next week add a gratitude practice. And then maybe next month try exercising a few days a week. While writing this it feels a bit odd to share this personal thing but I do hope it helps people. Pics cronullabootcamp
03.01.2022 Morning Routine Part 3 Podcasts, bed-making & screen time After the meditation either at home or by the water, I’ll listen to a podcast that is motivational or to do with self development or to do with business development as I get ready. Sometimes when I’m not feeling it, I will go to YouTube and listen to some motivational videos to get me pumped ready for a big day ahead. One thing I do is I always make my bed. There was an entrepreneur that I follow who said if you ...make your bed in the morning you’ll feel so much better when you start your work because l you’ve already achieved something. And so I implement that throughout the week. Another life changer (it’s hard tho!) limit your screen time! Be really strict! Don’t check your phone first thing in the morning if you don’t need to. Don’t reach for it as soon as the alarm goes off. Don’t check your emails until you need to. Of all the entrepreneurs that I follow, one consistency is that they do not let email rule their day. And so that is something I have implemented and it is fantastic. I won’t check my emails until mid-morning unless there is a huge campaign happening or another metaphorical fire to put out. Emails are such a time sink! Also I leave my phone in the lounge before bed & no longer automatically look at it when I wake up. There’s reports which show doing that has a detrimental impact on your creativity & productivity throughout the day if you do. So as I sit down to start my day the feeling of having all of that stuff done by 7 or 8 am is enough motivation for me to really have a kick arse day. There’s not much you can’t conquer if you’ve conquered all that before many wake up. My time IS my business these days. My time is everything right now and so when I write this, it comes across as I’m either extremely OCD or very organised. But I would actually say that I am neither. You might think it’s a little odd, perhaps stilted but being so routine with my morning routine has actually allowed me more time to do things that I love. I also believe it gives me energy to work hard and when building a business as you all know you have to work so damn hard. Cont in comments
03.01.2022 Yesterday was a perfect example of how sometimes my morning routine goes up in flames. Pic 1 Friendly Niamh. Pic 2 Get out of my way (solutions) Niamh. As we all know as business owners, at just a moment’s notice our evenings or work days can change. This happened to me late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. So that meant not enough sleep, a quick shower in the morning and sitting on the laptop with a coffee as soon as my eyes were open. ... I used to hate when this happened. I would get it into my head that my day would be ruined because of it. But that’s not the case. This happens every now and again! It is expected when running your own business and managing a team and managing clients. Because I love what I do I don’t mind when it happens every now and again. Side note: For anyone who cares the metaphorical fire has been put out. Part 3 Coming up tomorrow! Why? The caption wouldn’t fit tonight.
01.01.2022 Christmas shoppers will spend more online, earlier, this year. I read a few #Christmas consumer surveys over the weekend and this was the consensus. I know, I know it’s not even #Halloween yet BUT it’s time to start thinking about Christmas. And with these new stats, we really need to be on the ball.... A few things to think about to help you kick start... How is your potential customer feeling right now? Do they have the same amount of disposable income they had last year? If not, how are you adapting your marketing message? What can you promote NOW, ahead of your competition? As shoppers are buying earlier, are you stocked up/prepared? Screenshot and note down these tips to kick start the holiday season! #digitalmarketing #onlineshopping #buyfromthebush #emptyesky #shoppingaddict #smallbusinesstips #retailers #socialmediamarketing #socialmediatips
