22.01.2022 Rolling hills of South Australia http://bit.ly/2IXxSvs

21.01.2022 Here's something interesting. This is footage of a Orange Footed Scrub Fowl. They belong to the Megapodes family (Mega, means large and Pod means foot). Yes they have large feet, and they make very large nests, tones of litter they pile into a big mound. To do that, they meed large tools of course....... Having big feet allows them to look at the ground while scraping the floor for food, a chicken would raise the head while scraping and then look at what it uncovered. The nests are home to a group of birds sharing the continuous maintenance by digging holes to check the temperature, taking leaves from the top to cool, putting more leaves to raise temperature, it's an ongoing job all year around, year after year. The Megapodes lay very large eggs, and this particular guy, the Orange Footed Scrub Fowl, is the one that lay the largest eggs in comparison to its body size. Megapodes can lay eggs up to 180 grams, outch.... They don't take care of the eggs, the incubation is done because the nest is a compost mound. The chicks hatch already with feathers and they don't rely on their parents to survive. They are "born to be wild".
