25.01.2022 Food allergies are serious illnesses and can cause varying reactions depending on the severity. However many folks confuse intolerances for allergies. An intolerance is different from an allergy because a food allergy affects the sufferer's immune system, whereas intolerance is an adverse reaction to a particular type of food. Although they both indicate sensitivity to food, an allergy can be life-threatening while intolerance is most likely not. But they do stop you from enjoying food the way you should. In this week's blog post we delve into the reasons why you might be suffering from food intolerances and how you can rediscover the joy of happy eating. Look out for this one.

18.01.2022 For centuries, flax seeds have been prized for their health-protective properties. In fact, Charles the Great ordered his subjects to eat flax seeds for their health. So it's no wonder they acquired the name Linum usitatissimum, meaning "the most useful." Grown since the beginning of civilization, flax seeds are one of the oldest crops. Flaxseed has been used as a traditional food and remedy in Mediterranean cultures for thousands of years. Nowadays, flax seeds are emerging as a "super food" as more scientific research points to their health benefits. But it is the discovery that flaxseed may also help with menopausal symptoms which holds promise for us women. Watch out for my next blog which will tell you all about the benefits of flaxseed meal for menopausal women.

17.01.2022 Theres a good chance youre familiar with probiotics (at least familiar enough when you buy Greek yogurt or "Yakult" probiotic milk at the grocery store). 16.01.2022 Food combining is a philosophy of eating that has ancient roots, but has become extremely popular in the recent past. Food combining is the term for the idea that certain foods pair well together, while others do not. Proponents of food-combining diets believe that improper food combinations can lead to disease, toxin buildup and digestive distress. They also believe that proper combinations can relieve these problems. But is there any truth to these claims? Does food combining work? Find out all about it in this week's blog!

16.01.2022 The idea behind 'food combining' diets is that different foods digest at different rates in the body and require different digestive environments. And, therefore, foods need to be eaten in groups and at specific times that complement these factors. Which brings us to the big question: Does food combining actually work? Get ready to find out in our next blog.

14.01.2022 Wisdom Wednesday PART TWO (see yesterday's post for part one) To know the level of your health, look at your gut; everything begins and ends there. Its where all digestion, absorption, and elimination take place & requires a healthy gut. If your intestinal walls are inflamed, irritated, and leaky, then you are not digesting or absorbing your food properly. Optimizing health in that situation is tricky. Our trillions of intestinal good and bad bacteria, or intestinal flo...ra, when out of balance, will likely negatively affect our hormones too. Lets have a look at four big factors which compromises our gut health, contributes to chronic inflammation, dysbiosis (imbalance of gut flora), and hormonal imbalances, and symptoms such as bloating, poor digestion, and belly fat: - Poor diet: refined and processed foods, sugar, bad fats and fried foods, hormone and antibiotic- laden meats, poultry, and dairy products, GMOs (genetically modified foods), artificial additives, sweeteners, and preservatives, excess alcohol. - Food sensitivities: most commonly gluten, dairy, corn, soy, sugar, yeast. Food sensitivities cause inflammation and digestive disturbance (gas, bloating, constipation and/or diarrhea, fatigue, skin issues, brain fog, headaches). - Medications: antibiotics, NSAIDS, steroids (even birth control pills), antacids. These create chaos on your gut walls and microbiome. - Stress: In addition to stress eating, stress causes our digestive enzymes to take a detour, leaving us with indigestion, gas, and bloating. Stress also causes our stress hormone cortisol to spike, leading to more fat being deposited in cortisol-sensitive abdominal fat cells, resulting in that menopausal middle, or belly fat. 14.01.2022 The process of digesting each meal takes a great deal of energy, so you want to increase your ability to digest or your digestive power. But what happens if your digestion is not working properly? Proper food combining is a system of eating foods that combine together efficiently to assist digestion so that your digestive tract does not have to work so hard to give you the nutrients you need for energy. Food combining is the little-known secret to eating that enhances your ...digestion to give you energy and can help you lose weight and keep it off. But does it really work? 07.01.2022 Tip Tuesday PART ONE The Menopausal Middle, Belly Fat and Bloat One of the most challenging symptoms we peri/menopausal women face is the menopausal middle - the increase belly fat and bloat that results from hormonal changes. It is normal to feel particularly upset, concerned, and frustrated by this physical change, but remember that you are not alone. This is an extremely common symptom and one that can be overcome. There are knowledge and tools to reverse, decrease, and ev...en eliminate the menopausal middle so that we can return ourselves to confidence and stability. It is so important to begin with a sympathetic mindset -instead of following the when/then mindset (when we lose weight, then we will be happy), we should be focusing on the fact that we are enough and loving ourselves first amidst the changes of menopause and moving forward from there. Our bodies are amazing things that are only trying to help and protect us from worse states. This mindset is essential and changes our entire approach to eating and living. Changing our diets and lifestyles becomes something we choose, rather than something we need to do. The difference is the place we make the decision from- joy vs. stuckness for our transitioning bodies. In order to move through this this journey with as little resistance as possible, it's important that we connect with our bodies and see them as a valuable ally in our journey. You may find this challenging, and it is. The insomnia and brain fog you may be experiencing might make it seem like our bodies are turning against us. But in truth, the process our bodies are going through, is natural - our hormones are changing. Food, nutrients, exercise, and simple lifestyle changes are some of the natural ways that we can bring balance to the hormonal chaos. Gut, liver, and adrenal health are some of the crucial health aspects to look at if we are to get rid of the menopausal middle. These are all intimately connected with, and impact hormone balancing. Join my Clease to learn how to improve your health & start to decrease the menopausal middle https://healthyourway.com.au/cleanse

07.01.2022 I get a ton of questions when it comes to gut health, especially about probiotics and prebiotics. Its a trendy topic but can be really confusing. What are they? Do you need probiotics AND prebiotics? What foods have them? Do you need a probiotic supplement? They may sound almost exactly the same, but there's a big difference. Both probiotics and prebiotics help keep your gut bacteria healthy, but serve different functions. 04.01.2022 Menopause and weight gain: Do they always go hand in hand? It may seem that way, especially because gaining weight is so common after menopause. About 30% of women ages 50 to 59 are not just overweight, but obese. If you now have a waist measurement of more than 35 inches, it's time to take steps to reverse this trend. In my next blog, I explain why women in menopause may gain weight and what to do to prevent or combat those extra pounds. Watch this space.
