24.01.2022 The 6th of October is World Cerebral Palsy (CP) Day! A day to celebrate people that live with CP. We have various diverse people with disabilities on YDAN including; volunteers, executive committee members and staff. Some of these people, like Layne, here has CP. 18.01.2022 Children and Young People with Disability Australia (CYDA) last week launched the first National Youth Disability Leadership Program! This program is designed for young people with disability anywhere in Australia, aged 18-25. The program is for young people with disability who have aspirations and goals to become future young leaders. The program is free to participate in and is completely online, meaning you can participate from anywhere in Australia!... Nominations are set to close on Wednesday 18 November at 11:59pm. 11.01.2022 Today we held an event for International Day of People with Disabilities. The workshop saw us all learn a lot about how to be more inclusive of people who are Deaf or hard of hearing, and, taught us a few basic Auslan signs as well! Thanks to Developmental Disability WA and the Department of Communities for the grant which made this event possible. Thank you so much also to Access Plus WA Deaf for hosting the workshop today.

11.01.2022 The YDAN Career Mentor Program matched up young people with disabilities with Peer Mentors - people with disabilities who are established and successful in their careers with the aim of fostering positive peer relationships, and increase the capacity and confidence of young people with disabilities as they enter the workforce. Aided by the Program’s Learning Modules which focused on topics like Communication skills, Creating your Resume, Job Interview Skills, and Knowing y...our Rights in the Workplace, Mentors also worked together with their Mentees to address and overcome barriers in access to employment through growing connections and support networks. Thank you to our project coordinator, Laura, who ran this amazing program for young people living with disability. Today we heard from Madi, Grace, Shenali and Nita (who was our MC for this fantastic event), as well as many other people who unfortunately couldn’t make today’s event.... 06.01.2022 VisAbility is pleased to announce the launch of 'How I Learn', a free tool to help young people with disabilities advocate for their unique learning needs. The 'How I Learn' website allows students to document their educational, learning and accessibility needs in one place. It empowers students with disabilities to document their learning and accessibility needs in one place. One youngster who’s been trialing out the How I Learn website is Emily Prior, who is 12, and has ce...rebral palsy. It has given me more control of the way I like to be taught and lets the school know they are doing the right things to support me, she explains. Her mum Jenny, says as a parent it gives her reassurance that the school is doing all it can to make Emily’s educational journey easier. Emily has a physical disability so the school need to know about her accessibility needs as she uses a wheelchair. She also prefers multiple choice type questions rather than writing down long answers, says Jenny. 05.01.2022 Manning Tennis Club was featured in last weeks newsletter, this was a newsletter from Tennis Australia, which displayed all the wheelchair tennis clubs around Australia. Manning Tennis had a come and try wheelchair tennis day earlier this year, which as result of this they have gained 10 para athletes with all different of disabilities and injuries.
