Even if an exception applies, they must carry a face-covering with them unless they have a serious medical condition which prevents them from wearing one. You can read about the exceptions on the DHHS website here: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au//face-coverings-1159pm-wednesd If you have a question about the new rules or you receive a fine for breaching them and would like to know if you can challenge it, please contact us 24/7 for confidential, free legal advice at https://www.lawmail.org.au/details. And please, lets all be kind to each other.

20.01.2022 Please sign our petition to urge the Australian Government to #FundJusticeForChildrenNow! For 25 years, we have helped children and young people access justice on important issues including sexual abuse, bullying, family violence and online harassment. But the Australian Government recently informed us that our funding is not guaranteed after 30 June 2020. If the funding is cut, we will not be able to continue operating. ... So we are asking you to please sign our petition and help protect this important service that gives so many children and young people access to justice. www.change.org/FundJusticeForChildrenNow

19.01.2022 This year, Youth Law Australia provided a submission to the Australian Council of Attorneys-General which outlined why the presumption of doli incapax has failed as a legal safeguard for Australian children aged 10 to 13 inclusive. Children as young as 10 can be arrested, charged with an offence, denied bail, taken before a court and sentenced to juvenile detention. We must do better. We must raise the minimum age of criminal responsibility. Please support the campaign to raise the minimum age of criminal responsibility here: https://www.raisetheage.org.au/home#petition #raisetheage

19.01.2022 Over 1,000 people have signed our petition calling on the Australian Government to #FundJusticeForChildrenNow by ensuring Youth Law Australia receives sustainable funding beyond 30 June. As that deadline approaches, we need your help to ramp up pressure by sending an email to the key decision-maker, Australian Attorney-General Christian Porter. You can use and modify an email weve already prepared here: http://bit.ly/2xNO4Mr

19.01.2022 Thank you Lawyers Weekly for highlighting YLAs free legal help service. Were so grateful for our volunteers and interns who support us to help more children and young people. With adequate Government funding, our online help platform and our passionate staff and volunteers could help so many more! #FundJusticeForChildrenNow https://bit.ly/2vG8JBg

18.01.2022 Our #FundJusticeForChildrenNow petition has almost reached 600 signatures. So were sending a big big thank you to everyone who has signed. If you havent signed yet, you can sign right now, right here: http://bit.ly/3360CdI And please share the link with your family and friends and let them know how important YLAs free legal service is for children and young people in Australia.

17.01.2022 Help us urge the Government to #FundJusticeForChildrenNow! As friends and supporters of Youth Law Australia, were asking for your urgent help and support. For the past 25 years, the Australian Government has provided a modest amount of ongoing funding to YLA. Its not enough to meet the enormous need our services address. But it has been the lifeblood of our small team. ... Now, the Government says they wont guarantee that funding after 30 June this year. Even with the funding, were forced to turn away children and young people every year because we dont have the resources to meet the immense need. But without it, we wont be able to carry on at all. Our service provides a safe space for children and young people to talk about their problems and get real help and action to address them. Problems like sexual abuse and harassment, bullying, family violence and online harassment. Please share this post and tag Scott Morrison (ScoMo), Christian Porter , and Josh Frydenberg , to let them know they must fund access to justice for children and young people in Australia.

16.01.2022 The Queensland Government through Attorney-General, Yvette DAth, has committed $161,000 to Youth Law Australia for 2020-21. The funding will support a lawyer to work with our Queensland clients and to develop online resources and tools. We are so grateful for our funding relationships with the Queensland and Australian Governments, the latter having provided the additional funding to Queensland to enhance legal services to people experiencing disadvantage as a result of COV...ID-19. We will be providing legal support to more of Queenslands young people, their families and advocates - statewide. A big thank you to the Queensland and Australian Governments! #queensland #accesstojustice #legalservices Yvette DAth for Redcliffe Attorney-Generals Department Christian Porter

09.01.2022 Are nudes against the law? Its important to know that it is never OK for someone to share or threaten to share your intimate photo or video without your consent. During COVID19 we saw an increase in NSW young people seeking help about image based abuse. In response, we teamed up with @youthactionnsw to create a resource to let you know how the law applies to sexting and image based abuse in NSW and where to get help. You can check it out here: https://yla.org.au//2/03/Sexting-and-Image-Based-Abuse.pdf If youre worried about something you have sent or received online, or you are from outside NSW you can contact us 24/7 through our Get Help Now page https://www.lawmail.org.au/details

04.01.2022 Youth Law Australia is delighted to inform our supporters that the Administrative Appeals Tribunal recently remitted Kayban Jamshaads matter to the Department of Home Affairs with the direction that he meets the requirements for the waiver of the health requirement, shoring up the likelihood that the department will grant a temporary visa. Three-year-old Kayban developed serious health complications following his birth in Western Australia. He requires 24-hour care and face...d deportation due to costs associated with his health care, with the department concluding there was not sufficient "compelling" or "compassionate" grounds for Kayban to be granted a health waiver. YLA lent support to Kaybans lawyers, Estrin Saul Lawyers in the litigation and commends them on their excellent work which was undertaken pro bono. Well done Kayban and the entire Jamshaad family! 04.01.2022 Today is Mabo day, which marks the anniversary of the High Courts landmark Mabo decision recognising the land rights that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have and acknowledging the unique connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have to the land. 28 years have passed since the Mabo decision but we still have a long way to go. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people continue to be significantly over-represented in both the j...ustice and child protection systems. We must do more. During National Reconciliation Week, we committed to further developing our Reconciliation Action Plan. This is a long process and small steps are being taken along a journey of learning and collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, communities, leaders and organisations. Over the past 12 months, we provided legal advice and information to 164 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people or their advocates. We will continue to listen, learn and collaborate to ensure all children and young people have equal access to justice and are able to work towards a brighter tomorrow. #InThisTogether2020 #NRW2020

03.01.2022 The Australian Governments recent commitment of additional funding to all states and territories for the legal assistance sector will help support children and young people who are facing disadvantage as a result of COVID-19. The Tasmanian Government through Attorney-General, Elise Archer, has committed $65,000 of this funding to Youth Law Australia until 30 June 2021. The funding will support a part-time solicitor to work with our Tasmanian clients, digital resources and IT... to support remote working. We are thankful for this new relationship with the Tasmanian Government, and the funding provided by the Australian Government, and will do our very best to enhance access to justice for Tasmanias young people. #Tasmania #accesstojustice #legalservices Elise Archer MP - Liberal Member for Clark Christian Porter Attorney-Generals Department

03.01.2022 We welcome the Australian Human Rights Commissions recommendation for better support, advice and advocacy for people who experience sexual harassment in the workplace. And were happy to say, YLAs work is already addressing two of the Commissions recommendations for primary prevention: 1. Providing resources on workplace rights for young people: check out YLAs online resources on workplace rights http://bit.ly/32RgBvW... 2. Delivering respectful relationships education in schools: we worked with the Department for Education, South Australia to develop teaching resources on SA laws. This included lessons on harassment, age of consent and online communications. Wed love to work with other states to do the same! http://bit.ly/38smlxo
