24.01.2022 Children do not belong in jail. In Australia 10 yo children can be arrested, charged and jailed. This photo is of our Director Rene Kulitja at 10 years old. Eve...ry child has the right to smile like this. Annually, Australia has 600 children aged 10-13 locked up in prison and sadly 65% of these children are Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander. Research shows that incarcerating children does not reduce crime, in fact it contributes to children re-offending. NPYWC Directors ask the Australian Government to #raisetheage in line with UN Committee on the Rights of the Child recommendations. 24.01.2022 CALL FOR YOUTH WORKERS TO HELP WITH COVID-19 IN REMOTE COMMUNITIES In the coming weeks and months COVID-19 is likely to hit residents of remote Aboriginal communities in Central Australia particularly hard. When this happens the remote community workforce is also going to be under a great amount of pressure. It will become hard to to keep a range of community programs staffed, especially as travel to community now requires 14 days self-isolation for some workers and all comm...unity members. Youth workers are already under the pump and performing other roles in community as well as doing what they can for children and families within the boundaries of the latest COVID 19 requirements. So CAYLUS is looking for expressions of interest from people with the right set of skills who are willing to be employed short-term to: * Travel to the Alice Springs to go into quarantine (potentially supervised and arranged by government) * live in a remote community for 3 months or more working as a part of the local youth program during the COVID-19 pandemic * if needed, work across a range of service areas (such as aged care, food security etc) in a remote community as COVID-19 impacts the workforce and community. This is very new, the rules keep changing so it will require highly adaptive people. We are just seeking expressions of interest as a starting point. We may share the information you provide with youth service providers in the region. If you end up traveling for us, CAYLUS would cover travel and quarantine costs and pay you for your time. 23.01.2022 Remote communities are right at the end of the supply chain so product shortages during the pandemic have hit even harder. Thanks so much to U by Kotex AUNZ who have supplied 12 pallets of sanitary products for distribution during this time and to Cox Inall Ridgeway who helped organise this. #UbyKotexAUNZ

18.01.2022 Free pool and BBQ every Wednesday over the summer holidays in Alice Springs.

18.01.2022 ABC Australia Wide story at 16.00 about the future supply of Opal Fuel now that Kwinana Refinery is closing. Low aromatic fuel is an unleaded petrol designed to discourage people from sniffing by lowering the amount of toxic aromatic components which give someone a high. The use of the fuel has been effective in lowering the incidence of sniffing in many communities, but with the closure of the BP fuel refinery in Kwinana there are concerns about future access to this fuel.... 16.01.2022 The Kintore Local Authority will have new energy this year as Kintore Youth Board members and MacYouth workers Francis and Shania have become the newest members... of the Local Authority. Highlights for Francis while working for MacYouth and being on the Youth Board include taking young people on bush trips, organising new sports equipment for footy and the youth drop-in space and the installation of the new water fountain. We should have more playing areas around the drop-in centre. I want to make sure young kids are attending school and there is training at the college to help people stay and work in community Francis Collins Kintore Local Authority and Youth Board member See more
