25.01.2022 Ryan was still a teenager when he became the primary carer and provider for his younger siblings during his parents challenging divorce. With so much responsibility resting on his shoulders, Ryan turned to our Belmore Outreach team for support, developing a strong bond with our youth workers who set him on a path to success. This is his story:

24.01.2022 This is Gemma,* a student at EDEN College who is about to graduate among our first group of Year 12 students at EDEN. All I ever wanted to do was be a good role model for my little sister. I wanted her to know that she can achieve anything she puts her mind to, because things werent always easy for us Read her incredible story here:

24.01.2022 We cant help but smile seeing this photo of our students from Bowen College cheering along their classmate who is learning to surf for the first time. Learning to surf is an incredible feat or anyone, but for our students being able to have these experiences means the world. Without the team at Bowen College these students wouldnt be able to have these incredible experiences which have truly sky rocketed our students confidence and self-esteem. We cant wait to see what these students will achieve next!

23.01.2022 Youth Off The Streets, Yfoundations and Domestic Violence NSW (DVNSW) welcome the Federal Governments recent announcement of a $3 million package to provide more support services for women and their children who have experienced domestic and family violence. While this commitment is certainly a way forward, our young people must also be considered. Youth Off The Streets CEO, Lex Lutherborrow says Domestic and family violence is one of the leading causes of youth homelessness in Australia and we urge the Federal Government to allocate new funding to youth services to support the growing number of vulnerable young people turning to us because it is no longer safe to go home. Full release can be found here:

22.01.2022 One in five Australian households have reported buying more alcohol than usual since the COVID-19 outbreak. Stress, boredom and a loss of routine are just some of the factors that are leading to higher rates of substance abuse. As the effects of the pandemic continue to unfold, there is a growing concern for our young people who may also be abusing drugs and alcohol or dealing with the effects of it at home with recent job loss, financial strain, mental health issues or increased domestic and family violence. Our youth workers are doing their very best to keep our young people empowered to make positive lifestyle decisions. Here is how one particular service our Dunlea Alcohol and Other Drugs Youth Service is working to keeping our young people safe, healthy and happy during this challenging time:

21.01.2022 COVID-19 has impacted us all and its our most vulnerable who are hit the hardest. But theres one way you can make a real difference in the lives of homeless young people like Zoe*.

20.01.2022 We’re thrilled to announce Australia’s kindest café: Club Rivers. It’s hard to go past the awesome custom made cupcakes, cookies and the huge effort they made in decorating. We chose Club Rivers as the kindest café for their outstanding promotion of Cup of Kindness Day and fantastic decorations. Congratulations to Club Rivers and a big thank you for being a #KindCafe.... Another big thank you to all of our Kind Cafes who participated and went to so much effort to do their bit to help homeless young people.

20.01.2022 We’re deeply saddened by the loss of Tony Mall from Grace Springs Farm. A passionate supporter of Youth Off The Streets, and a great guide to our students at The Lakes College. Tony, thank you for believing in our kids and for giving up your time and energy to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Your memory will live on with us and our students.

18.01.2022 Students at our independent high schools have amazed us with their resilience this year. We are so grateful that we have been able to provide these vulnerable young people with tailored mental health support at our schools during these stressful times. Thank you to Merrylands RSL Club, who fund the Chapel School psychologist, for your ongoing support. With your help our students can feel safe and supported and can work towards achieving incredible things.

17.01.2022 While many of us have been fighting off cabin fever during the COVID-19 lockdown, young people staying at our refuges have been enjoying their time indoors discovering new passions, skills and hobbies from a much-needed place of safety. Making art during this time is really helping me stay in control of my emotions and has given me the freedom to express my feelings without any judgement. Hear more about how our young people are expressing themselves during this time below:

16.01.2022 This is Matilda* and she has the proud distinction of being the first in her family to make it to Year 12: No one had gone as far as Year 10 and I thought I would follow. Im so glad I can be a role model for my younger sister too, so she can also believe that anything is possible. Matilda attends EDEN College a Youth Off The Streets school in Macquarie Fields that, along with Matilda, is about to celebrate a significant milestone this year: their first group of Year 12 students set to graduate. We are incredibly proud of our students for overcoming significant odds to get where they are now. Read their inspirational story below:

12.01.2022 This Reconciliation Week is a moment for the Australian community to learn more about traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healing practices. Following the theme of this year In This Together, wed like to share how our Aboriginal Services team, supported by Future Generation, is affecting real change in the lives of Indigenous young people and their communities to achieve reconciliation. As a culture that has been made to forget a lot of their history and t...raditions, it is crucial to keep encouraging the sharing of these stories between Aboriginal communities and to the broader Australia community. - Tyson Birtles, Director Aboriginal Services. Read the full story below and learn more about our journey to reconciliation.

12.01.2022 It’s supporters like Wenty Leagues that have helped us tremendously as we navigate through the last few months. Without their ongoing dedication to our young people we simply wouldn’t be able to help those most in need in the western Sydney area.

12.01.2022 Our team have seen a worrying, but sadly expected, increase in young people seeking support due to domestic and family violence since the pandemic. - Kylee Bowring, Client Services Coordinator - Sydney Homeless Services. Hear from our refuge staff about the challenges our young people are currently facing here:

11.01.2022 This is Karen, Manager of Fairfield Heights Woolworths and in our eyes, a local legend. 10.01.2022 When I started this organisation in the early 90s, I was reading newspapers talking about hundreds of young people that were out on the streets of Inner-Sydney that needed help. It became my passion to help these most disadvantaged young people that no one else could engage with. Father Chris Riley, Founder of Youth Off The Streets. Watch the below video to learn more about Father Chris Rileys work for almost 30 years with homeless young people:

10.01.2022 Tune in to our recent interview with ABC Radio Sydney on how this pandemic is affecting young people who are already vulnerable or disadvantaged. (Conversation starts at 32 min, 34 sec)

10.01.2022 This Homelessness Week we spoke to some of our young people about their own experiences being homeless. One such young person, Sam* revealed why he was forced to leave home and what challenges he faced when he had nowhere safe to stay. Sam is a reminder that this years theme of Everybody Needs a Home has never been more urgent, and when it comes to ending homelessness, we all have a role to play. Read his story here:

10.01.2022 If there was ever a time you can reach out to support vulnerable young people like Zoe* and get them to safety, its now. We have seen a sudden rise in drug and alcohol abuse, domestic and family violence and mental health problems as more people experience financial hardship, unemployment and emotional strain often leading to the abuse, neglect and suffering of young people. For many kids, these burdens have left them no choice but to rely on our services - which people li...ke you support - in order to survive. Your kind donation, large or small, will show young people at risk during this crisis we are there for them- for as long as it takes. Donate online today. * Name has been changed to protect the privacy of the young person.

10.01.2022 This week is Homelessness Week, a time for us to raise awareness on an issue that affects over 43,000 young people every night. The theme this year is Everybody Needs a Home, and in all the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, this has never been more urgent. Increased domestic and family violence, drug and alcohol abuse, unemployment and rental stress have resulted in more young people in recent months having no safe place to turn to. While we can all agree that everybody needs a home, we also know that a home is more than just a roof over your head. Thats why throughout the week we will bring the youth homelessness issue into the spotlight and discuss what actions need to be taken now and in the future, to ensure all young people feel safe and supported.

07.01.2022 Young people who come to our services needing support for their addiction often tell us how they are outcast from their communities, but at Youth Off The Streets we welcome those in need because we know that there are stories untold, triumphs uncelebrated and challenges overcome. 02.01.2022 This is one of our students from Bowen College catching up earlier this year with his new friend - a resident at the Bupa aged care facility. Students made close friendships when visiting the residents as part of their Senior Teens Empathy Program, in term one. Of course, their visits were put on hold due to social distancing but this did not stop our students and teachers from working hard to organise regular virtual catch ups. Hear more about this heartwarming story of how our students are bringing life into the aged care facility:

01.01.2022 If youre looking for fun ways to support your favourite causes while getting fit at the same time, why not get your own fundraiser up and running? Just ask Steve Tague, who has gathered friends and colleagues to take part in his fitness challenge to perform 100 swings or snatches with a kettlebell every single day of July, with all funds going to Youth Off The Streets! I came from a difficult background myself and have always wanted to give back and support this worthwhil...e cause that is close to my heart. I imagined things would be pretty tough for young people at the moment out in the cold and on top of that I imagine Youth Off The Streets as a whole must be doing it tough like many other charities are, so I wanted to do my bit to help out., he says. It is people like Steve, who show that they care, that give our young people hope to turn their lives around. Thank you Steve and everyone who is taking up this challenge to fundraise for us! If you would like to run a fundraiser for us visit:
