19.01.2022 Camp is three sleeps away and we are super excited to meet all of the amazing participants!! You have heard from the mentors about camp, and now you get to hear from one of the participants of the camp! Lily is one of our amazing participants on this year's camp. She is a 15-year-old and has been attending Youth on Leadership Camps for the last 3 years. This year Lily will attend her 4th camp! ... When we asked Lily about the camps, this is what she had to say: "Camp is very weird at first, not knowing where you are going or what you are doing. It's weird not feeling in control, but you get used to it. You begin to feel so close with those around you, even though you've only known them for a few days, and you create friendships which last, as you bond through the experience of camp and the working together in teams. It's really an amazing experience, which is hard to describe unless you've been and in it. I love going and meeting new people in a new environment which is different from any other." We are super lucky to have Lily be a part of our program, and can't wait to join her on camp this coming Monday!

18.01.2022 CAMP BEGINS ON MONDAY AND WE ARE SUPER EXCITED Before camp begins, we would like to introduce you to our next mentor, Wilder! Wilder is currently 16 years old and is homeschooled. He is currently in the process of getting his Certificate 3 in Business. He has been on 3 Youth on Leadership camps, and this year he will attend his fourth camp as a Youth Mentor for the first time. ... When we asked him about his time apart of Youth on Leadership, this is what he had to say: "I have been apart of the camp/program for the last 4 years and in these years I have been opened up to so many new opportunities, such as YOHfest where I was able to learn about the arts and the various roles of event management. I was also given the opportunity to be the videographer of the event this year which was a great opportunity for me, to expand my skill and passions in the area. One year, our YOL program was approached by Peel Harvey Catchment Council where they gave us a budget to help build awareness around plastic use reduction. YOL also gave me the confidence to apply for a youth focus program, where I was one of the youngest to be accepted. Our group since then has created the Making Waves project for the Mandurah youth, where we have created two successful events. We are now currently creating an alcohol campaign. Because of this program, I was recently given the opportunity to join a team at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre and alongside with a team, we were able to create an event called You Are Youth Arts Festival. This gave me so much more of an idea on what happens in the background of the many events that go on Mandurah. The camp itself is a new experience each year and I really enjoy the challenges and activities on camp, the lasting friendships with fellow participants and also the unique bonds with the staff and leaders each year. I am very grateful to have had these opportunities as I have become much more aware and interested in the community of Mandurah and how I can participate in its future. " We are super proud of Wilder, and can't wait to join him on camp this year!

We love that we get to be a part of a program that allows for the youth of the Peel Region to educate, empower and motivate each other. ...
