21.01.2022 Kids don't belong behind bars: it's time to #RaiseTheAge of criminal responsibility. We have alternatives to detention, and more importantly, the opportunity to reinvest to prevent youth crime before it happens. Check out our letter in The West Australian today, based on this great article about the issue: https://bit.ly/2Fa2muo

20.01.2022 Such a great workshop to be a part of! Shout-out to Charlie for his excellent whiteboard writing skills ;)

20.01.2022 A great explanation from Social Reinvestment WA about how thinking differently means we find better solutions to preventing crime before it happens.

20.01.2022 12 year old Dujuan & his community have a clear vision for kids like him. They're challenging mainstream systems to find better approaches. The In My Blood It Runs documentary tells this powerful story. If you're looking for something to do this weekend you can see it at Luna Palace Cinemas or Luna On SX https://www.theguardian.com//between-two-worlds-i-want-my-

19.01.2022 Challenging times call for creative approaches! With learning moving into homes, and face-to-face service delivery becoming more limited, our team have been putting together packs for our YPP participants. Each pack contains a work book with colouring sheets, Zones of Regulation information, a journal which has personalised messages inside and positive words of affirmation, a torch to help them feel safe, a snack, a reading book, a puzzle, and pencils. Plus, each week there'll be some new fun, educational, creative or active activities to enjoy!

19.01.2022 How great is this?! A few weeks back we received a Lego delivery donated to Save the Children Australia to help keep kids entertained & learning through play during COVID-19!

19.01.2022 Today we farewell a YPP Superstar, Charlie! Our phenomenal youth worker, Charlie is finishing up with the YPP today ahead of his next adventure. He has been such a huge part of the success of the YPP since joining us in early 2018, and he will be deeply missed by our young people, partners & the YPP Team. We wish him all the best, and hope to see him again real soon!

19.01.2022 We love this graphic story from The Royal Australasian College of Physicians! It's an excellent example of the complexity that many families in our communities face, and why we need to think different about how we help them best support their children. A highly recommended Friday afternoon read! https://www.racp.edu.au/advocacy/make-it-the-norm

19.01.2022 "Children need care, love and support so they can reach their full potential. Not handcuffs and prisons. To have the best chance of a good life, children need guidance and support including better access to mental health care, mentoring, education and employment opportunities. Thats why we are calling on states, territory and Commonwealth governments to urgently raise the age of criminal responsibility from the age of 10 to the age of 14 to keep kids and our communities safe."

18.01.2022 A huge shoutout this #WorldTeachersDay to all the teachers working with our YPP Participants, who continually challenge themselves and find creative strategies that make learning interesting, responsive and fun! Willandra Primary School Neerigen Brook Primary School - An Independent Public School East Maddington Primary School Wirrabirra Primary School

18.01.2022 How will you bring youth to the decision making table this #InternationalYouthDay?

17.01.2022 How great is this? Our wonderful YPP Intern from last year, Nothando Ngwenya, has done a podcast episode with The McCusker Centre for Citizenship at UWA about her experience! If you're intrested in what it's like to do a YPP Internship, have a listen!

16.01.2022 We’re excited to be at the @yacwa’s State of the Youth Sector Forum today! And really looking forwards to the #youthjustice workshop later this morning!

13.01.2022 Last week, we had a great opportunity to join the The University of Notre Dame Australias Designing Practical Approaches to Social Justice Issues class. We spoke to them about how data informs the early stages of social impact initiatives and how it can help build momentum for change. It was great to meet such a passionate group of students & we cant wait to be working alongside you in the sector!

12.01.2022 Identifying children who face challenges that put them at risk of future offending can be a powerful tool - but ONLY if we get these young people the RIGHT SUPPORT. Preventive, trauma-informed support to improve self-regulation, emotional wellbeing, social skills, family support and address poverty while ensuring educational engagement & community belonging can help steer these children away from crime to begin with. Punitive approaches do not - in fact, they do the opposit...e. This is why you won't find our tools to identify young people with complex needs online - we must ensure work works is used to help vulnerable young people -not harass them.

11.01.2022 Have you checked out the YPP Website recently? We've had a bit of an update, making it the most useful place to get a run-down of the current work of the YPP! Check it out here: http://youthpartnershipproject.org.au

11.01.2022 A quick message from the Commissioner to WA children and young people on what he has heard from them recently.

11.01.2022 YPP Interns like Nothando have been a huge asset to our work over the years! They help us achieve what wouldn't be possible otherwise, and bring new perspectives and unique skills to our team. Congratulations to The McCusker Centre for Citizenship at UWA on your 1000 internships!

10.01.2022 How great are the Shire of Halls Creek's Youth Engagement Night Officers, as part of #OlabudDoogethu, their Social Reinvestment WA project?! An excellent example of a smarter, preventative approach to youth justice.

09.01.2022 Guess which bestest boy is working for the YPP today? #TedIsBack #OfficeDogs

09.01.2022 WANTED: Project Lead - Family Support Were looking for an experienced, driven individual to join our team and create meaningful change for young people in Perths south-east corridor. In this leadership role, youll coordinate an integrated case management approach that supports young people and families in a holistic and responsive manner. Follow this link for all the details: https://bit.ly/2Y5PtaH

08.01.2022 Whether in youth justice or education, punitive punishments aren't an effective solution. The most important thing schools need to do to help kids succeed is to build a strong sense of belonging and safety: especially for those who are least engaged. Policies for mandatory suspension in particular, don't allow schools to make decisions in children's best interests.

07.01.2022 The Champion Centre are hosting a great Twilight Event this Wednesday evening. Make sure you check it out!

05.01.2022 We had a great morning at Social Reinvestment WA's Youth Justice Sector Workshop this morning - rethinking what youth justice is all about and exploring how we can better support our young people & their communities!

05.01.2022 Were pleased to share that last week, the Youth Partnership Project was awarded $1.5 million in funding from the Paul Ramsay Foundation, investing in our critical work with young people with complex needs. This funding to help break cycles of disadvantage in Australia, will allow us to continue and extend the Youth Partnership Projects work over the next 16 months, identifying and supporting vulnerable young people across the Cities of Armadale and Gosnells. In this time, ...we will be consolidating our model, while aiming to prevent early contact with the justice system which we know leads to further and often escalating offending. Excitingly, a partnership with the Centre for Evidence and Implementation will give us the opportunity to provide an evidence-base for the interventions Save the Children Australias youth workers use to build young peoples social and emotional wellbeing and develop their life skills things we know make such a significant difference to their outcomes. Thanks to all our partners who have helped make this happen for our community, including: Public education in Western Australia, Armadale District - WA Police Force, Department of Communities, Department of Communities - Child Protection and Family Support, City of Armadale, City of Gosnells (City of Gosnells Youth Services), Department of Justice WA, Sport and Recreation, WA, Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia, Hope Community Services & more!

04.01.2022 We're searching for a family support worker If you know a skilled professional that's passionate about walking alongside families, make sure you send them this link! https://www.seek.com.au/job/50399398

02.01.2022 So great to be able to catch up with the City of Armadale Armadale Youth Network this morning, and share the results of the YPP Pilot over the last two years! Meeting online is not quite the same as in-person, but still so good to be able to catch up with all our fellow youth services!

01.01.2022 A huge congratulations to all our colleagues at Social Reinvestment WA who have been instrumental in making this new legislation a reality, making the justice system more just for all.
