23.01.2022 We hear so much about kids who get into trouble, it is time we acknowledged parental responsibility. Tara Moss is right on the button with this article.

21.01.2022 Great analysis of what it takes to form a habit. I paticularly like the William James quote at the beginning Could the young but realize how soon they will become mere walking bundles of habits, they would give more heed to their conduct while in the plastic state, https://www.brainpickings.org//how-long-it-takes-to-form-/

16.01.2022 Great teaching derives not from the curriculum, the latest buzzwords or programs (think "scaffolding" and "positive education", etc.), and certainly not from the latest technology. Great teaching derives from great teachers. Those who know their subject enough, but strive to know their students comprehensively; those who embody enthusiasm for their topics and passion for the best outcomes for each of their charges. I recently received a letter that was sent by a graduating h...igh school student to one of his teachers, it could be well used as a road map for the key elements of successful teaching for our student educators. "Dear - the best teacher ever, I want to thank you for all that you have taught me, not only in Biology and Chemistry, but in life. You taught me resilience, perseverance and determination. You showed me it's never the end of the world, even if that's how I. felt. You taught me to calm down, take a deep breath and smile. You taught me to believe in myself. You helped me learn to be OK with uncertainty. You taught me the importance of laughing and simply enjoying life, instead of worrying about. ..literally everything! You showed me that life isn't about a mark on a Gas Laws or Genetics exam. In fact, it's about not giving up. It's about the relationships you make and the person you choose to be. These lessons that you've taught me in just a couple years have shaped me for a lifetime. I want to thank you for all of them, because they have let me live my dream. I think very few students have a teacher who is as loving, caring, encouraging, supportive, kind, helpful, involved, passionate and approachable as you are. Fortunately, I got to be one of those few students, thanks to you. I hope I have been able to make you proud. I can't believe how insanely lucky I have been to have had a teacher like you in my lifetime. I wanted you to know that you've truly changed my life, and made me who I am. For this, I could not be happier and more grateful. With love, a smile and admiration"

15.01.2022 An excellent analysis of the real source of disadvantage in education. There always exceptions, and thank God for them, but children who grow up in unstable, insecure, unhappy households are always going to struggle to engageme in school life, let alone learn. Add being surrounded by the co-dependant monsters of alcohol and other drug abuse and domestic violence and you have a recipe for a self perpetuating fall into under-performance, loss of hope and loss of ambition. We a...bsolutely must push more money to education, but where it will really make a difference: 1) To parental education, especially to pre-primary & primary school parents, about what good parenting looks like and takes to achieve; 2) To children aged 10 - 16 about what successful family & relationships look like and how to ensure that they set themselves on that path; 3) to teachers, not for training because the majority are excellent, but to classroom management and student care support so the teachers can devote themselves to their job (and passion) - building knowledge and a hunger for learning in kids. 12.01.2022 Some excellent advice for parents on the other side of cyber bullying, those whose child is the bully http://blog.webwatcher.com//what-to-do-when-your-teen-is/

08.01.2022 Now here is a young man who is an example for all generations, with a message that we should all heed. Be sure to watch to the end!

07.01.2022 Sometimes it is really great to hear that the impact of the sessions is much ore than all the laughter and fun. I received this note today about a session in a remote area: Graham, after your presentation I received some feedback from a councillor about one of the students who attended. This young person was in your group in the morning from a small regional school. They had lost their father in a helicopter accident not that long before the summit. The student was struggling... at school as a result, became very unresponsive during that period, and didn't want to attend the summit. The Councillor had the mother of the student on the phone a few days afterward the summit in tears. The mother told her how much the day gave confidence back to her child and that they walked away feeling inspired and with a new lease on life. In one way or another Graham you made a difference in this young person's life when they needed it the most. What you do is unmeasurable and often goes unnoticed because the change is on the inside. please know that your presentation, your kindness, your energy and your willingness to be relevant to your target audience is an exceptional experience to be a part of. 06.01.2022 Really sensible, practical advice. Well worth a read, then regular re-read by all parents of teens

06.01.2022 What a tragic outcome, it might be rare but is a small temporary buzz ever worth a potential disability like this? Jordy has been brave and honest. How many others are equally damaged but never seen by the public?

05.01.2022 An excellent article from The Times that would be an uncomfortable, but very pertinent discussion starter with year 10 - 12 boys

03.01.2022 Here is some great advice on dealing with stress, invaluable for students and teachers alike

02.01.2022 Great article with excellent research about the impact of smartphones on learning, memory and attention spans. Scientific justification for what teachers instinctively know.
