24.01.2022 The vagus nerve is key in healing from trauma + creating overall wellbeing. The vagus nerve is actually a bundle of nerves that begins at the brain stream + con...nects to all of our organs. It’s the pathway of communication between the brain, the nervous system, + the gut (also known as the gut-brain axis. In short: the vagus nerve IS the mind-body connection. When we have unresolved trauma, the vagal tone becomes weak. A weak vagal tone is linked to high inflammation (scientifically linked to all psychiatric illness), chronic illness, digestive issues, cardiovascular disease etc. Having a weak vagal tone means we don’t recover from stress quickly + are stuck in nervous system fight, freeze, or shutdown. A strong vagal tone is associated with emotional stability, low inflammation, a feeling of wellbeing, + improved bodily function. Vagal tone stimulators are now being inserted in hospitals, but the good news is you can heal your vagal tone with daily commitment. This information is incredibly important please share this with people you love. For more on this: see my blog post Vagus Nerve: a path to healing. Or my YouTube video The Trauma Nerve. To go even deeper, research Polyvagal Theory (Stephen Porges) + check out the book The Body Keep Score. Your body was made to heal #selfhealers

10.01.2022 Relaxation science 101. The spine, as our central axis of support and energy information highway in the body, is top priority to consider in terms of healthy daily movement. Author of several best selling books and long time yoga teacher, Judith Hanson Lasater PHD, considers C7 (the 7th cervical vertebrae (the junction of the neck and trunk) to be THE priority part of the spine to support in Restorative Yoga. Most restorative poses will be chin down to stimulate the parasym...pathetic nervous system which promotes more of a calming relaxing and meditative effect. C7 is a vital axis to care for in the goal of creating more calm. Try this simple experiment with your body. In a sitting position, lift your chin and notice a sense of being more alert. Now drop your chin a little toward your chest and notice the change. Our breath becomes more soft. The front of the throat can relax and so too then can the chest and abdomen. The mind and nervous system become more quiet. Join us in our next Restorative Yoga mini-retreat October 11th (see our event page for details) and feel what deep resting of the body and mind can do for you

01.01.2022 Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra it is also known as Mahamrityunjay Mantra, Rudra Mantra, Om Tryambakam Yajamahe, the Great Death-Conquering mantra or Maha Sanjivini Mantra is the great mantra dedicated to Lord Shiva. Moreover, it is sometimes known as the Mrita-Sanjivini mantra because it is an essential component of the life-restoring practice given to the primordial sage Shukra after he had completed and mental and physical demanding long period of austerity. This soothing mantra... is from the Vedas. It is written in the Yajur Veda (3-60). This potent mantra worships a three-eyed deity frequently identified with Shiva The Auspicious One. It was a secret mantra, and it was the only Rishi Markandeya (from the Hindu tradition) in the world who knew about Maha Sanjivini mantra. The Moon was once in trouble, cursed by King Daksha (son of Lord Brahma). Rishi Markandeya gave this powerful mantra to daksha’s daughter, Sati for the life of Moon. Additionally, this mantra is highly respected by the sages as the heart of the Veda. Along with the amazing Gayatri mantra, it holds the highest place among the many mantras used for meditation and contemplation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8YpN30HSgo
