22.01.2022 According to AWRE, Australians are the 2nd highest producers of waste per person in the world. A shocking amount of 327,000 tonnes of bio-solids are produced annually in Australia. These are sent to landfills only to encourage emission of greenhouse gases and occupy valuable land. RMIT Universitys research demonstrated that by incorporating bio-solids into brickwork production, we can recycle bio-solid waste whilst manufacturing bricks at 50% of energy required and at a lower cost. LaFargeHolcim and Solidia have created a new concrete in precast concrete that absorbs CO2 as it cures, potentially reducing an overall carbon footprint of 70% as well as the curing from 28 days to 24 hours.
