16.01.2022 For people who experience social anxiety, the return to ‘normal’ life after lock down may feel challenging. With many places opening back up after lock down, many people are enjoying life going back to ‘normal’ (albeit a ‘new normal’). But this isn’t the case for everyone. For those who experience social anxiety, the lock down period may have brought reprieve from daily face-to-face interactions, and the thought of going back into the wider community post-pandemic may feel hard. 14.01.2022 After months of being at home it is time to go out and safely explore our community. Walking with our children is a no cost activity that provides opportunities to get our bodies moving, connect with nature, say hi to neighbours, use our senses to smell, hear, see and touch, use language to describe and spend time together. You could take a walk in your community or explore some of the suggestions from Parks Victoria that are child and family friendly. https://www.victoriawalks.org.au/NaturePlayWalks/

11.01.2022 Toddler communication is its own special language, one that isn’t always easy to understand. Implementing positive communication approaches supports children’s development and can help defuse tantrums. What is positive communication? It can include things like: providing clear direction, labeling and validating a child's feelings, offering choice to support independence, providing consistency and positive attention, being specific about safety and taking a moment to breathe. This article from Child Mind suggests simple ways to make talking to toddlers more effective. https://childmind.org/article/talking-to-toddlers/
