21.01.2022 Locals fighting to save decades-old MTB trails in Wonthaggi

20.01.2022 Don’t forget our working bee this weekend! Sunday at 8:30am, greygum carpark off Stonyford rd. Please make sure you register on Parks connect. If you’ve got a shovel, mattock, rakho please bring it, and PPE is essential! Gloves, eyewear, good footwear, and it may be soggy so a raincoat is advised. Link is in our bio for Parks connect registration. Thanks all!

18.01.2022 Important update RE Warburton Mountain Bike Destination Project - the project has hit a road block and needs your help to get over the line. The project is fully funded with an extensive master plan playing extremely close attention to the ecology and the sensitivity of the environment. The ideology is to create an eco-tourism product that can co-exist with, and bring value to, the beautiful Upper Yarra Ranges. The project is currently held up in planning with DEWLP in the EE...S referral process. There is a statutory 20 day response for projects submitted - we have been waiting since December 2019 with no formal response as of yet. Similar projects have been passed with little to no EES hassles - take for example the Grampian Peaks walking trail, which consisted of over 140km of hiking trail with campsites constructed in the Grampians NP. As mountain bikers we want to enjoy the environment, our bikes are tools to get us into these beautiful areas so we can strengthen our appreciation of them, and to introduce others to the beauty of these areas. Please head to our Facebook page where we have an email template and a list of ministers so you can show support for this project. The link is in the bio of our Instagram profile. Please share this post to help us gain support for this project. Photo of Yarra Valley local rider, @davehabicht1 by @andrewhowieson_fit See more

18.01.2022 Apparently we will be informed about whether Warramate trails will be allowed in June, when the outcomes from the Yellingbo Conservation area consultations will be announced. We are not holding our breath, as this has been strung out since 2014, with one public land manager handing it to the next. We would hope and expect that the decision will be based on scientific evidence of the impact of MTBing, which, with a well built track, is not significantly different to bushwalkin...g, which is currently allowed. And we would expect a public consultation would be decided by the majority vote, in this case a larger of number of people supported riding compared to those opposed. However, we have lost confidence in the democratic process. We encourage you to still go gravel riding on the fire roads there, in up to groups of ten. Incidentally the management vehicle road 1 metre next to the creek is completely unenvironmental, having a major negative impact on the riparian flora and fauna zone. So let’s see how consistent the authorities are with trails in the reserve.

18.01.2022 Due to the high volume of rain, the MTB Trails are closed. Please don't ride at Silvan, its way too wet. We'll keep you posted.

16.01.2022 Jersey update: The New Jerseys should be in store in about 9-10 weeks, so keep an eye out around the end of November. Thanks for your patience!

15.01.2022 Don’t forget to order your super cool awesome sendy great value DHaRCO MTB jersey ASAP! Order by 7th September at yrmtb.com.au to be in the first shipment!! Wahoo!

14.01.2022 Update 4:17pm: Yarra Ranges IS included in greater metro melbourne and under stage three restrictions. Further information is available here: https://www.vic.gov.au/coronavirus-covid-19-restrictions-vi It’s with regret that we inform you all the working bee scheduled for this Sunday, 12/7 at the Silvan trail network has been postponed due to the number of increasing cases of COVID19. We understand not every region is under the same restrictions, specifically silvan being a ...part of Yarra Ranges shire and therefore not as of yet under stage 3 lockdown restrictions. At the moment however we feel it’d be irresponsible and unethical of us to hold a working bee, especially given a large number of our members will not be able to attend. We will continue to cross our fingers and toes that we are able to host something soon, and will update you all when the situation changes. Stay healthy, be nice to each other and wash your hands! We look forward to being able to share the trails with you all again, hopefully sooner rather than later See more

14.01.2022 For all of you riders who are keen to help with trail maintenance, we need you to register with Parks, and then you will be covered by insurance. Go to: https://www.parkconnect.vic.gov.au/Account/Login/Register and fill out your details. YRMTB will soon be listed on the Parks list of volunteer groups, and a working bee will be happening soon - Parks have given the green light, we just need to confirm numbers allowed on Monday

14.01.2022 URGENT Hi trail enthusiasts! As you know we've been advocating hard for the Warburton Mountain Bike Destination for over half a decade now, and we are SO close to sealing the deal. As you're all aware, the project was halted as an Environmental effects statement was requested. What is supposed to be a statutory 20 day response period was delayed almost 6 months. This was largely a result of the tragic and (we can't stress this enough) far more important bushfire tragedy expe...Continue reading

13.01.2022 Put it in the diary, our last race of the year! Silvan Flowduro 5th & 6th Dec, depending on Covid restrictions (& thus Parks giving it the green light). Xmas fun and frivolity included. This is a great intro to gravity Enduro racing, anyone will be able to ride the trails. We’ve got the super experienced Rocky Trail team helping us out. Here is the official link to event page https://rockytrailentertainment.com//2020-events-v/silvan/

12.01.2022 This excellent article by Flow Mountain bike gives a comprehensive summary of the Warburton situation https://flowmountainbike.com/f/story-warburton-mtb-project/

11.01.2022 Jerseys, ! for those of you who have ordered Dharco club jerseys or want jerseys (there will be a small number available), the jerseys are due to arrive at the end of November! We will let you know when they are ready for collection from Yarra Valley Cycles Lilydale , yeewww.

11.01.2022 It has been confirmed that the Warburton Mountain Bike project is going to have a full Environmental Effects Statement carried out. YRMTB supports environmentally appropriate trails. However it is a pity that this potential issue wasn't foreseen before publicising the project timeline. There won't be any new trails for sometime. YRMTB will focus on our current trails. https://www.rideyarraranges.com.au/environmental-values-at/

09.01.2022 Dont forget the Silvan working bee this Sunday, meet 8:30am at the Grey Gum carpark (below the Silvan reservoir carpark). Bring hat, water, snacks, tools such as rake, rake-hoe, mattock, spade, brushcutter. Please register at 'Parkconnect.vic.gov.au' through Yarra Ranges Mountain Bikers club. see you there!

08.01.2022 The story of Downieville, California is a fantastic example of the economic, socioeconomic and community benefits Mountain Bike infrastructure and tourism can bring to mountain communities. Helping to create appreciation and awareness for these amazing environments is just one of the many benefits the trails can facilitate for future generations.

08.01.2022 We are still waiting for the ministerial decision regarding an Environmental Effects Statement process to be done for the Warburton MTB destination. We are no longer optimistic and are seeking explanation for this project not going ahead on time as planned. A monumental disappointment to say the least. We are requesting a statement from Council regarding the situation as they are the ones responsible for the original planning, design and development of the project.

08.01.2022 Temporary restrictions to Silvan trails due to wet weather. Dear Silvan mountain bikers, lets keep the Silvan trails nice, so please don't ride the trails in the southern section, from the Reservoir entrance, eg Delta 4 and surrounds. The trails to the north/Mt Evelyn end are a better choice, but give them a day or two to dry out after rain. Thanks

05.01.2022 Wahoo, jerseys are here!! If you have prepaid for a jersey you can collect it from Yarra Valley Cycles in Lilydale. Please show your receipt of purchase. We have a few spare jerseys in each size so if you missed out on ordering one you can call in to check if your size is available and then pay for it on the club website, and pop it on, look cool and go shredding!!

05.01.2022 Don't forget, if you haven't yet provided community feedback for the Warburton Mountain Bike Project you've got until the 21st of this month to do so! Every piece of support is absolutely vital to show the demand for this trail development. Please take the time to fill this out and encourage your friends, family and riding friends to do so as well! Thanks everyone... https://www.rideyarraranges.com.au/community-feedback-to-/

04.01.2022 There are planned burns today at Silvan south of Olinda creek road. Informal trails in that area (JJs, Delta, broken bottles, Lyre Lyre) are close by so it is advised not to ride them. Plannedburns.ffm.vic.gov.au

03.01.2022 Help get new trails formalised at Silvan. YRMTB have been in continuous discussions with Parks regarding the informal trail network at Silvan, with view to getting them formalised, and ideally we would like to see an expanded network. To hear more detail of the situation, and help the cause, join the club YRMTB.com.au for only $25 (the cost of two tubes) and get the latest newsletter! ... Its going to cost approximately $20,000 to get all the community consultations, cultural and environmental assessments done, and Parks have limited resources. We are calling on the local member, James Merlino to get support at the parliamentary level, ie put mountain biking as a priority, which will help re-boot the economy in the region. Please write to the minister, [email protected] to ask him to support MTBing at Silvan. Here's a guideline letter to write: Dear Mr Merlino, I am writing to ask for your assistance in progressing mountain biking in the Silvan region of the Dandenong Ranges. The current trail network asset has approximately 15km of trail formalised by Parks Vic and 12km of informal trails that have not yet been approved. There is no clear avenue to create more mountain bike trails, which are desperately needed for the increased rider demand. Mountain biking provides both health benefits and economic benefits. With the Covid crisis, the need for hope and support is critical. I request that you assist at the parliamentary level such that Parks Vic receive direction and resources to facilitate the approval and building of more trails. I request that you assist in getting Parks Victoria to approve the current trail submission by Yarra Ranges Mountain Bikers which was been submitted a year ago.Currently there appears to be limited capacity of Parks to support mountain biking. Mountain biking is one of the biggest growing sports, and by backing it, the local economy would be supported. Yours Sincerely

01.01.2022 Silvan maintenance - we are finding out from Parks when we can have a maintenance day - stay tuned. Also, regarding chainsaw use, Parks require users to have a ticket and you need to let us know that you have one and that you are going to clear fallen trees, and then you will be registered and insured if you go in. We are going to have a training day for those people who know how to use a chainsaw but dont have a ticket. PM us to let us know if you want to attend. In relation to that, we are looking for a qualified person to do the training and authorisation of our volunteers - so if there is someone out there, get in touch. thanks -the trail fairy supervisor
