25.01.2022 As we are all aware we are living through a difficult time and everything about it is brand new to everyone. As a club we have responsibilities to our members and to the public with whom we deal. For the benefit of all we must take steps to protect everyone and to keep us safe. The committee of Y Rowing Club have made the decision to close our club to members of the public. This means our Come & Try, A-Squad and Learn 2 Row sessions will not take place until further notice. S...chool Girls rowing has been cancelled for this term. We will continue to monitor the situation and work with the schools, Rowing Victoria and the experts before deciding what will happen for the next school term. Members are welcome to come to the club and to continue with their rowing - please take extra precautions such as frequently washing hands with soap; wiping down oars, ergo handles and gym equipment after use - where possible and as much as possible practicing social distancing - what better time to learn to single scull! Good advice link is https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/victorian-public-coronavirus-di Albert Park will be open again on Friday 20th March 2020. At this time the bridge is still across but you can still get out for a row. Please note that Rowing Victoria has emailed to advise all regattas for the rest of the season have been cancelled. This includes the Albert Park Lake Regatta. We do ask that you adhere to all the precautions that have been advertised and that if you do feel that you have symptoms i.e. cough shortness of breath or fever that you do not attend the club. Please remember that we are all responsible for the health of not only yourself, but of all our members, and families and the community. We rely on good common sense and preventative measures. We will continue to monitor the continually changing advice, regulations and precautions from the health practitioners and the government regulations. Things are changing daily and we will do our best to keep the club and its members informed with new directions or decisions. We thank you for your cooperation. The Committee Y ROWING Inc

22.01.2022 These times are incredibly tough. If you can’t catch up with a crew member to talk about it, remember there’s other avenues to get some support to get you through this. #yougotthis #itsokaytonotbeokay #crewmates #supporteachother

22.01.2022 Rowing Australia today announced our Vice President, Kath Bennett, has been awarded Rowing Australia’s highest honour of Life Membership. They wrote Kath Bennett has had an illustrious and long rowing career that began back in 1965. Bennett has held many roles in Australian rowing, including being the Women’s Team Manager at the 1975 World Rowing Championships and coaching multiple Victorian interstate and club crews. Bennett, a proud Victorian, and member of YWCA Rowing Cl...ub, is known well for the great work she undertook in the rejuvenation of women’s rowing in the period of the mid-1960s, which led to her instrumental role in the amalgamation of the men’s and women’s federations which occurred in 1979 (Rowing Australia). Congratulations Kath, a well deserved award, the Y Rowing Club is a true testament to all your hard work in Women’s rowing. #lifemember #rowingaustralia #rowingvictoria #womeninrowing #womeninspiringwomen

13.01.2022 You heard the news? There’s a FINISH LINE to no crew boat rowing!! 13.01.2022 The gym will reopen on Saturday 26th June (with some restrictions). Any member wishing to use either the gym or a single scull MUST book online. Please read and adhere to the guidelines listed above the booking form. Any issues using the online booking form contact the committee and they’ll be happy to assist.... Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we all adjust to the new rules.

07.01.2022 It is with sincere regret that we advise all members that we are suspending our operations in accordance with the recommendations of Rowing Australia, Rowing Victoria and both the Federal and State Governments. We do not make this decision lightly, but in the interests of the health and wellbeing of all our members as well as the broader community, the committee feels this is the only decision we can make at this time. Access to the entire club including the rooms, boat sheds..., changing rooms, boats, oars, gym equipment and ergos is no longer permitted. If you have personal items in the club rooms you may go and collect them if required. The club will continue to exist and the committee is working hard to ensure we are able to resume operations when it is appropriate to do so as advised by the relevant authorities and organisations. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We will keep you informed as best as we can. The Committee

06.01.2022 To comply with the recent announcement, the club is completely closed from Wednesday evening until further notice. Thank you to all of the members who had been following the strict guidelines we had in place. When we are allowed, we’ll be sure to implement procedures to get us all on the water again.

05.01.2022 It’s with great pleasure that we can announce that the Club will re-open (with restrictions) on Thursday 29th October. The good news is you can row in crews, and your regular boats are available. As with everything at the moment, there are conditions and regulations we need to meet to ensure everyone’s safety. They are very specific so please check your email for full details. ... #weareback #timetorow #wedidit

04.01.2022 Today, the committee would like to acknowledge the considerable contribution MJ has made holding the position of club President for the past 10 years. When you meet MJ, her generous smile and friendly voice instantly put you at ease. Whether you’ve just arrived for a Come and Try session, your regular Wed night A squad, or you’ve been kicking around the club for some time, she treats everyone with the same warmth and welcome. After all, if you’re at the club, you’re one of h...er tribe. You’re a rower. That distinctive silver charm that she wears around her neck says much about her passion for the sport. If she’s rowing, she’s happy. If she’s walking around the lake where she rows, she’s happy. If she’s cycling to the lake where she rows, she’s happy. Sculling, sweeping, singles, crews, early mornings, evenings, mid-week, weekends - she rows it all. To thank MJ for her contributions to Y Rowing, we would like to do two things. Firstly, present her with a wooden oar. We are fortunate to have a number of these at the club, and we would like to clean up the oar of MJ’s choice and present it to her. But secondly, we would like to award her with life membership to the club. Thank you so much MJ.

02.01.2022 Not your normal Y Rowing Club AGM!!! #whatayear #makingithappen #herestonextyear
