13.01.2022 Instagram is officially launching its answer to popular video app TikTok Instagram Reels. We sat in on an exclusive brief with Instagram earlier this week, and here are our quick thoughts: Our Favourite Factor: The videos will be curated by humans, not AI, meaning that the videos presented to kids will be determined by a person and not purely an algorithm. This means that any dangerous or distressing content may be moderated a lot quicker than apps like Tik Tok, and content... supporting wellbeing will be prioritised (which we LOVE!). Possible Risk Factor: Reels will focus more on viewing and posting content that is predominately public, as the purpose is to get on board with viral trends. This can be fun, but because Reels is much more about global trends than just viewing content from people who follow, young people will likely be exposed to the broader global community and any types of interesting characters that are within that. For young children, parents should be vigilant about what they are posting and who they may be interacting with. On the plus side, if privacy settings are turned on young people can share Reels only to their feed, so only their followers will see the Reels that they are posting. Were excited to see how Reels evolves. What do you think about the new feature?

01.01.2022 Think Tik Tok is safe for young kids? There are two things wrong with this image, can you spot them? 1. These videos are popping up on the public page of Tik Tok, and is linked to a highly graphic pornographic site. 2. The owner of this profile is stealing videos from popular Tik Tokers (usually teenage girls) & claiming that these girls are dancing naked on the site. This isnt true, however. What is actually happening is that these poor unfortunate girls are being used as... bait to get more people to visit the link. We have reported this page to Tik Tok. However, we do not recommend that people under 13 use Tik Tok, due to inappropriate content and links such as this.

01.01.2022 *Trigger Warning* - An important TikTok warning for parents this morning: There are reports that a graphic video has been circulating on TikTok today of a man taking his own life by shooting himself with a gun. We suggest that kids do not use TikTok today to give the original video and videos that have been reposted time to be taken down by the platforms. The video has also been thought to be circulating on Instagram and Twitter.
