21.01.2022 Well this is week four of our shut down. I have decided to do something a bit different this time. I have a roll of canvas in my studio, and I have cut off a 6 x 4 piece. Usually I use one of the prepared stretched canvases I have. Because of the size of the canvas it will be easier to paint flat, and stretch it when I am finished. I am preparing the canvas with a black base paint. I am going to do one of my celestial paintings. Celestial images play a big part in Aboriginal Lore or (the dreaming). I will keep you informed of what I am doing and we will talk a bit more about Aboriginal Lore when I get started.

21.01.2022 With the gallery being closed I have been able to concentrate on my art. My next creation, Journey in Cultural Discovery is well underway.

20.01.2022 When I started painting my current Celestial Image, I said I would explain what Aboriginal Lore is: What is Aboriginal lore? The term lore refers to the customs and stories the Aboriginal peoples learned from the Dreamtime. Aboriginal lore was passed on through the generations through songs, stories and dance and it governed all aspects of traditional life. It is common to see the terms law and lore being used interchangeably. What is the importance of Aboriginal law an...d kinship? A persons position in the kinship system establishes their relationship to others and to the universe, prescribing their responsibilities towards other people, the land and natural resources. Traditional kinship structures remain important in many Indigenous communities today. How does kinship relate to the dreaming? Aboriginal kinship is an integral part of The Dreaming, as are people themselves and their land (or country as its known). Ones place in the kinship system also determines ones rights and obligations with respect to other people, country, and artistic expression.

20.01.2022 This painting is called The Thief. The story behind it is, when the Yuin people saw Captain Cooks boat coming up the coast, they thought it looked like a big Pelican. The Pelican is know to the Yuin people as the thief, and they thought this Pelican was going to take their children. The painting is now hanging in the gallery waiting for the time when we can open to the public.

18.01.2022 We are up to week 8 with the shut down. Have been making some progress with my latest creation. I showed you the blank 6x4 canvas painted black, well I am well down the track with this one. This painting relates to Women . Will tell you more when it is finished. Lot of work in this one.

18.01.2022 For those of you that perhaps do not know what Terra Nullius means, I have listed a meaning below for you. This leads into why all First Australians want a treaty and to be part of the constitution. Terra Nullius means land that is legally deemed to be unoccupied or uninhabited. In Australia the question of whether British colonizers had regarded the continent as terra nullius at the time of the original settlement, and, if so, whether this was a proper designation, was at t...he centre of several important legal cases in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Terra nullius - is a Latin expression meaning "nobodys land". It was a principle sometimes used in international law to justify claims that territory may be acquired by a states occupation of it. Below is the 2nd painting I did called The truth about Terra Nullius

14.01.2022 So how is everyone coping with the shut down of the world. I have to say I am certainly enjoying the break. I said to Wendy this morning, the weeks are going a little slower with more time to enjoy what is happening around us. Since we opened the gallery two and a half years ago the time has just flown past. This world wide shut down has certainly made us slow down. There is a lot of sorry for those that are suffering financially, and physically from a range of situations, we have to connect with these people to ensure they are ok. Wendy and I are thinking of you all and trust you are ok. We are only a phone call away.

13.01.2022 Finished my painting today, just waiting for it to dry so I can seal the work. This painting tells the story of my journey through Central Australia while I was studying at Griffith University. It tells of my journey to my cultural understanding, and my connection to Aboriginal Australia.

13.01.2022 https://youtu.be/YbkuIdEc7j4 Reference first sighting of Captain Cook. It was our mob that took the message stick to tell them he was on his way.

13.01.2022 Well this is week one we have been closed, very strange feeling after being so busy everyday with the gallery. Have chosen a canvas and have worked out what I am going to do. Will keep you posted.

12.01.2022 Announcement: With the current problems facing all of us, and with the gallery being shut, Gawura Gallery has decided to make our web site interactive and an on line shop. We have appointed a local lady to work on our site and bring it into the 21st century. Watch this space for an announcement when the gallery will go live. Hopefully by May we will be able to announce you can purchase on line.

11.01.2022 Check out the poles at the front of the Glen Innes Library. Well done to the ladies who painted them. Great Workshop.

10.01.2022 Day 2 of being back at work in the Gallery. Wonderful to see everyone again, plus our new visitors travelling around NSW. Good having the borders closed as the visitors are staying in the state. Image below is one of my paintings, Wallaga Lakes, count the flathead.

10.01.2022 The piece I am currently working on is more traditional than I usually do. Most of my works include a contemporary flavor. For example the one I have put with this post. This is a new piece I have just completed called The deception It is the story of Terra Nullus . I have done three of this theme - all a bit different with the same message. They sell as soon as I hang them. As you can see I have the map of Australia, a group of Aboriginal people, Captain Cook, with the balance of the painting in my dot style incorporating the traditional icons. This art style is Contemporary Indigenous.

06.01.2022 https://www.abc.net.au//indigenous-painter-lloyd-/12607234 Story on the ABC about my work going to Europe.

05.01.2022 Wendy and I would like to wish you all a safe virus free Easter. The internet and the phone are keeping us all in touch. Sad as it is we miss the hugs. Never mind, this will be all done and dusted soon enough, and I am sure we will be talking about it for the next 10 years.

05.01.2022 We are ready for the launch of the First Nations Festival tomorrow at 10am in the Town Square, Grey Street, Glen Innes. One of our dedicated committee members showing off our new banner.

04.01.2022 Proud moment for me, two of the workers at the University of New England hanging one of my painting "Reconciliation". My cousin Colin Ahoy works for the Indigenous Center, making a big difference in the lives of Aboriginal Students. This painting represents our family showing our DNA, being White, Chinese and Aboriginal.

03.01.2022 Just an update on our web site. It is under construction. We have organised to put our latest exhibition up on the new web site as a virtual exhibition. So if you cannot get to the gallery, you can enjoy the art and all of the stories about how the art came about. Not being a technical person, they tell me we should be up and running by mid July.

01.01.2022 The piece I am working on currently is a Salt Water creation. I get asked about pelicans quite a bit. So I thought I would incorporate Pelicans into my next Salt Water Works. Pelicans are very prevalent around Wallaga Lakes, so they are a nice fit.

01.01.2022 This is the end of week 2 of trading since the shut down. Wendy and I want to thank our lovely local community, and the visitors to Glen Innes for supporting our business. It has been great to see you all back here again, and having a catch up.

01.01.2022 Having a rest from painting today. I am gardening with Wendy today. Even though the weather is starting to cool and the trees starting to change color the grass and weeds are still growing. Our gardens have recovered after the dry spell we have just come out of. One of the things I love to do is sit on the back deck and watch the bees in the garden, they particularly like the lavender.
