24.01.2022 Our Support Coordination and Plan Management team have hit the road this week and headed out to beautiful Western Qld to visit participants in the Longreach, Barcaldine and Blackall/Tambo regions. Judging by the smiles on their faces we think they are enjoying the generous country hospitality and local sites.

24.01.2022 Qlds Chief Health Officer has today updated health directions for disability services across Qld. We welcome these directions and the inclusion of the disability sector in disaster management planning and response. Yumba Bimbi has had many of these directions (and more) in place since March to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of the people who access our services, our staff and community. 21.01.2022 This evening Yumba Bimbi Support Services held its AGM and elected the 2021 Board. Chair - Carmel Marshall Secretary - Michelle Hooper Treasurer - Bradley Stallard Board member - Peta Millar... Board member - Sandra Hobbs Board member - Kasey Wilson Board member - Leanne Thompson We would like to acknowledge and thank our outgoing Secretary Kerry Lee Ferguson for her work with our organisation over the past few years and her commitment to our organisation. Kerry Lee will be continuing as an organisation member and volunteer for YB. We also thank our outgoing and much loved Board member Lyn Brown who has served YB as both a Board member and as an Executive since 2014. Lyn’s quiet determination and steadfast leadership has been so greatly appreciated and she will be sorely missed. Lyn will also be continuing as a YB member and volunteer. We welcome Kasey Wilson to our YB Board. Kasey is a Solicitor at CQ Community Legal Centre Inc and her wealth of knowledge and practice in Law will be a welcomed addition to our governance. We welcome back to our Board Sandra Hobbs who brings a strong breadth of experience in governance, leadership, regional and economic development. On behalf of the YB operational team, participants and families we’d like to thank our Board of Management for their continued dedication to the Vision, Mission and Values of Yumba Bimbi. 2020 has been a particularly challenging year for Boards in the disability sector and we are so very proud and thankful that we have a Board who are dedicated first and foremost to the needs and aspirations of people with disabilities in our rural and remote communities, and a board who are so very well equipped in governance to lead us into an exciting future. 15.01.2022 As a disability provider Yumba Bimbi takes the current situation in Greater Brisbane and surrounds very seriously and we are taking added precautions to ensure safety. We are currently working to identify all staff who have travelled to these areas since the 2nd of January. YB will require those staff to immediately isolate and be COVID tested and not return to work until a negative result is returned. We realise that this may have cause some disruption to service over the coming days but our first priority is to keep our staff, participants and community safe. All participants and families will receive further communications this afternoon via email and/or phone call.

We have been quite saddened and disturbed today by the outcomes of the inquiry reported in The Royal Commission’s interim report which details violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability in many settings including education and health care.
