25.01.2022 HASTIES SWAMP BIRD HIDE A Twitcher's Paradise Firstly a Twitcher is a type of bird watcher who travels to sight as many species as possible and adds them to the list rather than making and recording detailed observations. There are 231 bird species recorded at Hasties Swamp. Unfortunately our arrival coincided with the visit of a White-bellied Sea-Egale. Most of the birdlife didn't want to hang around.

23.01.2022 The Curlew in our garden is not an ornament. It's alive. On the occasional evening there are more Curlews in the street than people. Yungaburra, where nature and people meet and manage to live together.

23.01.2022 FROG ROCK This photo was taken by my passenger as we travelled down the Gillies Range Road. Frog Rock has been there for many years and is a recognised landmark. For example Transport Department may advise the Gillies is closed, accident at Frog Rock. The unanswered question is 'Who is the painter and when was the work done?' It was recently repainted.

19.01.2022 YUNGABURRA TOURS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING In the light of Covid-19 and the necessity to keep our guests safe, we consider it vital that social distancing measures be observed. To achieve this we request guests travel in their own vehicles (self-drive). This means you will be driving a total of about 44klms (Yungaburra to Yungaburra) between tour highlights. We will take measures to ensure your drive goes smoothly with no one getting lost. In recognition of your self-drive we will provide an appropriate discount based on the number of people in your vehicle. Please contact us 0476 758 158 for more information.

10.01.2022 Yungaburra Tour Guests really enjoyed the cruise around Lake Barrine. Here is an example of the fascinating wildlife - fish, turtles, giant eels all being watched by the water dragons and wild ducks.

09.01.2022 ANOTHER GREAT DAY AT LAKE BARRINE If you visit Lake Barrine the Cruise around the Lake is a must. Our tour guests really enjoyed the cruise. Here are a few photos to highlight the visit.

08.01.2022 VISITORS FROM JAPAN A recent Yungaburra Heritage and Rainforest Tour included visitors from Japan. Our wide open spaces are such a contrast to their mega cities. One snippet of a great afternoon was our visit to Lake Barrine. A beautiful spot with its historical tea-house built by George Curry after he was granted a perpetual lease in 1923 and it has remained in the family to the present time. As a result the personal, friendly touch still prevails. A relaxing wander around t...akes you through beautiful gardens, giant 1,000 year old Kauri Pines and if you are energetic a 5 klm stroll around the lake. Another highlight of Lake Barrine was the ‘Unique, informative, relaxing rainforest and wildlife cruise around the volcanic brim’. The cruise was escorted by Black Ducks and Cormorants exploring the lake’s edge looking out for their dinner. At one secluded spot we were surprised by the large Eastern Water Dragon camouflaged on a log and the Long Finned Eels swimming with the fish and Saw- Shelled Turtles. After all this we were ready for relaxing with coffee and freshly made scones and a magnificent view of the lake. The reaction of our visitors from Japan We love this part of the world and would love to live here. If you have never been to Lake Barrine add it to the top of your ‘bucket list’.

08.01.2022 MOUNT HYPIPAMEE CRATER. Well worth the visit. Distinctly different to craters Lake Barrine and Lake Eacham. About 400 metres exercise to the Crater and then return. This deserves coffee and scones at Mungali.

04.01.2022 BUTTERFLIES - A RELAXING SIGHT Some years back I travelled on a number of occasions to Papua New Guinea to do work for the Law and Justice Sector. I found it a great place and had an enjoyable time with the people. At the conclusion of a five day Project Management Workshop in Goroka I was presented with a beautiful display of butterflies and moths. I found this humbling. If I had purchased the display as a tourist it would have cost me an ‘arm and a leg’. For these locals it... would have been expensive. They weren’t rich, in fact one lady daily walked an hour each way to the workshop. Needless to say it took some time for me and my precious butterflies to clear Australian Customs. In the Wet Tropics there are two butterflies I consider outstanding, the Ulysses and the Cairns Birdwing. I have a flowering Little Evodia to attract the Ulysses. I did have a Dutchman’s Pipe for the Birdwing but as it was not a native variety and would poison the butterfly I quickly removed it. It must be the native variety. By the way, I understand the Cairns Birdwing is the biggest butterfly in Australia and the PNG Birdwing the biggest in the world. ENJOY YOUR BUTTERFLIES. #butterflies #ulysses #cairnsbirdwing #birdwing #cairns #papuanewguinea #projectmanagement #goroka #littleevodia #dutchmanspipe #athertontableland #yungaburratours #wettropics

02.01.2022 A TRIBUTE TO THE TEAM I recently was a winner in the Wet Tropics Tour Guide Competition 2020. This was no easy task and with most successes there is a team involved. If you view my 6 minute video presentation, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gvydlut97Ag&t=16s it will become apparent it is the work of a team. While I was the author and presenter I would pay tribute to the other members of the team: Samuel Okposin, he produced some excellent photography. In the past I had seen... Samuel’s photographic work and knew ‘he is the man’. Ian Southall for his brilliant editing. Ian is a professional photographer. His family portraits are excellent. If you are looking for a photographer then Ian is your man. Contact Ian on 0404 996 558 To my team, thank you Karl Buderus See more
