25.01.2022 My latest procrastination... (Writing the thing on my blog below, not trying to get better at photography...)
24.01.2022 I’m retreating this weekend at the New Norcia Benedictine Community. No better time to get into Graham Hill’s new book ‘Holding Up Half The Sky’. I’m half way through and it is excellent, life-giving good news, very clearly explained. I need more pocket money so I can buy it for every person who asks me, is it okay for women to lead? (I’d hand out several every week!)... Full review coming soon!
20.01.2022 Sienna, from the toilet: "Mum, can you come here? I promise I'm not going to ask you to wipe my bum." Me: "what's up?" S: "I'm wondering what that is?" She points to something brown and fudgey stuck to the wheel of the ironing board. Me, wiping it off and sniffing it: "It's cake!"... Siennna: "Oh good! And while I've got you here, do you think that stain on the wall looks like a jetski?" It totally did! As soon as the last assignment is done, I need to do some housework. (This is not the first time cake has been mistaken for poo in my house.)
18.01.2022 Beautiful writing by my sister, Kath. She lives in a rural part of Mozambique.
17.01.2022 Happy 7th birthday, Sienna! The baby of our family is growing up so fast! Best with
16.01.2022 This morning this kid says, hey Mum, pretend I’m Siri. Ask me some questions. Me: why is my bottom itchy? Siri/ Sienna, without skipping a beat: You have worms.... #funnykids #parenting #idonthaveworms
09.01.2022 I am a little bit obsessed with identifying and trying to improve upon the weaknesses and flaws in my personality. It is a vain thing to which I seem to return; the relentless pursuit of self-improvement via self-loathing. One morning last week I sat in a café and wrote a long list of all the things I thought were wrong with my character. I’ll spare you the details... My latest blog post.
05.01.2022 The absence of playfulness in any institution is almost always a due to the degree of its emotional regression. - Edwin Freidman, A Failure of Nerve How playful is your workplace? One of my best "work" memories is tears of laughter with my boss Mike and my colleagues Sarah and Sally as we planned out our "bog-standard" Christmas service. ... If you're at work today, I challenge you to do something playful for a colleague. If playfulness is not a thing in your workplace... thoughts and prayers, my friend. x
03.01.2022 Leigh sent me this. I’m glad I took a few minutes to watch Mitch Tambo’s passionate and articulate speech on Q and A. He’s so right about it starting in the classroom. As an English teacher, I had the privilege of learning from my colleague Jenny Burton that literature can play a very powerful role in building empathy and understanding. I will be forever changed by the opportunity to share the writing of First Nations peoples with my students and to explore the themes of injustice, Stolen Generations and reconciliation. It’s disappointing that I didn’t learn these things until I had to teach them but I’m so glad I did. https://www.abc.net.au//mitch-tambo-indigenous-/100171968
03.01.2022 This is the face of a lady who just submitted her lit review. A day early. The same lady who thought she’d never get it done. This is the face of perseverance in the midst of struggle. (Okay, maybe that’s too much but I am quite proud.) One assignment to go and then it’s time for a rest.
