19.01.2022 This year, Namadgi School walked away with TWO awards from the Public Education Awards. Congratulations to both Gareth Richards, who was jointly awarded School Leader of the Year, and Dr Roisin Boadle who was awarded Secondary Teacher of the Year. Dr Boadle has pioneered STEM electives and actively identified, encouraged and supported girls in particular, to study in this area and in her role as a 9/10 Year Co-ordinator Dr Boadle has supported many students to improve their... wellbeing. Gareth is an exceptional school leader who works hard to make sure the experience of the staff, students and families at Namadgi is as positive, supportive and successful as possible. When the pandemic closed in, Gareth led the teaching team to deliver outstanding remote learning options from the first day. His own No assembly Friday videos brought humour, joy and hope in what was a difficult time for many and ensured the school community remained connected. Thank you to you both!

15.01.2022 This is a team effort. Ending violence against women starts with gender equality. Sport can be a vehicle for empowerment and change and that’s why we’re working with sporting organisations around Canberra to have better gender balance on their boards.... #16DaysofActivism
15.01.2022 When ACT Labor promised and delivered free chromebooks to every ACT public school secondary student I know what a difference it made ensuring every child had equal access to great technology based education. ACT Labor is committed to providing all students and their families, no matter their background, with the best possible start when it comes to their education. A re-elected Labor Government will commit to a $12 million Future of Education Equity Grants program that will ...support families who don’t always get the same equal chance in our school system with their educational expenses. 14.01.2022 The ACT is leading the nation in action on climate change. ACT Labor will keep doing the heavy lifting if re-elected with a Big Canberra Battery. ACT Labor’s Big Canberra Battery will deliver at least 250MW of battery storage that’s bigger than SA’s Hornsdale Battery! ... This battery will lower electricity prices and provide a more stable and resilient power grid. ACT Labor will also support more Canberra households to install solar through our $150 million zero-interest loan scheme. And low interest loans for non-government schools to make sustainability upgrades to their buildings such as solar. The ACT Labor Government already ensured that all public schools have solar panels and are trialling batteries at two schools - Margaret Hendry and Caroline Chisholm. All of this will mean Canberra will produce plenty of renewable energy to be stored and used when Canberrans need it. This five year $100 million commitment, along with Labor’s Sustainable Household, Sustainable Education Loan Schemes and significant investment in sustainable public infrastructure like schools will ensure that the ACT continues to lead the nation in action on climate change. And these projects will create many good, local enviro jobs.

10.01.2022 I love getting out to Canberra’s green spaces and getting out to weekend sports with my family, and there are always so many people out doing the same. Sportsgrounds, like schools, really become community hubs, a place where people can come together to cheer on the players and enjoy a fundraising barbie. Under an ACT Labor Government, the Molonglo Valley will see new sportsgrounds at Stromlo Forest Park.... The facility will include at least two playing fields, training lights, a pavilion and parking. To make sure infrastructure keeps up with this fast-growing area, ACT Labor will also: Work with the community to build a new library and community centre Build the John Gorton Drive bridge over the Molonglo River that will accommodate public transport and shared paths Expand public healthcare with a new walk in centre These are on top of the work already commenced for: a fire and ambulance station the Molonglo Commercial Centre the new school primary school set to open in 2021 the high school set to open in 2023
09.01.2022 There has been one new case of COVID-19 in Canberra today. A case of COVID-19 has been detected in the ACT related to the government-facilitated flight that arrived on 26 November. The new case is a woman in her 20s. She is being supported by ACT Health.... She originally tested positive for COVID-19 a month ago, whilst overseas and experiencing symptoms compatible with COVID-19 illness. She has since recovered from her acute illness. She returned a low positive result during routine testing on day one of mandatory quarantine. We believe this represents her old overseas-acquired infection. She is not considered infectious and contract tracing will not be required. No other COVID-19 positive tests have been reported from returned Australians from the government-facilitated flight on 26 November. The risk to hotel and government staff at the hotel from this case is deemed extremely low. Apart from stringent PPE and infection control processes, the ACT has instituted new measures to screen staff daily and conduct testing every seven days through a symptom surveillance program. ‘SCan: safeguarding Canberrans’ aims to detect any COVID-19 cases entering the ACT as early as possible and will help prevent any wider spread of the virus into the ACT community. Continue to: Stay 1.5 metres apart from others Wash/sanitise hands often Cover your cough with a tissue or the inside of your elbow Clean frequently touched surfaces Get tested if you have COVID-19 symptoms no matter how mild Stay home if you're unwell Download the COVIDSafe app www.covidsafe.gov.au and Check In CBR app www.covid19.act.gov.au/check-in-cbr For more information, visit www.covid19.act.gov.au

08.01.2022 ACT Labor supports young people to follow their dreams and achieve their aspirations. Providing pathways into work that inspires and excites them is so important, whether that’s through a university qualification, trade or other qualification. ACT Labor will pilot a program called Headstart for year 12 students from public schools to complete an apprenticeship.... 50 young Canberrans would be supported to take an extra year to complete college so they can start early training for a recognised qualification or trade. Apprenticeships develop the next generation of people who will provide important services to the community, particularly in building and construction, but other areas as well, as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s also important that young women have opportunities to get into non-traditional roles and this will be one way to encourage them to give it a go. The life outcomes of a student is the whole point of school and the education system. ACT Labor is committed to making sure that students have the skills that will help them succeed and achieve their dreams when they leave school.
