03.01.2022 Since it is November or Movember, I feel it is important to spread a little bit of awareness for Men's Mental Health. Yes Movember is about other things but for me mental health is what resonates the most. In my life, I have had my fair share of demons, I have been enveloped in darkness and have had dark thoughts. It's not something I wish on any living soul. As a male, I used to feel like I was not entitled to my emotions and that for me to express anything remotely emotion...al or to talk about feelings would be seen as feminine or 'girly'. I know many males of all generations would feel the exact same way, I know that many like me would be forced to hide and suppress the emotions that I feel and that I cannot control. I used to be angry at myself and think 'why do you need to feel anything? This doesn't make you a man' The consequence of me bottling up everything resulted in me facing thoughts that was equivalent to a nightmare but a nightmare I had to live through every day. I felt I couldn't express myself so my only option was to lash out at the ones closest to me and it hurt them and I couldn't take any of it back. I had to lose that person forever to realise that I was wrong and society was wrong. Men are entitled to their feelings, they are entitled to self expression and their mental health is just as important as everyone else's. My fellow brothers, don't be afraid to express yourself and don't be afraid to ask for help. We need to fight together and need to bring awareness into the world and make it a safer place.
