25.01.2022 When you’re doing your online shopping, do you ever stop to think where the product images come from? Well the answer may well be from right here in Warringah. SKUvantage in Balgowlah solves the problem of creating, managing and distributing product content for retailers and their suppliers, to help give consumers the information they need when buying products in digital channels - something of particular importance at the current time. It was great to go and meet with the team and see their operation. They have over 200 supplier and retailer clients and if you shop online with Woolworths, Coles, Chemist Warehouse and many other retailers, there is a pretty good chance you will be looking at product information that is being created or distributed right here in our own backyard.

24.01.2022 Traffic congestion has been getting steadily worse in Warringah for over 25 years. My team and I recognised this and conducted the Warringah Traffic Survey from June to August this year. Thanks to everyone who took part - the results are now in!! Visit my website to see the suburb by suburb statistics. It’s no surprise that the Northern Beaches Tunnel continues to be one of the biggest issues across the Warringah electorate. The survey shows that 44% of respondents sa...id that the Tunnel should be given the highest priority to help solve Warringah’s traffic challenge. And more than three quarters of people from Mosman, Neutral Bay, Cremorne, Seaforth and Balgowlah also wanted assurances about exhaust stacks being appropriately filtered to best practice standards. We still await the Environmental Impact Study and Business case for the tunnel but regardless, it is a long way off - in the meantime, we need other transport solutions. I’m wary about recent announcements for changes to local bus and ferry routes as well as moves towards privatisation of transport services. I have made inquiries about these recent announcements and will continue to advocate for efficient, reliable and properly funded public transport - it’s what the community of Warringah deserves! Solving the traffic and congestion puzzle is complex but all levels of government need to work together to deliver for the community. Find out what your suburb thinks about congestion and read the full results of the traffic survey here: https://www.zalisteggall.com.au/zali_steggall_survey_results

23.01.2022 Great to see Surfrider Foundation campaigning against PEP11. There is no place for oil and gas exploration off our coast. I presented the petition from Save Our Coast / Stop Seismic Testing in February to Parliament but the State and Federal Government are still not ruling out the renewal of the permit. This will be decided by Minister Pitt and Deputy Premier Barilaro. See here my letters to them, their responses and my speeches in Parliament. https://www.zalisteggall.com.au/...pep_11 So important for everyone to get involved, write to your state and federal MP and tell them what you think of drilling for gas off our coast!!! #StopPEP11 Surfrider Foundation Northern Beaches Pittwater Eco Adventures Surf Life Saving Sydney Northern Beaches Manly Observer Northern Beaches Advocate Manly Living The Manly Daily The Northern Beaches Review

23.01.2022 We’ve just had speeches in parliament on Energy Policy from Minister Angus Taylor MP and Shadow Minister Mark Butler MP and you would be forgiven for thinking we're living in alternate realities. Minister Taylor repeated the government’s talking points that we are smashing the 2020 Kyoto Target and has outlined how we will meet and beat Paris. Whilst Shadow Minister Butler says the government’s own data shows it will take 600 years for this government to get to net zero emi...ssions at its current emission reduction rates. Read these transcripts - Angus Taylor’s speech here: https://www.minister.industry.gov.au//australias-energy-fu And Mark Butler’s response: https://markbutler.net.au//ministerial-statement-response/ There is a race around the world towards Net Zero by 2050 but our Government is determined to put the handbrake on. On November 9 I am offering to release that handbrake by introducing the Climate Change Bill. Show your support today. Let’s get on with the job Climate Act Now

23.01.2022 Today I was honoured to second Helen Haines MP's Australian Federal Integrity Commission bills that she tabled in Parliament with the support of other crossbench members Andrew Wilkie MP - Independent Member for Clark, Rebekha Sharkie MP and Larissa Waters. This bill is well overdue. Having recently come to politics, I am amazed that there is no code of conduct for MPs. All MPs, ministers and departments should be held to a strong integrity standard, as are so many other professions. Day after day we see headlines of alleged corruption that need proper scrutiny - which is why we then held a press conference to call on Scott Morrison (ScoMo) to #bringondebate. If not now, then when?

23.01.2022 It’s important we all make our voice heard to demand an end to single use plastic. This petition belowis a great call to action for our Governments. Please read, sign and share it widely!

21.01.2022 These are the (accidentally leaked) talking points given to all Coalition MPs today on how to respond to questions about the National Integrity Commission. When voting for the major parties you are not voting for free thinking individuals to represent you: you are voting for a party line. I'm proud to be an independent and to serve Warringah based on what your needs are and will continue to push for accountability in federal politics.

20.01.2022 North Head Fire: NSW RFS firefighters last night were able to assist FRNSW and NPWS in holding the fire south along the North Head Scenic Drive and link it up w...ith a previously hazard reduced area near the ‘Hole in the Wall’ trail. National Parks and Wildlife crews will continue to patrol the area across the day. There were no threats to homes and there has been no reported injuries. Light rain has fallen across the fireground and while there is some smoke rising from the area fire activity today is expected to be minimal. Photo Shannon Mason NSW RFS See more

18.01.2022 The Climate Change Bill has been submitted this week and will be introduced on November 9! Thank you to the strong women of the Crossbench Helen Haines MP and Rebekha Sharkie MP for seconding the two bills that will legislate a sensible climate policy that ensures Net Zero by 2050. Please show your support by going to Climate Act Now #climateactnow #auspol #environment #crossbench

16.01.2022 It is not acceptable to only keep one ferry in operation on weekends and public holidays. Minimum Two are needed to ensure regular timetable and large tourist demand and maintenance periods. There has been no consultation and no consideration of impact on tourism and Manly economy with proposed reduced operation if only one is kept. Why is NSW Govt buying vessels from China before even consulting the community? Measly compromise is supposed to make up for it? I don’t think so. Go to Good For Manly to support saving Manly ferries.

15.01.2022 As the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called for Australia to be bold and ambitious in its climate targets, I and my crossbench colleagues and chairs of the Parliamentary Friends of Climate Action Helen Haines MP and Rebekha Sharkie MP met with the British High Commissioner, Her Excellency Vicki Treadell. We have much to learn from the UK's leadership on climate action. Let’s make sure Australia has a seat at the table when it comes to joining the Net Zero by 2050 club.... #RaceToZero UK in Australia - British High Commission, Canberra

14.01.2022 There is building pressure this week for the government to take real action on climate change. In response we've heard many of the same old recycled talking poi...nts intended to distract from the government's inaction, and to create the illusion they are doing something. Here is a simple fact: Australia's emissions per capita are some of the highest in the world and they are barely decreasing. 14.01.2022 Very proud to second Helen Haines MP’s Australian Federal Integrity Commission bills. Every community should be requiring their MP to support this. We need to raise the bar on integrity and accountability in Australian politics. You have to question why it is not a priority for the PM and Attorney General?

14.01.2022 The arts sector has been badly affected by COVID-19. I spoke about this in Parliament this week, singling out the wonderful Les Sculptures Refusées that is on now at the Q Station Manly. If you’re looking for weekend plans, this is a great exhibition against the stunning views of the Sydney Harbour. Please watch my speech here

10.01.2022 After introducing the Climate Change Bills on Monday to Parliament I requested the Bills be referred to the Environment and Energy committee and we have just had confirmation that has happened! This is an important step in building consensus and bipartisan support. The approach in the Bill to legislate Net Zero by 2050 is supported by: Australian Medical Association Australian Council of Social Service Australian Council of Trade Unions ... Planning Institute of Australia Property Council, Business Council of Australia Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, and many other leading organisations. My team and I are working hard to put forward climate solutions.

10.01.2022 This week is National NAIDOC week that celebrates history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. My team and I have recently been celebrating the young women who live at Biala Aboriginal Hostel for Girls at Allambie Heights. Biala is a Commonwealth facility that provides accommodation here in Warringah for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander female high school students from regional NSW.... When I visited the hostel in August where they live, it was in need of resources, so we asked the generous community of Warringah to focus their collective resourcefulness to help them. The response was heart-warming. A special thank you to every group who donated and offered their time to show love to the hostel from gardening to offering some bedroom accessories. I'm so proud of Warringah! With the assistance of Manly videographer, Tikky Hes who donated her time, we put together a video of the project which will serve as a beautiful piece of history for the girls and our community. Not everyone could make it to our presentation due to Covid restrictions so please watch the video here:

10.01.2022 Thanks to the Friends Of Freshwater for inviting me to their Community Garden working bee and BBQ today. Wonderful community spirit, resourcefulness and focus on sustainability. It was so lovely to meet you all and see the amazing work you are doing!... The project received a $5000 grant under the Communities Environment Program from my independent grant committee. They have put it to good use by building a shade house to propagate plants. For more information on grants, visit my website www.zalisteggall.com.au/grants or email our Grants Officer [email protected] The garden is a wonderful example of how all of us can make a difference to live more sustainably. 09.01.2022 The Morrison Government’s business-as-usual approach to emissions reduction and hanging on to fossil fuels will see lost investment opportunities reach $43 billion by 2025 alone. There is a global race on to attract international investment and Australia is not in it. We need to legislate Net Zero by 2050. The easiest way to do this: pass the Climate Act when it is introduced to Parliament on 9 November, lock in to law our commitment to Net Zero by 2050 and give the market ...and business confidence with long term policy certainty. #RaceToZero #ClimateActNow #auspol See more

09.01.2022 As we celebrate the NRL and AFL grand finals this weekend, it's also a sad reminder that traditionally this weekend means an increase in domestic and family violence. Alcohol, sport and stress do not necessarily cause family violence, but it can be exacerbated, meaning this is a dangerous weekend for many. Last year NSW recorded a 27.9% increase in family violence police incidents on NRL Grand Final Day, and a 16.3% increase on AFL Grand Final day. I call on both the NRL - ...National Rugby League and AFL to address this and do more prevention and information campaigns. This week I spoke about Domestic Violence and Family Violence as an ongoing national emergency that we urgently need to address. This is a social problem, and we all have a duty to be part of the solution. We must change this. 09.01.2022 UK's Boris Johnson asks PM Scott Morrison to take 'bold action' on climate change, noting that in the UK's experience, bold action has demonstrated that driving economic growth and reducing emissions can go hand in hand. The Climate Change Bill that I am introducing to the Parliament on November 9 is modelled off the UK's Climate Change Act. Show your support at Climate Act Now #auspol #ClimateAction #RacetoZero

08.01.2022 I just asked the Prime Minister in Question Time whether the Government will accept the New Zealand offer to take 150 asylum seekers each year from Manus Island and PNG that has been on the table for several years now. Thank you to Amnesty International Australia, Craig Foster and Sonny Bill Williams for delivering a petition of over 60,000 signatures calling on the Government to accept the offer and end offshore detention. #gameover

07.01.2022 Thank you to the Australian Orthopaedic Association NSW Branch 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting for having me as a guest speaker. As an Olympian, I am glad I have not needed orthopaedic help personally but we need to rely on science and facts to deal with climate. It was fantastic to explain how the Climate Change Bill Climate Act Now inquiry is going and to encourage as many people to put in submissions as possible. We are at a crucial tipping point to get to net zero by 2050. I look forward to more events like these as COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease.

07.01.2022 Warringah is home to so many different businesses offering a range of services to the community. 06.01.2022 Today I joined Sonny Bill Williams, Craig Foster and Parliamentary colleagues to receive an Amnesty International petition of over 60,000 signatories, calling for an end to offshore detention. Currently, there are 290 people remaining in Papua New Guinea and on Manus Island. There is an offer from New Zealand to take up to 150 asylum seekers from PNG and Manus an offer that remains on the table with the re-election of Jacinda Ardern. For those who’ve come across the seas..., We’ve boundless plains to share. With courage, let us all combine To Advance Australia Fair It is time to show our compassion. I strongly urge the Government to take up the New Zealand offer #gameover

05.01.2022 Today we remember the sacrifice of those who have fought and died for our country in all theatres of war. We remember too those that returned, forever changed by what they saw and what they did in the name of freedom and democracy. At 11am let's all take a moment to pause and reflect. As Parliament is sitting this week, I have the opportunity of attending the ceremony at the Australian War Memorial where I am honoured to pay my respects on behalf of the community of Warring...ah. Members of my team will also be attending a number of local services across Warringah to represent our office. Lest we Forget.

04.01.2022 It was a real honour to officially "turn on" the Seabin Project in Manly today, which is an automated bin that collects plastic rubbish floating on the water. This is such an important project to help clean our waterways and oceans. There are now 23 seabins across 5 locations in Sydney that over 12 months will capture: 28 tonnes of marine debris 4.3 billion litres of water filtered for microplastics, plastic fibres, oil, fuel and more. ... 02.01.2022 Being sustainable can start from your wardrobe It was great to meet the co-founders of One P Design at Stockland, which is a sustainable fashion business, using wool, linen, silk and cotton in their designs that are sourced and made in Australia.
