25.01.2022 While we are sure glad some senses of normality are returning, at Zanda we are still following the Government advice on face to face protocols for essential services. Some schools remain cautious to protect their communities about support workers entering the schools. We respect each family and school in their decisions, and continue to provide Telehealth as our primary service at this current time. Please touch base with your therapist to find out more. #zandaspeechandOT #zanda #play #imagination #creativity #fun #playbasedlearining #dirfloortime #floortime #modelling #telehealth #playskills #paediatricoccupationaltherapy #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #paediatricspeechtherapy #pediatricspeechtherapy #parenttips #parentcoaching

25.01.2022 Introducing Siena Siena joined our team recently as one of our brilliant Therapy Assistants. She has a gentle presence and takes time to get to know each child before increasing the level of challenge in play. Her ability to listen and unpack things to parents is a true strength. She always thinks deeply about how to best encourage and interact with a child and their parents. We love that Siena is also in her final year as an Occupational Therapy student, this brings su...ch a richer understanding of child development, psychology and diagnostic challenges to the clients she sees. Seeking to always understand a childs program fully, means she will always be able to support the child and family in the best way. Our dream team would not be complete without her. #zandaspeechandOT #zanda #play #imagination #creativity #fun #playbasedlearining #dirfloortime #floortime #modelling #playskills #paediatricoccupationaltherapy #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #paediatricspeechtherapy #pediatricspeechtherapy #parenttips #parentcoaching #dreamteam

25.01.2022 Introducing Lily This amazing up and coming Occupational Therapist is one of our fabulous Therapy Assistants. She has just completed her final year placement with us at Zanda, and has been on team as a Therapy Assistant since early this year. What a Wonder Woman she is, to be able to meet any client and quickly build rapport, explain interventions to parents, all while being creative in the way she interacts with children. Lily is excellent with both our older and young...er children, and always puts parents at ease. She is highly capable and often provides our therapy team with ideas and knowledge to support the service we all deliver to our Zanda families. 24.01.2022 Speech tip Balance questions with comments when playing alongside a child. Questions are a form of testing. But comments will help to build your childs vocabulary. ... Instead of asking where is your train going? You could model: This is a green train The carriage is yellow Under the bridge we go So many trees Look at the conductor Where will the train go next? This teaches verbs, adjectives and nouns. 20.01.2022 Open ended play is a beautiful skill to develop with children from a very young age. Toys that can be used in several ways help to build imagination and creativity. When you present your child with a toy for the first time, sit with them and creat your own scene and dialogue while they explore beside you, then slowly fade out to allow them time to design and create for themselves. Every now and then I like to slide back in to add or show a new way to use the toys at hand. A...dding an upturned open book can create a bridge. Or a stack of blocks over train tracks could be a crumbled bridge that a triggers a recuse operation. #zandaspeechandOT #zanda #play #imagination #creativity #fun #playbasedlearining #dirfloortime #floortime #modelling #playskills #paediatricoccupationaltherapy #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #paediatricspeechtherapy #pediatricspeechtherapy #parenttips #parentcoaching See more

19.01.2022 Therapy Assistants Our therapy assistant program is one unique to Zanda Speech and Occupational Therapy. Carefully tailored individualised therapy programs that support the childs therapy goals are delivered with fun and care by our skilled Therapy assistants. This model allows funds to be stretched further than with Speech or OT alone, and supports a childs learning in their environment (home or child care/ kinder/ school). Its a unique way to support families with mul...tiple children, and to allow parents to have essential 1:1 time without their other family members. Programs are reviewed every 4-6 weeks depending on progress by the whole team involved. 19.01.2022 Scissor Skills Taking the time to understand the complexity of using scissors is key to knowing how to progress your little one. - they need to be able to have separation of the hand muscles working (thumb and fingers working in opposite movements). -the action of supination needs to be mastered (rotating wrists like turning a door handle). - cutting straight short snips is the first way to introduce cutting. ... - cutting long straight lines is next. - changing directions on a straight line. - cutting along a wavy line. - finally, cutting complex shapes. #zandaspeechandOT #zanda #play #imagination #creativity #fun #playbasedlearining #dirfloortime #floortime #modelling #playskills #paediatricoccupationaltherapy #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #paediatricspeechtherapy #pediatricspeechtherapy #parenttips #parentcoaching See more

19.01.2022 Rainbow Rice This week one of our therapy assistants gave rainbow rice try for our sensory materials and it was such a success The bonus is, it is so so easy to make!! It will keep your kids busy for hours. Rice is another great sensory play activity that we recommend to all our families at Zanda. It is easy to put together, cheap and safe for kids to play with. Scroll down to see the recipe our rainbow rice. Add some colour and extra fun to your rice sensory play sess...ions. Rainbow rice: * 1 cup per colour of uncooked rice * 1 teaspoon of water per colour * 15 drops or so of food colouring(s) of choice * Resealable bags for mixing each colour Add in your rice, water and food colouring into a bag and then mix until the rice is completely coated. Place the rice out on a piece of baking sheet, or paper towel and allow to dry (this takes about 1 hour). Do this for each colour you choose. Then its sensory play time! Wed like to see what you get up to! Share your sensory play activities on instagram. 18.01.2022 Introducing Morgan As one of our fabulous Therapy Assistants, Morgan is also studying Speech Parhology, which gives her extra knowledge to support her clients. Morgan is relatively new to our dream team, but she instantly connected with everyone: so it feels like shes always been part of the Zanda family! That is exactly the experience you will have with Morgan within the first session. She has the gift of connection, and can even coax the most unwilling child out of hi...ding to interact and develop their play skills. She has wisdom beyond her years, and the maturity she carries herself with puts parents at ease. An organisational queen, Morgan can find ways to be more efficient and therefore more fun. You may have heard her voice (and confused it for Zara) on the main phone line: shes been supporting our ever busy director Zara with administration support. 16.01.2022 Avalanche Fruit Stand: the first game I bought to use in therapy, and it has so many skills it works on, all while being FUN! - turn taking - sharing - fine motor skills - pincer grip strength... - colour recognition - one to one correspondence - shoulder stability - visual memory - waiting - impulse control I could go on and on and on! I usually start using this game with 2.5-3year olds (depending on cognition and physical abilities), and still play it with teens that are doing sit up on a peanut ball to build core strength at the same time. #zandaspeechandOT #zanda #play #imagination #creativity #fun #playbasedlearining #dirfloortime #floortime #modelling #playskills #paediatricoccupationaltherapy #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #paediatricspeechtherapy #pediatricspeechtherapy #parenttips #parentcoaching #toys #games #learnthroughplay See more

13.01.2022 To start to use phrases, children need a variety of words in their vocabulary (not just nouns!) These include: Social words (such as bye-bye, hi) Requesting words (such as please, more, again) Verbs/action words (such as go, eat, sleep, drink, jump, open, push) Early pronouns (such as me, mine, my, I, you)... Prepositions/location words (such as in, out, off, on, up, down, here, there) Negation (such as no and then later contractions including dont, cant) Adjectives & adverbs/descriptive words (such as big, hot, fast, yucky) Be sure you are introducing and teaching words from these different categories so that your child has broad vocabulary base in order to make phrases. #zandaspeechandOT #zanda #play #imagination #creativity #fun #playbasedlearining #dirfloortime #floortime #modelling #playskills #paediatricoccupationaltherapy #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #paediatricspeechtherapy #pediatricspeechtherapy #parenttips #parentcoaching See more

09.01.2022 Well the last instalment of home educating ended last week for those in Victoria, Australia. The remainder of children that have limped over the line (this is probably more the weary parents NOT cut out for homeschool) of home learning are being dropped off this morning. Huge pat on the back to parents. Go get an Irish coffee this morning after drop off to celebrate, in fact why not have a champagne breakfast with a couple of other parents??... There are still a number of families choosing to self isolate due to illness and compromised immune systems in the immediate family. Lets be gentle in allowing those around us to make choices right for their circumstances. For those children with spiked anxiety today, pop a little photo in their pocket of your family, or give them a matching heart cut out or matching little trinket, so you will always remain connected throughout the day. Its huge for little ones to go from having family all around them for 12 weeks, to then being allowed back to school again. #zandaspeechandOT #zanda #play #imagination #creativity #fun #playbasedlearining #dirfloortime #floortime #modelling #playskills #paediatricoccupationaltherapy #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #paediatricspeechtherapy #pediatricspeechtherapy #parenttips #parentcoaching #backtoschool #isobegone #celebrate
