Tetsuhiro Hokama. Artista marcial Japonés. 1944-
20.01.2022 There’s no real evidence that what is taught in most martial art and defensive tactics classes works consistently in a truly sudden violent confrontation. This... statement offends some. It shouldn't. It’s an observation based on studying real events (evidence). Acknowledging this will make you safer. Remember, I've been studying violence, fear, and aggression for over four decades and I’ve always been mystified by two evidence-based observations: 1. During real altercations, trained people rarely displayed their training, the technique went out of the window. 2. Untrained people experienced and survived real violence more frequently than trained people. I simplified this research to one idea: Your body is a human weapon system. This premise is rooted in the idea that we all know how to defend ourselves (if pushed). Some disagree with this because they're unconsciously thinking about technical martial arts vs. instinctive counter-violence. Trust me they are different. For others, this 'performance fear' is rooted in the idea that we need to study martial arts to be able to survive violence. Of course, this adds more doubt, hesitation, and fear. We've confused the act of self-protection with the study of martial arts, combat sports, RBSD, etc. They are very different and this confuses many. Self-defense can and should be taught like first-aid. In a day. Yes, a day. Disagree? Perhaps you’re confusing learning a martial art with learning pure self-defense? Here’s an example: You can take a first-aid course and learn life-saving skills in 4-6 hours. But that doesn't make you a doctor (black belt). Please reflect on this metaphor. Principles of situational awareness, fear management, verbal de-escalation, and primal gross motor movement can be taught very quickly and they will change your survival quotient. Again, this isn't a condemnation of anyone's style or system. This is about safety. Yours, mine, our family, and our community. If the goal is safety, if the focus is ‘personal defense’ then remember this: "Be careful what you practice, you may get really good at the wrong thing. Coach Info.Tonyblauer.Com

17.01.2022 The hammerfist strike (tettsui-uchi ) has the advantage of being easily applied even by those with little training to strike with bare hands, as there's a l...esser chance of injury to the practitioner's wrist than that of the attack with direct fist (choku-zuki ). The impact on the side of the jaw transfers energy via the temporomandibular joint to the brain, leading to a considerable possibility of knockout of the opponent. The pull applied simultaneously to one of the opponent's arms (hikite ) facilitates the placement of the attack and allows for an additional elbow wrench in case of need, among other possibilities. Depending on the conditions prior to this maneuver, it is possible to alternatively use the elbow or even the forearm to strike the opponent, instead of the hammerfist. Afterwards, if necessary, there is still the possibility of opening the fingers to attack the eyes, or to simply take the opponent's blocking arm, manipulating it with another control method. This maneuver is present in a large amount of kata, from those considered as "for beginners" to those considered as "advanced", and in several different lineages/styles. The sophistication and technical efficiency of karate kata applications is still little known to the general public, but when mastered, it is proof of the genius of the material that was left to us by the masters of past generations, and a source of pride for us practitioners who still we carry this valuable legacy. 13.01.2022 I wanted to offer you a guideline to differentiate between the martial art side and the competition side of karate. I know you know all that and there have been plenty of interpretations and attempts to categorize karate in the West, but I thought this is concise with the most important points and not overanalyzed. As can be seen from the table, within the definition of the creator, karate as a competition is almost 100% opposite to karate as a martial art.In addition: The re...lation between military arts (bujutsu), physical education (taiiku), and sport (kygi). You must know the definition of each of the three, the relation between the three, and you must not get them confused.

02.01.2022 Direct confrontation is foolish. Then, it's bigger, faster, stronger. Angles, offline, blending, tension only at impact, relax, technique and timing prevail. Hard when needed (go), soft (ju), blending (ai).
